Many of you are aware that the airport has recently entered into a new lease with the Santa Maria Karting Association. As a condition of approval they will be installing a fence around the kart track.

Box 5241, Santa Maria, CA Presidents Message A lot of s have been going back and forth regarding our future autocross events at the Santa Maria Airport. Many of you are aware that the airport has recently entered into a new lease with the Santa Maria Karting Association. As a condition of approval they will be installing a fence around the kart track. Unfortunately this fence will impact the track used for our events on the west side by approximately 100 feet. Bruce Bruno, from the Porsche Club and John Mahoney are working closely to ensure we will still have the space to set up a safe and fun autocross track for both clubs. Per John s sketch of a potential layout, it looks very promising that the loss of 100ft of track will not impact us to the point of not holding events there. Bruce and Chuck Jennings will be meeting with the airport to get more specifics. Happy Father s Day to all of you dads! This is the first time in too many years that our club has not worked security for the Pismo Beach Car Show this weekend. I drove through Pismo on Friday night and felt such a relief that it wasn t us standing for hours over the four day event! What were we thinking! You have to laugh at this point! Time passes quickly and we will be hosting our September 15th event before we know it. Last year we put together a committee to work all the details. I would like to ask for volunteers to be part of the planning for this event. There is a lot of work that needs to take place if we are going to have a successful event. How about coming up with a catchy name this year for our flyers! Send me your ideas! 2 June Meeting Minutes by Bev Erickson The meeting was called to order by Gale Haugen at 6:40 p.m. Those present were Doug and Debbie Chase, Cliff and Bev Erickson, Al Ferguson, Chuck Jennings and Kevin (scholarship winner) John and Debbie Mahoney, Doug Nicoll, Gale Haugen and Hector Paz, and Larry Wright. General Business The minutes were approved of the last meeting motioned by Chuck Jennings and seconded by John Mahoney. Autocross Lessons Learned, things have changed and Gale said there was only one porta potty and there should of been two. John Mahoney said the radios were working good this time and the workers were better. There was almost 20 people that never auto crossed with us before. Drivers meeting was a little long. Debbie Mahoney said we need more TSA workers. Another club might swap out there members for our members. We might loan our cones out as a trading possibility for workers. Our next autocross is October 13 and Kevin has volunteered to help out with that. On the Newsletter Gale said she was gone three weeks so she will put out May and June's newsletter combined. We would like a picture of each club member with their car. AHC Scholarship Banquet Gale said their were 1500 people present. Chuck Jennings said there was a lot of community pride. Food was very good and program was good. Treasurer Report Hector Paz passed out accounting sheets. He touched on the income and expenses for May. Club is doing well and he also explained the first 7 days in June due to the autocross. He explained the outcome for the autocross. There was some discussion on the coffee expense and the fact we did not have a caterer. Don Mahoney said we need to do some research on a new timing system. John made a motion to work on the trailer, getting it fixed up with shelves etc. There was some discussion on this. June Meeting Minutes Cont d NCCC Governor Report John Mahoney passed out autocross results, one is the trophy page, and timings. He wanted to know if anyone is going to Big Bear. He passes out some flyers of other club events. National Convention will be Georgia. We were lacking Corvettes at our last autocross. He brought up the possibility of a Corvette only autocross at our annual event. John did hand out the trophies for the NCCC April event at the Governor s meeting. Vice President Report Chuck Jennings discussed social events...4th of July BBQ at Shell Beach at Gale and Hector's will be July 7th. Lompoc Special Olympic Car Show in August. Around the Table Hector Paz: When is the C-7 corvettes coming out. Turned in the Badges for autocross. Larry Wright: For being a small club we put out a good event on the autocross. Charity Golf tournament on the 29th. This is a charity tournament to sponsor unwed mother's. (several club members decided to donate along with the club as this is non profit.) This is a good cause. June 23rd is the actual date of the tournament. There was a motion made for the club to donate and all seconded. Al Ferguson: Wife is doing good some days. He was sorry he missed the autocross. Bev Erickson: Eventually we will make the autocross. Two grandsons that graduated from the 6th grade and 8th grade with honor awards. Cliff Erickson: Need more members. Thank Gale for the pizza. He mentioned eating out after the meetings to get more acquainted. Kevin: Thanks for the scholarship. Chuck Jennings: If you didn't go to the concourse it was a very successful event. This is for Hospice and was held at the Madonna Inn. 2

Meeting was adjourned at 8:02 p.m. Arroyo Grande Relay for Life The 7th annual Relay for Life is scheduled for July 28th at the Arroyo Grande High School track.

Both Hector and Gale are on the Relay committee again this year so have limited time to devote to our VTV campsite.

There will be a car show, two rallies, high speed event and a low speed autocross. Gale says we need donations for the raffle for our annual event on September 15th. Club Members Business Cards Sunshine Lady - Debbie Chase 50/50: Debbie Chase won Name Tag Drawing: Gale Haugen s name was drawn but didn't have her badge on so the money goes back in for next time. Door Prize: Larry Wright won Our next meeting will be at Gale & Hector's BBQ on July 7th We will also review our VTV website at the same time. Meeting was adjourned at 8:02 p.m. Arroyo Grande Relay for Life The 7th annual Relay for Life is scheduled for July 28th at the Arroyo Grande High School track. This years theme is The Colors of Cancer. Some of you came out last year to support the Vapor Trail Vette Team and we appreciated your help very much. Both Hector and Gale are on the Relay committee again this year so have limited time to devote to our VTV campsite. As a fundraiser we will have the spinning wheel game again and are required to pick one color representing a specific type of cancer. A poster board and educational information is presented at our site. There will another huge raffle this year put on by the Relay. Gale has raffle tickets for sale at $10.00 each. The money we collect goes towards our team total donations. Please consider coming out this year to support our site or buy/sell raffle tickets. AHC Scholarship Awards Banquet by Chuck Jennings AHC Scholarship Awards Banquet On May 24th I attended the annual scholarship awards banquet at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, and I had the

As you may know, VTV annually awards $1500 to the AHC scholarship fund, specifying three scholarships of $500 each awarded to students in the automotive disciplines.

4 AHC Scholarship Awards Banquet by Chuck Jennings AHC Scholarship Awards Banquet On May 24th I attended the annual scholarship awards banquet at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, and I had the privilege of presenting our $500 scholarship certificates to two our recipients. As you may know, VTV annually awards $1500 to the AHC scholarship fund, specifying three scholarships of $500 each awarded to students in the automotive disciplines. This year, the awards went to Jorge Lerena, Cora Poropat, and Kevin Strawder. Cora and Kevin were in attendance and sat next to me at the banquet table. This was Cora's second year to receive the scholarship, and she says she will apply again next year. Chuck Jennings with recipients & family members. The banquet was an impressive event with approximately 1500 people in attendance. I was inspired by the overall sense of pride and appreciation. But most of all, I was very impressed with the expressions of appreciation and gratitude from Cora and Kevin. They are enthusiastic about their studies and their career directions. And they genuinely thanked me and VTV for our support. I invited Cora and Kevin to attend our autocross on June 2. I explained that they would have to come in as workers, but that at the same time, they would be our honored guests. I hope they contact me to confirm and attend.
