2 2 DMSC SHORT SHOTS 2017 Dues: We will begin accepng 2017 dues on Oct 1st. DMSC does not send out bills for annual dues. Be sure to address the payment to the club PO Box. Chili-off: The October meeng will feature the annual Chili-off contest. Contact Ted Hildabrand if you would like to submit your chili recipe for the contest: Volunteers Needed: We are sll in need of a few volunteers to help with mowing. The goal is to have 2 crews so each crew only has to mow every other week. We generally mow on Monday mornings, weather permi0ng. Lost and Found: A set of keys which appear to belong to a gun lock or gun case were found on the trap range. Contact Marc Burnes to claim. Elec"on of Directors: The terms of 5 si0ng Directors expire at the end of These Directors were nominated for reelecon by the nominang commi7ee. See insert for details. Ladies Day: Another Ladies Day at the range has been scheduled for October 30. See insert for details. Mt Lebanon Rifle Team Fundraiser: The Mt. Lebo Rifle team is holding a trap shoong event on Sunday, Sept 25 starng at 9am. The cost is $25 and shotshells will be provided. Your cancelled check or your hand receipt for cash will be your proof of payment. Include your address on your check so we can update our database for notifying you on newsletter postings and special alerts. If you need a club affiliation identification card for purchasing Civilian Marksmanship Program material from Camp Perry, come to a membership meeting to pick one up from Ell Vines. Sept This Old Gun: Ted Hildabrand will present a Winchester model 61 slide-acon rifle. New Steel Targets: A new plate rack is being constructed on the Marsico range. DO NOT shoot any steel targets with armor piercing or steel core ammo as it will destroy the targets.

3 3 Too Much for Too Few We have over 1200 members in the club. There is a small very acve corps of members that contribute significantly to the operaon of the club. There are some who manage weekly and monthly shoots and combinaons thereof. Others come weekly to spend me to maintaining grounds and ranges, run meengs and help at matches. This group is way too small. We have no paid staff and this small group volunteers their me and experse to the other members and the club property to maintain our operaons. If you have not been to the club at least once or twice in the past year to help out and support you need to review your priories and membership. If each member just spends 2-4 hours a year we would be overwhelmed with help. However, that is not the case. Especially you new members who we have coddled and supported through the membership process. We have asked this new group to not be Takers but Givers. If you a7ended the only one work party for membership, then you are Taking. To the veteran members, you know what is needed and you have used the club facilies over the years! Now is the me to step and help and pay back. We are not asking for blood or tears; those are for your country. All we are asking for is a few hours of sweat. Theodore Roosevelt said this Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work at work worth doing! 4 4 Dormont Mt Lebanon Sportsmen s Club Ladies Training When: Sunday October 30 th 1:00-3:00 Where: Meadow Pistol Range Do you have a friend you likes to hear about your shooting experiences? Here is a chance for them to come and give the shooting sport a try. We will be teaching safe gun handling and giving your friends a chance to shoot. While just a few new shooters are at the line everyone else is invited to gather around the picnic tables -- chatting and snacking. Will have some people available to answer questions about cleaning, storing, choosing ammo or anything else you have been wanting to ask. Space is limited. 5 5 DMSC Family Picnic More than a few years have passed since we had our last club picnic. A big thank you to John Bradford for organizing this event in August. Although the weather did not fully cooperate, everyone who a7ended enjoyed themselves. Between the rain showers, we played volleyball, corn hole and Frisbee. There was enough food to feed an army. We tried our best to eat it all, but every me I turned around Bonnie and the ladies were pu0ng more food out. Thanks to the many volunteers who helped make this event a success, including the Mt. Lebanon Rifle team.

But seven determined shooters made it through the HOT & HUMID conditions and still enjoyed the day. Welcome to Dave Burd on his first appearance with our High Power program. And it was equally good to see Nick Kuzy return after a shot hiatus. Top Score for the match was garnished by Bruce Long with a Nice job by all of the shooters. Next match will be held on Sep 3 rd. All are Welcome! Did I mention how HOT & HUMID it was?

It was indeed a pleasure to participate in the Summer M1A Match. Seven shooters brought out this tried and true rifle and spent an enjoyable Sunday with a great shooting firearm. The match also served as a preparation for the M1A Match held at Camp Perry during the National Matches. Five of the shooters also participated in that event as well. Mike Kennedy took top honors with a 448-4x. DMSC will hold the fall M1A Match on Sunday Sep13th. Keep those rifles cleaned and greased Hope to see all of you there.

Thompson Iron Eleven shooters fought through the 3H s (Heat, Humidity, and Hornets) to complete the second ARC Match. A wonderful time was had by all especially starting off with choice donuts. Wayne Thompson was the top shot with 324 pts. Chris Phillips held the #2 spot with a 301, and Nick Kuzy, Jr. fended off the others in the Limited group by scoring a 291. Nice shooting by all! I believe that all would agree that the term Basic Match is a misnomer. This match is a great building block to develop skills for shooting from different distances, different positions, using the support shoulder, and shooting from behind barricades as well as at multiple targets. This match does put a premium on the word Challenge in the title of America s Rifle Challenge. See you all for the 2017 Season.

Indoors during the winter and George Taylor (412) outdoors during the summer. Bruce Ungar (412) National Match Course. First line fires at 7pm indoors, and 6pm outdoors This fires the 4th Saturday of the month at 9 AM. April September The Civilian Marksmanship Program rifle matches occur the third Sunday of every month January - October. Matches begin at 11 AM. 200 yard match season begins March 8. Matches begin at 9 AM. March - October Our champion smallbore team practices every Sunday at 7 PM Trap shooting occurs every Tuesday starting at 7pm. The season runs April - October The season runs January - March. The shooters participate and shoot concurrent with the indoor open shoots on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday This program typically takes place in June and November. Any centerfire original military rifle with original open sights, no scopes, manufactured prior to January 1, 1946 and in safe shooting condition.
