He was taxed on these 217 acres in Amelia as John Hendrick Sr. in In 1801 and 1802 he was a tax defaulter in Amelia on 217 acres. In 1814 the land was released on the application of one Edward Webster. Witness: William Sadler, John Wood, John (x) Laneare. [Mecklenburg County, VA, Will Book 7, p61] Stone and Hendrick were married to sisters according to Will Hendricks. Eusebius (spelled many ways) is one of those peculiar given names that flourished within one particular Stone family and their related families. There were several Stones carrying that name. It probably comes from Eusebius of Ceasarea, the first and most prolific historian of the early Christian church. William Hendrick of Mecklenburg had a grandson named Eusebius (son of James) and at least one great-grandson. 8 Aug 1803 Marriage: Miller Woodson to Sophia W. Hendrick, Amasa Palmer, security. The above mentioned is for the purchase of a negro boy named Wiley. If the said negro boy should die before my wife Mary Hendrick, then the above mentioned bond to be null & void if not to remain in full force & virtue. Also I give & bequeath all of my perishable estate to the three aforesaid children which is to be sold to the highest bidder & the proceeds to be eaqually(sic) divided between said children. In the event however that William, Thomas and John should die before they get the aforesaid property in possession then & in that case the same is to go to my Grand daughter Lucy W.
