3 SWVHJA DIVISION SPECIFICATIONS PRE-BEGINNER EQUITATION - Open to junior and amateur riders in their first year of showing over fences less than 2 in height. Riders are eligible for one horse show year and may not enter divisions with fence heights of 2 or above. This division will not count against rider s one year eligibility for the Beginner Equitation division. To be judged on rider s position and control. Division may be combined with the Beginner Equitation division at Management s discretion if entries warrant. Fence height 18. No oxers permitted. BEGINNER EQUITATION Open to junior and amateur riders in their first year of showing over fences 2 in height. No oxers permitted. Riders are eligible for one horse show year and may not enter divisions with fence heights exceeding 2. This division will not count against rider s 2 year eligibility for the Intermediate Hunter division. To be judged on rider s position and control. Division may be split between juniors and adults at the discretion of show management. JUNIOR EQUITATION ON THE FLAT Open to riders who have reached their 15th birthday by December 1st of the calendar year, but not reached their 18th birthday as of December 1st of the calendar year. To be shown at a walk, trot, and canter both ways of the ring and judged on position, control, and guidance. USEF tests 1-19 may be used, excluding those requiring work over fences. Three entries are necessary to fill this class. Riders need not be members of SWVHJA to compete. If there are insufficient entries, this class may be combined with the Junior Equitation on the Flat 14 & under and/or the Adult Equitation on the flat. JUNIOR EQUITATION ON THE FLAT 14 & Under - Open to riders who have not reached their 15th birthday by December 1st of the calendar year. To be shown at a walk, trot, and canter both ways of the ring and judged on position, control, and guidance. USEF tests 1-19 may be used, excluding those requiring work over fences. Three entries are necessary to fill this class. Riders need not be members of SWVHJA to compete. JUMPER DIVISIONS PUDDLE JUMPERS - Open to horses or ponies ridden by amateurs or professional exhibitors. 0.70m= Fences 2 3 in height. TRAINING JUMPERS - Open to horses or ponies ridden by amateurs or professional exhibitors. 0.80m= Fences 2 7 in height. LOW JUMPERS - Open to horses or ponies ridden by amateurs or professional exhibitors. 0.85m= Fences 2 9 in height. CHILDREN S/ADULT JUMPER Open to horses or ponies ridden by a junior or adult amateur exhibitor. Fences.95 to 1.05 meters. USEF Tables I IV may be used. LEVEL 2 JUMPER Fences meters. To be shown over a course of fences not to exceed 3 that must include two changes of direction, a combination and at least three oxers. A minimum of six riders, if available, must be called back to work on the flat. Martingales may not be used in the flat phase. Each phase to count 50 percent. Same horse must be used for both phases. To qualify for the finals, a rider must accumulate 20 points during the show year. Four entries are required to fill the class with a minimum of three to complete the class. If there are fewer than four entries, this class can be combined with the Adult Medal. SWVHJA Hunter Seat Medal contestants may compete throughout the year. The top twenty (20) point earners with a minimum of 10 points will be invited to compete in the Hunter Seat Medal Finals. SWVHJA ADULT MEDAL - Same specs as for the SWVHJA Hunter Seat Medal Class, except open to amateur riders 18 years of age and older. Ponies may be ridden by adults, but may not be shown in the Pony Hunter division at the same horse show. If there are fewer than four entries, this class can be combined with the Hunter Seat Medal. SWVHJA Adult Medal contestants may compete throughout the year. The top twenty (20) point earners with a minimum of 10 points will be invited to compete in the Adult Medal Finals. INTERMEDIATE HUNTER - Open to anyone in their first or second year of showing, on horses or ponies, excluding the Beginner Equitation division. Fences 2 3. Once a rider shows over fences 2 6 or higher, they are no longer eligible for the Intermediate Hunter division in subsequent years. To be judged on performance, manners and way of going. The rider may not jump higher than 2 6 at the same horse show. CHILDREN S HUNTER - Open to juniors mounted on horses. To be judged on performance, manners and way of going. Fences 3. Management may combine this division with the Adult Amateur Hunter division if there are fewer than 3 entries. ADULT AMATEUR HUNTER - Open to adult amateur riders mounted on horses or ponies. To be judged on performance, manners and way of going. Ponies shown by an adult may not be shown in the Pony Hunter division at the same horse show. Fences 3. Management may combine this division with the Children s Hunter division if there are fewer than 3 entries. SPECIAL ADULT HUNTER - Open to Adult Amateur riders mounted on horses or ponies. Fences to be 2 6 or 2 9. Both heights must be offered and judged together. Related distances between two jumps should be no less than 60 (4 strides). Judged on performance, manners and way of going. Horse/rider combination cannot compete over fences higher than 2 9 at the same horse show. Ponies shown by an adult may not be shown in the pony hunter division at the same horse show. The Special Adult Hunter division and the Special Children s Hunter division may be combined if there are fewer than 3 in either section. SPECIAL CHILDREN S HUNTER - Same specs as the Special Adult Hunter, except open to junior riders. GREEN HUNTER - Open to horses in their first or second year of showing over fences at 2 6 or higher. To be eligible for green hunter status, horses may have only shown over fences in three shows or less ar 2 3 or lower the previous year. Both heights must be offer and will be judged together. HOPEFUL HUNTER Open to ponies and horses. Fences to be 2 3. ADULT HUNTER PLEASURE HORSE - Open to horses shown with hunter tack on the flat ridden by an Adult. Classes to be offered are: Walk/Go As You Please, Walk/Trot, and Walk/Trot/Canter. No Division Specifications continued on page 14. 4

5 EQUINE ACTIVITY RELEASE, WAIVER, ASSUMPTION OF ALL RISKS AND INDEMNIFICATION AGREEMENT (This is a legally binding document - read carefully) The undersigned participant desires to engage in equine activities at or through facilities owned and operated or controlled by Bridgewater College ( College ) and, in consideration of being permitted to engage in such activities, enters into this agreement ( Agreement ). The undersigned, as participant or parent(s) or guardian(s) of participant, knowingly and voluntarily acknowledges without reservation: 1. That equine activities are athletic activities that are intrinsically dangerous and pose potentially serious risk of injury or death to participants in equine activities. 2. That there are intrinsic dangers or conditions that are an integral part of equine activities, including but not limited specifically to: (i) the propensity of equines to behave in ways, including unpredictable ways, that may result in serious injury, harm, or death to persons on or around them; (ii) the unpredictability of an equine s reaction to such things as sounds, noise, sudden movement, other movement, and familiar or unfamiliar objects, persons, or other animals or other stimuli, including weather conditions or changes; (iii) certain hazards such as surface and subsurface and atmospheric conditions; (iv) proximity, interaction or collisions with other animals or objects; and (v) the potential of a participant or attendee or some other person acting in a negligent or other manner that may occasion or contribute to injury to equine or to the participant or others, such as failing to maintain control over the equine or not acting within the participant s ability (collectively, Intrinsic Dangers of Equine Activities ). 3. That participants in equine activities may be seriously injured or killed as a result of their own negligence, the negligence of others, through no fault of participant or anyone else, or as a result of the Intrinsic Dangers of Equine Activities. To the fullest extent permitted by law, in consideration of Bridgewater College (the College ) allowing participant to participate in equine activities at or through facilities owned or operated or controlled by the College, the undersigned, as participant or

I assume all of the foregoing risk and any othe risk inherent in equine activities and accept those risks and any other potential risk of recreational activities, and I agree and understand that SWVHJA, its board of directors and BC shall have no responsibility whatsoever to make any such examination or inspection. I further assume all risk, and agree to hold harmless the SWVHJA, its board of directors, and BC, its employees, representatives or agents, or on the part of any other person. Hereby KNOWINGLY AND VOLUNTARILY acknowledges and assumes all of the foregoing risks and any other risks inherent in equine activities and participation in equine activities, and accepts complete responsibility for deciding to make and making any and all examinations or inspections or inquiries relating to those risks and any other potential risks of equine activities, and agrees and understands that the College shall have NO RESPONSIBILITY whatsoever to make any such examination or inspection or inquiry. 3. Hereby KNOWLINGLY AND VOLUNTARILY agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the College, its officers, employees, agents, contractors, representatives, volunteers and insurers from and against all of the foregoing claims and any and all loss, damage, injury, or death to person or property by whatever cause including but not limited to any act or omission, negligent or otherwise, on the part of the College, its officers, employees, agents, representatives or volunteers, or on the part of any other person arising from or related to participation in equine activities. ENTRIES Six ribbons awarded in each class. Championship and Reserve ribbons in all divisions. Ribbons can be picked up at the announcers stand. All riders must sign a Bridgewater College Equine Release/Waiver before riding on Bridgewater College property. All riders must wear an ASTM/SEI-approved hard hat while mounted. It is the responsibility of the rider, or the parent, guardian or trainer of the exhibitor, to see to it that the headgear worn complies with appropriate safety standards for protective headgear intended for equestrian use, and is properly fitted and in good condition. A negative Coggins within 12 months of the show date is required before numbers will be issued. Early entries should be mailed to Diane Hinch. All pre-entries must be received by Diane Hinch at 44 Windy Grove Lane, Fishersville, VA GROUNDS Schooling will be permitted on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017 from 5-7:30 p.m. Please call to notify Bridgewater College Equestrian Center at (540) if you plan to school at that time. Extreme care must be taken during schooling sessions. Horses that school and do not show will be charged a $25 schooling fee. All riders must sign a BCEC waiver prior to schooling. Refreshments will be available on the show grounds. An EMT or other medical personnel will be on the show grounds on the day of competition. Neither Bridgewater College, nor its employees, will be held responsible for any accident or loss that may occur to horse, rider or guest. Limited permanent box stall stabling with permanent doors is available at a cost of $35 per stall per night. Please call Shannon Bower (845) for reservations by the Thursday before the horse show. 14 over fences classes will count toward this division. (Shows offering a Pleasure Hunter division with over fences classes may offer this division as a separate division.) It is acceptable for SWVHJA Horse Shows to combine the Adult Hunter Pleasure and the Junior Pleasure Hunter Divisions, however, it is the show secretary s responsibility to indicate on the results which is the Adult rider and which is the junior rider. If entries warrant, the Hunter Pleasure Pony division may be combined with the Junior Hunter Pleasure Division and the Adult Hunter Pleasure Horse division. To be judged on manners, suitability, and way of going. For year end points to accrue, three entries must enter and compete in all three classes of the division. JUNIOR HUNTER PLEASURE HORSE - Same specs as the Adult Hunter Pleasure Horse except open to junior riders. HUNTER PLEASURE PONY - Open to ponies shown with hunter tack on the flat ridden by a junior. Classes to be offered are: Walk/Go As You Please, Walk/Trot, and Walk/Trot/Canter. No over fences classes will count toward this division. (Shows offering a Pleasure Hunter division with over fences classes may offer this division as a separate division.) If entries warrant, the Hunter Pleasure Pony division may be combined with the Junior Hunter Pleasure Horse division and Adult Hunter Pleasure Horse division. OAK RIDGE MEDAL - Open to juniors and amateurs. Over fences phase will consist of a USETtype equitation, Amateur-Owner/Junior Jumper course of at least ten fences up to 3 3 (Level 2) in height with spreads to four feet. The course must include a triple combination or two double combinations. Additional spread fences are required elsewhere on the course and an obstacle with a liverpool may be used (will be used in the Finals). A time allowed may be used in the first round, based upon a speed of 345 yards per minute (will be used in the Finals). To be judged on style and execution. Faults incurred will be taken into consideration in the judge s evaluation of the rider. In the flat phase, competitors will show as a group at the working walk; the working trot sitting, the working trot rising, the working trot showing a lengthening of stride; the working canter, and the working canter showing a lengthening of stride. Riders shall be required to show the working canter on the counter lead for at least one full revolution of the arena in both directions, but not more than 12 riders will be required to counter canter at one time (except at the Finals when appropriate). Judges may require additional tests (USEF tests 1-19). To be judged on the rider s position and seat and the correctness and effectiveness of the aids; flat phase to count 50%. At least the top ten riders from the flat phase will be called back for the second phase; jump order to be chosen by the judge; over fences phase to count 50%. Restrictions: no martingales of any kind are permitted in the flat phase. Only running martingales used in the conventional manner (properly fitted) are permitted in the over fences phase. Change of bridle is permitted between phases. Gags and hackamores are allowed except in the flat phase. Competitors must use the same horse in both phases. Correct attire required. Flat phase must be run first. Top ten riders on the flat must show over fences. Three riders must complete the course in order to fill the class. Judge may require additional tests following the jumping phase. Points in regular Oak Ridge Medal classes will be awarded per the following schedule: 1-10 pts., 2-6 pts., 3-4 pts., 4-2 pts., 5-1 pt., 6-.5 pt. Top fifteen* cumulative point earners will be invited to compete in the finals. RANDOLPH COLLEGE MEDAL Height of fences 2 6. Open to junior and adult amateur riders who have not qualified for the SWVHJA Hunter Seat Medal Finals, SWVHJA Adult Medal Finals, or Oakridge Medal Finals during the 2010 or 2011 show year. Once a rider has accumulated 10 points in either the SWVHJA Hunter Seat Medal or SWVHJA Adult Medal they will no longer be eligible to compete in the Randolph College Medal for the remainder of the show year and will also become ineligible for the Randolph Medal Finals in October. Previous winners of the SWVHJA Hunter Seat Medal, SWVHJA Adult Medal, or Oak Ridge Medal are prohibited from competing in the Randolph College Medal. Qualifiers for the SWVHJA Pony Medal are still eligible in the Randolph College Medal class and Finals. Exhibitors may not cross enter in the Randolph College Medal AND SWVHJA Hunter Seat Medal/Adult Medal at the same horse show. The Randolph College Medal is to consist 14

15 of two phases, each counting for 50% of total score. The first phase shall be shown over a course of not less than eight fences at 2 6. Course must contain two changes of direction after the first fence and will not contain a one stride. The second phase is to be shown on the flat at a walk, trot, and canter both directions of the ring. The Randolph College Medal must have four entries (with at least three entries completing the over fences phase) to count for points. Judges may choose USEF tests The same horse must be used for both phases. Standing martingales are permitted in the flat phase. SMALL/MEDIUM PONY HUNTER - Open to ponies ridden by juniors. Ponies shown in this division may not be shown by an adult in any recognized division at the same horse show. Judged on performance, manners, and way of going. Small ponies (not to exceed 12.2h) to jump 2, medium ponies (over 12.2h - not to exceed 13.2h) to jump 2 3. Divisions must be offered split, but if there are not three ponies in either the Small/Medium or Large Pony divisions, the divisions must be combined. Lines less than 72 must be set on appropriate distances. LARGE PONY HUNTER - Open to ponies ridden by juniors. Ponies shown in this division may not be shown by an adult in any recognized division at the same horse show. Judged on performance, manners, and way of going. Large ponies (over 13.2h - not to exceed 14.2h) to jump 2 6. Divisions must be offered split, but if there are not three ponies in either the Small/Medium or Large Pony divisions, the divisions must be combined.
