3 RULES 1. Local and State Rules govern this competition. 2. Exhibitors are responsible for reading the Competition Guidelines and must abide by them. 3. If you need assistance determining the Division and/or Class, please contact the Exhibits Office at (714) or Inquiries will be responded to within 72 business hours. Personal assistance is also available on Help Days; see Help With Entering on page Entry fees are non-refundable There will be no refunds for any reason. By entering the competition you are confirming that you accept the no-refund policy. 5. All entries must have been completed within the last year. 6. Display and location of entry is at the discretion of the Program Coordinator. No entry will be accepted where an exhibitor describes conditions under which they will exhibit or how the entry must be displayed. 7. Work must be finished; no incomplete or work in progress will be accepted. 8. Entries with small parts or multiple objects must be secured on a sturdy base or packaged so it does not get separated from the exhibit. 9. Delivered entries not following the rules for media, size and proper presentation will be disqualified. 10. Final acceptance of the entry will be left to the discretion of the Program Coordinator. 11. Due to the family-oriented theme of the OC Fair, no work dealing with drug use, obscenity, defamatory statements, violence or gang activity, satanic or cult themes or other offensive or objectionable content will be accepted. This is at the discretion of the OC Fair staff. 12. Although reasonable efforts will be undertaken to safeguard exhibitors property against loss, damage or theft, neither the State of California nor the OC Fair & Event Center will be responsible for any loss, damage or theft of exhibitors property brought on the premises during the period of the OC Fair. Every precaution will be taken in the handling and exhibiting of entries. 13. Exhibits must be picked up on Entry Pickup Day. Failure to do so may result in the items being discarded. 1

4 ELIGIBILITY Open to youth ages 3-12 (by July 13, ) who live, attend school, or are club members in Orange County. Contests & Entertainment are open to youth of all ages. ENTRY LIMIT See specific divisions OC Exhibitor FAIR TICKET Exhibitors will receive one (1) OC Fair admission ticket, at time of entry delivery. One (1) ticket per exhibitor, not one per entry. Tickets are valid any day the Fair is open. HOW TO ENTER Online Entry Deadline: Friday, June 1,, by 6 p.m. 1. Review the Kids Category Rules and OC Fair Guidelines. 2. Choose from the Divisions and Classes listed on pages Enter online at ocfair.fairmanager.com and pay the entry fee (per entry). 4. If entering into Kids Photography, you will be asked to upload your entry after submitting. See the Entry Tutorial below for instructions. Exhibitor Name Please enter using the child s name as it will appear on the display tag. Last year s accounts are no longer valid. All entrants must create a new account. In box labeled Pay Premiums to, please write the name of a parent or adult who will accept any possible cash awards. Entry Confirmation An notification and confirmation will be sent immediately after your online payment is received. If the confirmation does not arrive shortly after submitting payment, please check your Spam/Junk folder before contacting the OC Fair. Entry Fees Entry fees are payable online with a credit card (Visa, MasterCard or Amex). No refunds will be issued. Youth Divisions - $3 per entry. Claim Check or photo ID is required for pick up. If you are unable to pick up your items, please arrange for someone to pick them up for you. Unclaimed items and ribbons become the property of the OC Fair and will be discarded. The OC Fair & Event Center is not responsible for exhibits left after this date. 3

6 Judging Youth Divisions Placed using the Danish Judging System where each entry is judged on how well it meets a standard rather than how it compares to other entries. Entries are judged Blue (superior), Red (very good) or White (average) Award. There may be more than one Blue, Red or White Award per class. All Blue Awards will then compete, using the American Judging System, for Best of Class. Those chosen for Best of Class will compete for Division Winner. Blue Ribbon Kids All Blue Ribbon Kids (ages 3-8) receive a special ribbon. The entries are not judged and are not eligible for cash awards. Judging Criteria Youth entries are judged on appearance, workmanship, creativity/originality and an overall score. Reassignment of Entry Division or Class Judges and/or the Program Coordinator have the option of reassigning an entry to a more appropriate Division or Class or may combine Divisions or Classes to create an adequate judging pool. Nonetheless, it is the responsibility of exhibitors to enter work in the appropriate Class. Failure to enter the appropriate Class may result in disqualification. Disqualified Entries If an entry is disqualified after judging is complete, the judge will not change the status of awards given for other entries. Awards available are different per Division and depicted in each Division description. Exhibitors will receive awarded ribbons on Entry Pickup Day. Award checks will be made payable to the contact name indicated on the entry form and mailed within 30 days after the close of the OC Fair. Judging Results All entries will be displayed in the Explorium Tent with any awards received. Results will be posted online around the second week of the OC Fair at ocfair.com/results. Please do not call or for competition results. Awards Ceremony Saturday, August 11, 12:30 p.m. Hosted on the Explorium Stage. Best of Show, Division Winner, Judges Award, Best of Class and Most Creative recipients will be invited to attend and be recognized at the ceremony. Invitations will be sent to the address provided at entry registration. All entrants and the general public are welcome to attend the ceremony. 4

7 fair foodies The OC Fair Foodies are back! Make a sculpture of your favorite Fair Foodie. You can use paper-mâché, fabric, plastic, styrofoam or recycled items. Entry Limit: 1 per child Size Limit: 12 inch x 12 inch x 12 inch All entries must be mounted securely to a steady base. Best of Class - $35 DIVISION 101 fair foodies, ages 5-8 Blue Ribbon Kids are free to enter, receive a special ribbon and are not eligible for cash awards. DIVISION 301 fair foodies, ages 9-12, ages 9-10 Class 02: Any Item, ages Art from recycled material Two- or three-dimesional artwork made from 80 percent recycled materials. Include a description of the original uses of the item. Entry Limit: 1 per child Size Limit: 12 inch x 12 inch x 12 inch Best of Class - $35 DIVISION 102 art from recycled material, ages 5-8 Blue Ribbon Kids are free to enter, receive a special ribbon and are not eligible for cash awards. 8 DIVISION 100 Color Your Inner Farmer, ages 3-4 Print out a copy of this page onto cardstock and color to show us your best inner farmer. Entry Limit: 1 per child. Blue Ribbon Kids are free to enter, receive a special ribbon and are not eligible for cash awards. 6

9 lego superheroes Design and build your favorite superhero figure using LEGOS. Entry Limit: 1 per child Size Limit: 12 inch x 12 inch x 12 inch No kits please. Best of Class - $35 DIVISION 103 lego superheroes, ages 5-8 Blue Ribbon Kids are free to enter, receive a special ribbon and are not eligible for cash awards. DIVISION 303 lego superheroes, ages 9-12, ages 9-10 Class 02: Any Item, ages free your inner farmer poster art Create a poster showing the theme at the OC Fair. You may use chalk, watercolor, pencil, crayons, markers, etc. Entry Limit: 1 per child Size Limit: 11-inch x 17-inch poster paper. Write your name on the back of the poster. Posters will be laminated by the OC Fair. Best of Class - $35 DIVISION 104 poster art, ages 5-8 Blue Ribbon Kids are free to enter, receive a special ribbon and are not eligible for cash awards. DIVISION 304 poster art, ages 9-12, ages 9-10 Class 02: Any Item, ages

10 drawing & painting Are you a budding artist? Create an original drawing or painting to show off your talent! Entry Limit: 1 per child Size Limit: 8 1/2 x 11 max (including frame) Age Limit: Ages 9-12 only Include name and age of artist on back of artwork. Media Accepted: Art using pastels, oils, acrylics, pencil, colored pencil, charcoal, pen and pencil, scratch board and watercolor. No school work, e.g. Meet the Masters. Best of Show - $50 Division Winner - $40 DIVISION 306 drawing DIVISION 307 painting kids photography Show us the best photograph you ve taken. Entry Limit: 1 per class Size Limit: Must be less than 3MB. Age Limit: Ages 9-12 only Upload entries during your submission process. See Help With Entering on page 2 for details. Entry must be original artwork created by the artist whose name appears on the entry form. Group work is not allowed. All entries submitted will be shown during the OC Fair in a digital picture frame display in the Explorium tent. awards Division Winner - $40 Best of Class - $35 DIVISION 308 kids photography Class 01: Color Image From a single original exposure. Class 02: Black & White Image From a single original exposure. Sepia-toned is acceptable. Class 03: Candid Shot From a single, original exposure. Class 04: Digitally Manipulated Image Using your cellphone or digital camera, take an original photo and significantly change the photo using a cell phone app or computer program. 8

Youth Collections, ages 5 to 12 only, will be displayed in the Explorium Tent. Family entertainment The Explorium stage will host Contests & Entertainment every hour of the Fair. Please see billboard in front of Explorium for details. No online entry required. DIVISION 106 blue ribbon kids collections, ages 5-8 Blue Ribbon Kids receive a special ribbon and are not eligible for cash awards.
