2 unch ist Notes You ll Need... (1) Five-gallon plastic paint bucket w/ handle removed. The bucket is to struck on the bottom, upside-down, with sticks. (1) Industrial sturdy push broom (preerably at least 2 wide.). (1) arge plastic trash can. This will be attached across the back o the waist using a bungee cord. Two eye bolts will need to be attached with nuts, bolts and large washers. The can is worn bottom-up and struck with hammer handles that have wrapped hand clothes on one end used or the beating. Wrap the cloth totally using duct tape. (1) Five rung metal step ladder. The ladder is played with sticks. (1) One-gallon metal paint can illed with rice or beans or making a large shaker. Also, the top o the can will be played with a stick which is placed in a back pocket while shaking the shaker. (1) Samba whistle or police whistle is also carried around the neck on a lanyard by the shaker can player. (1) 20 or 30 gallon metal trash can (lid removed), to be played on the bottom with sticks. (2) Metal trash can lids, with handles. These are played as crash cymbals would be. erormance Notes... All players are o stage in the beginning o the piece. The plastic bucket player is irst to appear carrying the bucket, sticks and a chair. The player comes to center stage, sits down and perorms a short solo on the bucket. When ready, the player starts the groove in bar 1. From here, players being entering the stage, preerably alternating sides o the stage rom which they appear and play their written parts. Note that bars 1-28 are simply 2 bar phrases and i this needs to be extended because o stage size, needing more time to comortably appear, etc., that is ine. Blocking in this opening sequence is up to the group. The metal can player may bring out a chair, i preered, but may stand while playing. Make sure the broom player will have plenty o room to perorm the high lit sections (bars 33-34), as well as plenty o room to sweep. The shaker can and crash lids players may roam about i they wish or stay stationary. There are, however, a ew spots where it is a necessity or certain players to be in certain spots... in bar 50, the shaker can is held or the ladder player to strike on top, as the ladder lick moves down the rungs... in bars the crash lids player needs to hold the lids or the metal can solo and then in bars or the plastic bucket player, this sequence is repeated in bars In bars the crash lids player needs to run between the bucket and can soloists where they play, giving the appearance o utter mayheim or the crash lids player. (eally play this up.) In bars 69-72, the crash lids player turns acing the audience and makes a very slow, dramatic bow accepting total credit or the physical dislay ust witnessed. (Wave those lids high in the air!) In bars the crash lids player needs to hold lids or the large plastic can solo. In bars 44 & 52 the ensemble looks out to the crowd during these vocal points. Feel ree to be abrasive, point, sneer, etc... have un with it. On the & o 4 in bars 89 & 93, the entire ensemble makes a drastic, dramatic pose... looking o into the air, etc... and reezes until the 4th beat o bar 90 and beat 3 o bar 94, the new tempo set by the metal can player.
