2 Three Georgian Vignettes as commissioned y the University o Georgia Band, Athens, Georgia, David Romines, Associate Director, or the 006 Midest Middle School Honor Band The comosition is a three-movement suite in hich each movement rovides a musical deiction o a ale dran rom Georgian olklore The irst movement, "The Heron and the Hummingird," is a tale in hich the to irds argue over ho shall eat the ish in the river, and decide to have a race in hich the inner gets all the ish The hummingird gets so ar ahead that he stos to rest and enoy the nectar o the loers along the ay, hile the heron never stos his onderous light and eventually reaches the inish o the race irst exlaining hy to this day the herons eat ish and the hummingirds drink nectar "Cros in the Corn" is a tyical ay that olks in Georgia say that it is time to ake u The ale tells o a armer and his ie ho decided to slee late, ignoring the arnings o the creatures in the arnyard that the cros are in the corn! By the time they eventually rolled out o ed, all the corn as gone The inal movement deicts the story o "Brer Rait alls Don the Well" Brer Rait and some o his other riends ere orking in the garden hen he decided to retend he got a thorn in his a so that the others ould suggest he go ash it in the ell, ut instead o ashing his a, he craled into the ucket to take a na and leave the others to do the ork But the ucket suddenly lunged to the ottom o the ell and the ucket o ater in the ottom ust as quickly le to the to!
