This was my 100th silver coin for the year I was in the woods got an iffy signal thought it was a nail though it sounded so sweet. Was surprised when out it popped 2,484,000 minted, value in good-4 $ Ed Jewelry Mark Jenkins 14 K Yellow Gold and diamond Ring. I found this in an older park. Is un-marked, but tested 14 K. 2 Finds of the Month Token Foreign Coin Gary Clark 4 Doubles 1830 coin Guernsey. Open Minted for the Ilse of Guernsey Channel Islands off the coast of Normandy France. Is a British protectorate not part of the Commonwealth. Guernsey produced these large, bronze coins from 1830 to doubles minted prior to 1875 are valued at between $6 to $50 in fine condition. Chairs and tables must be clean and stored at the end of each club meeting. Treasure in the news! An Australian prospector has discovered a massive 145-ounce gold nugget worth more than $250,000. Dubbed Friday s Joy, the nugget was found with a Minelab metal detector in an already work-over area at the southern edge of central Victoria s Golden Triangle, an area well known for yielding gold, finding the top of the nugget only around 11 inches below the ground. The prospector who found the nugget wanted to stay anonymous. I thought it was rubbish at first, maybe an old horseshoe, the man said, I was in total disbelief as I didn t think nuggets of this size were still around. Editor s Corner Hi all, Another year gone by and a new one has just started. Have you got all of your metal detecting areas scoped out for the year and are dreaming of the best find of your life. You may happen to find it this year, but it can not happen if you do not get out and hunt. Come to the club hunts and get active in club activities. We had the finds of the year displayed and voted on at the January meeting and will announce the winners at the February meeting. I take all of the pictures in high resolution so if you have a good monitor you can zoom into any of the photos and get close up details of most of the finds. 4 Club Business Awards: Find of the Month: Overall winner with 108 points was Ron Aldridge who won a silver round, second by drawing was Mark Jenkins, a silver dollar. Third was Mark Kulseth a silver half and fourth was Phil Hoover a silver quarter. Fifth place went to Ernest Simpson two silver dimes. The Jug of Hope, worth $99 was won by Jack Davis. Joy s and Concerns, Rick Razor s Mom is recovering from a heart attack. Rick Razor s Mom s friend died in a tragic auto accident. Janelle Jenkin s came home from Alaska. The Silver Dollar raffle was won by Gary Clark. The AOK: Rick Razor for the raffle he had at the Christmas Meeting. He raised $85 for the Auburn Food Bank. No-No award: Ernest Simpson and Jason Anderson for getting stuck behind a train at the club hunt at Golden Gardens. Door Prize: Kandy Henneberry. A 1936 Silver half. Club Hunt: Club Hunt was held at Golden Gardens on January 7. 8 hearty members turned out including your humble editor. Only notable find was by Ken Cochran a small silver ring in the frozen hard sand. 5 Scavenger Hunt Contest: The current hunt list can be found at the back of this newsletter. The hunt runs until the June club meeting. Scavenger Hunt Totals: Selling table: The table is available for members to bring items they wish to sell or trade. No used appliances or cars are allowed. Members who bring items must remove them at the end of the meeting. Club hats and patches: Available at club meetings. Patches are $8, hats are $15. Detecting on public land: Always check with city, county, state or other websites for current metal detecting regulations before you go. Washington State Parks Metal Detecting pamphlet and web site answers many questions about which state parks are open and where to hunt. Check out their web site for more information: The new Parks liaison is Lisa Lantz. She can be contacted at Reminder: Use a ground cloth when digging in grassy areas to avoid leaving a mess. Activity fees for non-members: $15 for club activities, $12 for hunts only. Food Bank donations: Donations are needed all year long to support local food banks. Hunt site is about 5.7miles from I Hwy 18 take exit onto 231st St SE go east 1 block take left on Maple Valley hwy (169) towards Renton, turn left onto 152nd Ave SE. parking on right. Hunt site is about 9 miles from hwy 18 exit. Overnight parking Friday is OK (no tent area). Park nearest to hwy. Hunt Information: 2 Pre-Register Dates 1st Pre-register before May 15th and receive a Surprise Silver Coin & $10 off on the 3 hunt combination. 2nd Pre-register by July 1st and receive a Surprise Silver Coin. (Pre-registering helps determine extra prizes for hunts) On-site Registration will start around 8am to 8:45am. Registration will also be open between hunts. Silver Dollar: There will be several drawings for a silver dollar throughout the day Spinning Wheel : We are going to have a spinning wheel to win prizes (soda, candy, miscellaneous items on tables, silver coins and tickets for other prizes). Spins are 25 ea or 5 for $1. Main Raffle: tickets will be available throughout the day. Prizes include: a $$$ Treasure box, a $5 Gold Coin, a Metal Detector and other great prizes. Opening Ceremony : will begin at 8:45am. 1st hunt: Drunken Sailor 9-9:45am 3000 clad coins, tokens good for prizes (including silver coins, metal detector and a gold coin). Lunch will be a BBQ potluck: bring favorite side dish, salad, or dessert. CTC will supply plates, napkins, eating utensils, hamburgers, hot dogs, buns and condiments. 2nd hunt: Yo - Ho - Ho a Pirate s Life For Me 11-11:45am 3700 clad coins, tokens good for prizes (including silver coins, metal detector and a gold coin). 3rd hunt: 15 Men on Dead Man s Chest 1:45 2:45pm During the last 15 minutes of this hunt, the other two fields will be re-opened to hunt along with this hunt field. You will be able to use any prize tokens you find. This hunt will have over 4550 clad coins and tokens good for prizes (including silver coins, metal detector and a gold coin). Hunt rules: New Life Church is allowing us to use their property please treat their field and property with respect: tokens and coins will not be buried just hidden in the grass. Hunting in the fields prior to or after the hunt is not allowed. You may use only one detector & pin pointer. Only registered hunters are allowed on fields during hunts (exceptions must be cleared in advance by hunt Chairpersons). Thunder Storms will delay or stop a hunt.
