Each area gets visited twice per year by a Jersey SA classifier. 3 Young bulls The Breed Improvement Committee of Jersey SA chooses out of every BLUP analyses the top local bred bulls out of the births submitted for that specific period. These bulls are then Genomically tested by jersey SA, and the shortlist of bull are supplied to all semen companies should they be interested in obtaining one of these bulls. Parentage verification The Animal Improvement Act of South Africa obligates these tests once a year and it is also a standard method of studbook organizations to prove the accuracy of their records, and not because the word of the breeders is not trusted. Herds nominated will receive a letter from SA Studbook stating the nominated 5 animals required for testing as well as 2 alternatives. We ask that all breeders nominated help us finalizing the process as quickly as possible. 5 Jersey SA Contact Details: Tel: Fax: office: technical: BLUP COSTS ARC HERDS With SA Studbook entering their new financial year, the fees for the BLUP analysis being done 3 times a year for Jersey SA, have been adapted. Herds registered at Logix Milk, already has their fee for individual BLUP analyses on their herds, added to their milk recording fee. ARC herds that would like to have an individual analysis done can do so at a calculated fee. This fee has been adapted with the new budget year. Costs per animal will be R27-50 per animal, and not the fee as previously paid per analyses. The reasoning behind this that the animals included in the analyses to insure the stability of the analyses, are being used with every analysis despite the choice of the breeder to have an analysis done or not.
