We are now delighted to report that a brand new training centre was opened during Carnival week on the 23 April and that a new group of trainees competed in their very first race. This is a significant achievement particularly as this new centre has managed to attract local sponsorship for both the training centre and the race series. Daniel Perez one of the UIM Ambassadors in St Thomas commented before the race that "They are all super excited as well as us all since this will be the first time to have an organized racing event held in Virgin Islands. This is a big event for the islands considering the amount of crowd carnival draws and with us being the main event on the water front we could draw a tremendous amount of attention and interest". And so it was the event was a huge success with many more interested trainees planning to join the newly established centre. First Aquabike Training Session in Montenegro John Puddifoot, Chairman UIM Youth Development, recently returned from here following a fact finding mission as part of the process of compiling a brand new UIM Aquabike training manual. The process of writing this new training book is now well underway thanks to Aleksandar Petrovic and Volia Dzikovich of the Montenegro powerboat federation. During this visit, the Federation organized the first Aquabike training session and more than 12 new riders attended. This was an extremely useful practical demonstration of training in action which was of course followed by a hotly contested series of time trials. All of those who took part in the training thoroughly enjoyed the day and we have no doubt that as a result the Montenegro Federation will be seeing many new riders in the future. The new UIM Aquabike training manual will be part of the UIM Youth Development Programme Propstars and this exciting new manual will be launched at the UIM General Assembly in October.

Just as it did over a century ago when the motor industry gathered in Monte- Carlo to showcase their technological jewels to the world, Monaco aims to create the same environment for electric motors and the future of sustainable mobility. Very fruitful 2017 UIM Mid-term meetings On May 5-7, the UIM held its annual Mid-term meetings in Amsterdam. Some 50 UIM delegates from 20 countries were registered to meet over two full days of committee meetings, including those of the COMINOFF, COMINTECH, COMINSPORT, F4 and P750 Working Groups and to look back over a 5-month period since the beginning of the 2017 racing season. The UIM President, Dr. Raffaele Chiulli, who came to Amsterdam for the occasion, encouraged debate and interaction amongst the delegates: These meetings are very important for discussing new standards and preparing amendments to the UIM regulations to be voted at the October General Assembly he said. The first day of meetings featured a Technical Workshop session for Sports Commissioners, held under the guidance of COMINTECH President Mikael Lundblad (SWE) and Technical Commissioner Gordon Sutherland (UK). The workshop focused on key issues related to the mission and duty of technical scrutineers at UIM races and the compliance of boats, engines and equipment with the UIM rules and regulations. The COMINSPORT meeting gave its members the occasion to draw up the draft calendar of the 2018 CIRCUIT racing season on basis of the applications received from the National Authorities wishing to organize titled events in The 2018 UIM Calendar will be discussed in full at the Calendar Meeting during the 90th UIM General Assembly in Budva, Montenegro, in October At the margin of the Mid-term meetings, Irish driver John Ryan received from the hands of the UIM President, Raffaele Chiulli and UIM Secretary General, Thomas Kurth the UIM World Record Certificate for having established the Offshore Long Distance World Record for Class up to 50ft boats, together with Phillip Fitzgibbon, Sean McNamara and Denis Dillon. The action packed schedule kicked-off with practice and was followed by official...qualifying. In GP1, the French Raphael Maurin enjoyed the timelight and simply outclassed his UIM-ABP World Championship rivals at the opening round of the UIM-ABP European Continental Championship in Zadar to dominate the competition in Ski GP1 with the perfect scorecard. The Frenchman made his first point by qualifying in pole and winning Moto 1 and then going on to complete his win hat-trick for overall victory... On Sunday, 21th of May, Denmark s Marcus Jorgensen also enjoyed the best of the action in Runabout and was well on top going into today s third and final Moto at the opening round of the UIM- ABP Aquabike European Continental Championship in Zadar. Starting from pole each time in both GP1&3, the Dane was the dominant rider, winning GP1 Moto 1 by over 30 seconds and Moto 2 by a colossal minute plus, and both times it was Austrian Markus Schick who trailed him to the chequered flag. For Nacho Armillas, the Championship was not so successful, the World and European title aspirations have been dashed after breaking his left leg at the opening round of the UIM-AP European Continental Championship in Zadar on the final day.the Spanish ace crashed heavily on lap 6 during the final Moto in Ski GP1, suffering a triple break to his left femur and was taken to hospital to be operated on. Porto Cesareo celebrates spectacular opener The Championship in Porto Cesareo in Italy begans with a huge turnout for the opening round of the UIM-ABP Aquabike world championships.

The Norway's Daniel Svae Andersen marked the beginning of this championship with an impressive performance by doing his quickest time in official qualifying in Ski GP2.

4 Porto Cesareo celebrates spectacular opener The Championship in Porto Cesareo in Italy begans with a huge turnout for the opening round of the UIM-ABP Aquabike world championships. This one has exceeded expectations of everyone, 140 riders from 26 countries participated to the championship. The Norway's Daniel Svae Andersen marked the beginning of this championship with an impressive performance by doing his quickest time in official qualifying in Ski GP2. He finally sealed the Ski GP2 World Championship after finishing in second place behind Benjamin Scharff in the final moto. The fifteen years old driver, Marten Manni started with a real shot at the title but the young Estonian rider was unable to reproduce the form that saw him Moto 1, finishing in fifth and take the remaining spot on the championship podium. The Grand Prix of Italy lived a sensational Final Moto in the Ladies Ski Division that produced two moments of high drama and was ultimately a table of two laps. The French rider Estelle Poret made a brillant start from P2 to lead from Moto 1 winner Emma-Nellie Orthendhal, but fell on lap two to hand the lead to the defending World Champion from Sweden; However, the Ladies Ski Division lived a turnaround when Orthendahl that opened up a seemingly unassailable lead, fell at the start of the penultimate lap allowing Poret to retake the lead, it is finally Estelle Poret who won the Grand Prix of Italy. Jeremy poret started his title defence with overall victory in the UIM-ABP Aquabike Grand Prix of Italy in Ski Division GP1, but it was the young Belgian rider Quinten Boscche who stole the headlines with a brillant win in Moto 2 on his UIM-ABP debut. The Italian Mattia Fracasso produced a brilliant performance in the Final Moto at the UIM-ABP Aquabike Grand Prix of Italy to win the Runabaout GP2 World Championship. He punched the air and saluted the cheering crowd after taking the chequered flag to claim the GP2 world title five years after winning the GP1 crown. On Saturday 3th of June, Rok Florjancic made a last minute switch of Ski, borrowing brother Nac's after a problem with his new RNF hull just moments before he was due to start and proceeded to take victory in heat 1in Freestyle. Yousef Al Abdulrazzaq started this season with overall victory in the UIM-ABP Aquabike Grand Prix of Ital, but was outclassed in Moto 2 by a spectacular performance by Hungary's Gyorgy Kasza, charging from the back of the field of 21 to take the win.

The exploits of the 54 th edition of 24h of Rouen The 24 hours of Rouen took up the Seine on April 30 th and May 1 st 2017.

The first session of race took place on Sunday 30 th of April from 10:40 am till 1 am in the morning on Monday, May 1 st.

5 The exploits of the 54 th edition of 24h of Rouen The 24 hours of Rouen took up the Seine on April 30 th and May 1 st For this 54 th edition, 28 teams and 112 pilots were committed in this first round of the UIM World Championship. The first session of race took place on Sunday 30 th of April from 10:40 am till 1 am in the morning on Monday, May 1 st. The 54 th edition lived a very animated day with a departure delayed and spectacular accidents. This first day of race proved again that 1- Nollet mastered the event. While all the observers waited for a quiet departure of this worldwide stable, he thwarted all the forecasts by going in head from the first one of 500 turns that he browsed on April 30 th. Philippe Chiappe and his team-mates imposed demanding rhythm for their prosecutors who did not want to leave them widen the gap. The 5 Vsi Racing + Immo kept his second place to the general by turning in about fifteen turns of the leader and maintained an advance of fifteen turns on his direct prosecutor 25-Team Privilege, real surprise of this 54 th edition. We also noted for this first day a good performance in S1 which remained in 7 th position. Few battle in S2, compared to last year, with positions relatively frozen by gaps of 15 to 20 laps between each competitors. In stands, two boats did not return to the water, 36- Abu Dhabi with the lifting of its stake and for 68- Phoenix Racing Team with a broken back board. The second day of the race which started the 1 st of May at 7:00 am; was the resumption of the race. This was traditionally the moment chosen for teams to proceed to revisions to approach the last 9 hours in good conditions. So the Team Nollet's boats stayed on the quay during the resumption. At 8 o'clock in the morning, 5-Team Vsi Racing + Immo suffered of a delicate return, they went back to the stand in trailer following an accident. The winners of the 2017 edition of the 24h of Rouen The day continued with several highlights which impacted the top ranking. the Team 1-Nollet came back to the stand 45 minutes later after its delivery in the water for a broken helix following a chock. The replacement was made quickly however, at 9:45 pm, he was forced to a new exit for replacement of cables of steering controls. Following the accident of the team 5-Vsi Racing+ Immo, the mechanics did their maximum to return to the water by limiting the waste of time on Russian boats which have just abducted his place on the podium. As for the Team 4-Sun Racing, after a first day of regularity, saw catching up by their old devils and had to return in stands with concerns recurring of base. Four hours before the end of the race, the news were not so good for the 26-Team Nollet, who broke his engine. For the remaining laps Chiappe s main challenge came from Stark who kept the pressure on the leader, but his hopes of a podium on his return to racing for Team Sweden faltered two laps short of the chequered flag with engine problems, retiring but classified in eighth, his teammate Jonas Andersson suffering the same fate after just five laps. This race was all about managing the engine after what we learned in qualifying about the fuel" said Chiappe. Torrente's teammate Ahmed Al Hameli then followed up and made it a Victory Team onetwo before he spectacularly crashed out after posting a time 43.13s, his time matched by Team Sweden s Erik Stark. 7 My engine didn t have the same punch as normal so we decided to play safe with the set-up. I sat back a little and took my chance when it came. Mad Croc BABA Racing's Sami Selio made up for a frustrating morning session after qualifying in ninth and despite a three-way duel with Duarte Benavente and Bartek Marszalek early on, broke away to take his second consecutive podium in Portimao. Benavente and Marzsalek enjoyed a race long tussle and the late demise of Stark upped the ante with a podium place at stake, Benavente taking advantage of a mistake from Marszalek who clouted and destroyed a turn buoy and passing him four laps from the flag to take his second podium in Portimao. The drive of the day belonged to Abu Dhabi s Alex Carella after a desperate weekend for the team, damaging four out of five engines with Carella the only one of the three to make the start, Thani and Rashed Al Qemzi both side-lined. It was a disappointing day for Emirates racing with Marit Stromoy retiring on lap seven and teammate Mike Szymura disqualified for failing to respond to the race commissioner s instructions. It was also a frustrating day for Mad Croc s Filip Roms, a loose camera hitting the kill switch on his fuel pump and forcing him to retire on lap 31. Despite making the start line after his crash in qualifying and posting the seventh best time, Blaze Performance s Francesco Cantando s race came to a premature end on lap 1. Now, everyone is waiting for the second round of the UIM F1H20 World Championship which will take place in Evian - France on June 30 -July 2 nd. Drivers are already preparing themselves for this second round, with the deadline for equipment to be in Evian by 27 June, the race is now on to resolve any issues, rebuild engines, prepare thoroughly and in some cases...turn...around...boats. Defending Champion and Race 1 winner Philippe Chiappe looked set to unveil his new Moore Formula hull, but Evian is his "Bogey Circuit" where he has not finished in his previous two outing. He leads a quartet of drivers looking to become a first French Winner on home waters. The Team Abu Dhabi who suffered in Portugal by losing four out of five engines, says that now, they fully understand the problem and are working hard to resolve it. All three drivers will run the same boats and the team is planning to test on the June Alex Carella targeting a second consecutive victory on Europe's largest Alpine Lake. Moreover, we could witness to a surprising second round as the Lake Geneva is known for its tricky conditions, big rollers and his unpredictables winds.
