Oten ound in strings and winds as a quick cascade uward or downward. : unmeasured accelerando (or ritardando i reversed) : highest note ossible k-tr : key-trill. Trill between two alternate ingerings o the same itch. A slight microtonal dierence is desired. MSP : molto sul onticello ord. : ordinario Figures and atterns within boxes are to be layed through the duration o the thick bar ollowing the igure. Courtesy rests are given or igures that do not begin or end at the beginning o a measure to show lacement. At rehearsal numbers 6 and 2, the string igure reeats as described above but the itches are nonseciic. The glissando continues uward, does not begin with original notes each reetition, and climbs in small intervallic increments. The double-sto should, in general, be maintained rom the revious reeated igure. Perormers should change strings as necessary. Program Note While visiting Nara, Jaan well-known or the deer that roam the town I sent some time in a small ark corner instead observing the light atterns o our or ive swallows doing a sort o territorial dance. The graceul luctuation in their rhythmic constancy was striking. Fast and luid, oten inches rom the grass, the swallows would bank in wide arcs, licker to a sto, and begin anew solo, in airs, trios or more.
