Sweet Briar College, its staff, officials or SWVHJA will not be held responsible for any accident or loss which may occur to any exhibitor, spectator, groom or animal at the show. All exhibitors must wear ASTM-approved head gear with the chin strap fastened at all times when mounted on the show grounds. Concessions will be provided on the show grounds. All schooling is at your own risk. All dogs must be on leashes while on the show grounds. SCHOOLING Sweet Briar College Medal Open to juniors and amateurs. To be shown over a course of no less than six jumps set at 2 9. Course must include two changes of direction, and may contain an in and out. The judge will then have the option of testing the top four riders. Tests 1-10 may be used. The same horse must be used in both phases. Three competitors must complete the course for points to count. Riders may not have shown in a 3 6 or higher equitation medal class, and may not jump higher than 2 9 at the same show. This class may be combined with other classes with similar specifications. This class is not recognized or sanctioned by SWVHJA. Finals will be held at the SWVHJA Annual Horse Show. To qualify for the 2018 finals, a rider must have competed in at least one SBC Medal class prior to the finals. Oak Ridge Medal Open to junior and adult amateurs. Over fences phase will consist of a USETtype equitation and AO/JR jumper course of at least ten fences at 3 to 3 3 with spreads up to 4. Flat phase counts for 50% and must be run first. No martingales of any kind are permitted in the flat phase. Top ten riders from the flat phase will be called back for the over the fences phase; jump order to be chosen by the judge. Judge may require additional tests from USET tests Minimum of 3 to fill class. 92nd Annual Horse Show Trophies The Fayette-Brown Challenge Trophy Awarded to the Sweet Briar rider who has demonstrated the best horsemanship and sportsmanship throughout the show. To be selected by a panel of judges that will include the horse show judge. Lt. Hatchell Trophy Awarded to the winner of the designated Working Hunter over fences class which will have a special course with emphasis on brilliance and handiness that you would find in the hunting field. Hunting attire requested, but not required. Open Hunter Perpetual Trophy In memory of Peggy Grazino, Class of Donated by Abby Patterson Shultis. Awarded to the Champion of the Open Hunter Division. Kiev s Twilight Perpetual Trophy Awarded to Green Horse or Pony (as defined by SWVHJA rules) with the most points in the Open Hunter Division. Exhibitors must notify the show secretary of their eligibility for this award prior to the beginning of the show. Harriet Howell Rogers Challenge Trophy Awarded to the Champion of the Adult Hunter Division J.M.B Lewis Perpetual Trophy Awarded to the Champion of the Working Hunter Division. Phillip Stone Perpetual Trophy Awarded to the Special Adult Hunter Champion in appreciation of President Phillip Stone, and all he did to insure that Sweet Briar College will endure in perpetuity. Ladino Memorial Trophy Awarded to the Junior/Amateur equitation Champion. In memory of SBC s Ladino a remarkable horse who taught many students. All riders must sign a waiver or entry form before schooling or riding on the grounds. All schooling is at your own risk. The Ring will be open for schooling from 7-8 AM the day of the show. The day prior to the show, schooling will be allowed from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. 3 HUNTER DIVISIONS All Hunter Classes are judged on performance, manners, way of going, and soundness. Unjudged Warm Up An unjudged warm up round to be ridden prior to your judged class. Only one round may be ridden in each section. Open Hunter Open to all riders mounted on horses or ponies. Unrecognized division. Fences offered at 2 3, 2 6 & 3 heights. SWVHJA Working Hunter Open to horses. Judged on performance, manners, and way of going. Fence heights offered at 3 3 & 3 6 SWVHJA Adult Hunter Open to adult amateurs mounted on horses or ponies. To be judged on performance, manners, and way of going. Fences to be 3 SWVHJA Children s Hunter Open to juniors mounted on horses. To be judged on performance, manners, and way of going. Fences to be 3 SWVHJA Special Adult and Children s Hunter Open to horses or ponies shown by amateurs. Horse and rider combination cannot compete over fences higher than 2 9 at the same show. Fences 2 6 and 2 9 SWVHJA Adult Hunter Pleasure Horse Open to horses shown with hunter tack on the flat ridden by an adult or Junior. Classes to be offered are Walk/Go As you Please, Walk/Trot and Walk/ Trot/Canter. No over fences classes will count toward this division. It is accepta-ble for SWVHJA Horse shows to combine the Adult Hunter Pleasure and the Junior Pleasure Hunter divisions, however, it is the show secretary s responsibility to indicate on the results which is the adult rider and which is the junior rider. If entries warrant, the Hunter Pleasure pony divi-sion may be combined with the junior hunter pleasure division and the adult hunter pleasure horses division. To be judged on manners, suitability, and way of going. For year end points to accrue, three entries must enter and compete in all three classes of the division. SWVHJA Junior Hunter Pleasure Horse Same specs as the Adult Hunter Pleasure Horse except open to Junior riders. SWVHJA Hunter Pleasure Pony Open to ponies shown with hunter tack on the flat ridden by a Junior. Classes to be offered are: Walk/Go As you Please, Walk/Trot and Walk/Trot/Canter. No over fences classes will count toward this division. If entries warrant, the hunter pleasure pony division may be combined with the junior hunter pleasure hunter horse division and adult hunter pleasure hunter division. EQUITATION DIVISION Junior & Amateur Equitation Division - Open to riders and horses/ponies that have not competed over fences 2 11 or higher in any competition. EQUITATION CLASSES SWVHJA Adult Equitation on the Flat Open to amateurs 18 years of age and older. To be shown at a walk, trot, and canter both ways of the ring. Judged on position, control, and guidance. USEF tests 1-19 may be used, excluding those requiring work over fences. Three entries are necessary to fill this class. Riders need not be members of SWVHJA to compete. If there are insufficient entries, this class may be combined with the Junior Equitation on the Flat. SWVHJA Junior Equitation on the Flat Open to junior riders who have not reached their 18th birthday as of December 1st. To be shown at a walk, trot, and canter both ways of the ring. Judged on position, control, and guidance. USEF tests 1-19 may be used. Three entries are necessary to fill this class. Riders need not be members of SWVHJA to compete. If there are insufficient entries, this class may be combined with the Adult Equitation on the Flat. Will be split by age(15-17 & 14 and Under). Riders must stay within their age group. SWVHJA Hunter Seat Medal Class Open to riders who have not reached their 18 th birthday as of Dec. 1 st of the calendar year. To be shown over a course of fences not to exceed 3 that must include two changes of direction, a combination and at least three oxers. A minimum of six riders, if available, must be called back to work on the flat. Martingales may not be used in the flat phase. Each phase will count 50%. Same horse must be used for both phases. To qualify for the finals, a rider must accumulate 20 points. Four entries are required to fill the class with a minimum of three to complete the class. If there are fewer than four entries, this class can be combined with the Adult Medal. SWVHJA Hunter Seat Medal contestants may compete throughout the year. The top twenty (20) point earners, with a minimum of 10 points, will be invited to compete in the Hunter Seat Medal Finals. Riders must be a member of SWVHJA. SWVHJA Adult Medal Class Same specs as the SWVHJA Hunter Seat Medal Class except open to amateur riders 18 years of age and older. Ponies may be ridden by adults, but may not be shown in the Pony Hunter Division at the same horse show. If there are fewer than four entries, this class can be com-bined with the Hunter Seat Medal. SWVHJA Adult Medal contestants may compete throughout the year. The top twenty (20) point earners, with a minimum of 10 points, will be invited to compete in the Adult Medal Finals. Riders must be a member of SWVHJA. Entries: Six ribbons will be awarded in each class. Championship and Reserve Championship ribbons will be awarded in each hunter division. Ribbons can be picked up at the announcer s stand. Three entries, unless otherwise stated, are necessary to fill a class. Entry forms must be filled out completely, including all classes or divisions entered, signatures and organization or membership numbers before numbers can be issued. A negative Coggins within 12 months and proof of vaccinations within 6 months of the show is required. A copy of the coggins test and SBC health requirement form must be given to the secretary upon arrival. AN OPEN CHECK IS REQUIRED BEFORE NUMBERS CAN BE PICKED UP. Pre-Entry - Must be entered by 3PM the Friday before the show. Entries received after 3PM the Friday before the show will be charged a $10 office fee. No phone entries. Fees: $20.00 per Un-Judged Warm-up $16.00 per Hunter Class and Equitation Flat Class $45.00 per Hunter Division with 2 o/f & undersaddle $20.00 per Eq./Medal: SWVHJA or SBC $ Non-Showing Horse Fee Office Fee - $10.00 (Applied to entries received after 3PM Friday) Returned Check fee $30.00 Stalls: Cost is $40.00 per night / $30.00 per day. Initial bedding is provided (A limited number available and reservation required.) Directions: From Charlottesville On Route 29S, take the Madison Heights/Sweet Briar College exit. Go two miles past the college entrance. Turn right just before the Best Bet/Citgo service station onto Rt. 663/Smokey Hollow Rd. Go about one mile, bearing right at the fork. At the bottom of a fairly steep hill you will see a sign for the Harriet Rogers Rid-ing Center. Turn right. From Lynchburg - On Route 29N Business go about ten miles past the James River to Faulconerville. After the Excel Station (on right), get in the left lane. Turn left at the Best Bet/Citgo station, driving across Route 29S onto Route 663/Smokey Hollow Road. Go about one mile, bearing right at the fork. At the bottom of a fairly steep hill you will see a sign for the Harriet Rogers Riding Center. Turn right. From South of Lynchburg - On Route 29 N just past the Lynchburg airport, exit onto 460 East towards Appomattox. Take exit for 29 N Bypass (Charlottesville/Amherst). Exit at Route 29 Business/Amherst/Sweet Briar College. At the end of the exit turn left to go toward Sweet Briar College/Madison Heights. Go two miles past the college entrance. Turn right just before the Best Bet/Citgo service station onto Rt. 663/Smokey Hollow Rd. Go about one mile, bearing right at the fork. At the bottom of a fairly steep hill you will see a sign for the Harriet Rogers Riding Center. Turn right. Parking: 1) Please watch for and follow parking signs. 2) Large trailers\horse vans may turn around in the parking area behind the indoor arena. 3) Large trailers and horse vans may park on the East side of the Riding Center or in the parking lot behind the indoor arena. 4) To keep the road clear, parking is restricted to the south side of the road. which is the right side of the road as you enter the facility.
