9 CLIMATE: November is undoubtedly an enjoyable time of the year to visit Athens, Greece as the weather is warmer than most of the European natons. The average temperature in November is 15 C (59 F), while the average low is 12 C (54 F), and the average high is 18 C (64 F). The humidity is relatively comfortable with the cooler temperatures. CURRENCY: Greece is another one of several European countries that uses the Euro as currency. Euros are widely available at currency exchange offices throughout the world. The offered exchange rates will vary. Visist www. xe.com for exchange rates. Athens Public Transport Tickets & Travel Passes There are ample sources of traveling in Athens; To name a few: City buses Electric trolley-buses Athens Metro Athens Tram, and Athens Suburban railway. The Athens transport ticket system have transited from paper tickets to modern electronic tickets with the use of plastic smartcards. These e-tickets or smart cards after their validation for transportation transfers on: city Buses (All buses run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week), Trolley- Buses, Tram, Metro (all stations except Airport), Suburban Railway. These tickets are sold at all public transport ticket kiosks and the automatic ticket machines in the metro and tram stations. You must validate your ticket right after entering the bus or the tram or before entering the metro at the validating machines. After the expiration of the validity period, validation of a new ticket is required. If you plan to stay in Athens for up to 3 days, you should consider purchasing a 3-day tourist ticket ( 22) upon your arrival at the airport. Especially if you travel between the airport and the city center by Metro, and also take a few shorter rides while in Athens, this should be the best ticket for you. However, if you re going to use an express bus for the airport ( 6 per route) and then take the metro while in the city just a few times it might be better purchasing 90-minute tickets ( 1.40) when you do so or get a 24-hour ticket ( 4.5). If you plan to stay in Athens for longer than 3 days, you will definitely need separate tickets for your Airport Athens center (and vice versa) trips and your trips within Athens. Express buses from/to the airport ( 6) cost cheaper than taking the Metro ( 10). For your trips within Athens, a 5-day ticket for all modes ( 9), or a 24-hour ticket ( 4.5) if you don t use public transport every day, might be cheaper than purchasing a 90-minute ticket ( 1.40) every time you get in a metro station or take the bus. Athens Taxi Fares Starting charge: 1.29 Daytime charge : 0.74 /km. Day time charge applies from 05:00 to 24:00. Night-time charge: 1.29 /km. Night time charge applies from 24:00 to 05:00. Extra charge for every luggage heavier than 10 kg: 0.40 Taxi booking fee: 3 to 5 Per hour waiting charge: 10,46 /h

10 Venue Athens is the historical capital of Europe and capital and largest city of Greece and is one of the oldest cities in the world continuously inhabited for around 7,000 years. Of all Europe s capitals, Athens is probably the one that has changed the most in recent years. But even though Athens has become a modern metropolis, it still retains a good deal of its old small town feel. Here antiquity meets the future, and the ancient monuments form a classical backdrop to a new and trendier Athens and it is precisely these great contrasts that make the city such a fascinating place to explore. A large part of the town s historic centre has been converted into a 3-kilometre pedestrian zone (the largest in Europe), leading to the major archaeological sites ( archaeological park ), reconstructing to a large degree the ancient landscape.
