2 The 2014 Winter Olympic Games will be hosted by Sochi, Russia, a resort city that sits on the Black Sea. The opening ceremonies will kick off Feb. 7 at 11:00am. EST, and the Games will finish up on Feb. 23. Here are some of the US medal contenders. Billy A. Earned a 2nd place trophy in RC Racing up near Beach Lake, PA. Nice Work, Billy and Keep Racing! Recipe of the Month Ingredients 12 garlic cloves, peeled and sliced 1-1/2 teaspoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil 1 can (14-1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained 1 cup tomato puree 1 pint heavy whipping cream 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano 1/4 teaspoon minced fresh basil 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon pepper Directions 1. In a 3-cup baking dish, combine the garlic and oil. Cover and bake at 300 for minutes or until lightly browned. 2. In a large saucepan, bring the garlic, tomatoes and tomato puree to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 30 minutes. 3. Add the cream, oregano, basil, salt and pepper. Cool slightly. Place half of the soup at a time in a blender; cover and process until pureed. Return to the pan; heat through. Yield: about 4 cups. Mikaela Shriffin Shriffin is one to watch on the slopes. In the last year, she has claimed victories in six World Cup slalom races and is the reigning slalom World Cup champion. Shaun White In the last two Winter Games, the Olympic snowboarder took home the gold medal in the halfpipe and hopes to do so again. Meryl Davis and Charlie White Davis and White dominated the ice dancing competition at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Shani Davis In the last two Winter Games, the speed skater has taken back-to-back golds in the 1,000 meters, he may just become the first Olympian to win gold three times in a row in the same event. Sarah Hendrickson This is the first time women will be able to compete in ski jumping and Hendrickson will be looking to take the firstever Olympic gold medal in the event. At just 19 years old, she already has 13 career World Cup wins as well as 22 total podium finishes. Gracie Gold The United States loves to embrace an affable young star in women's figure skating and Gracie Gold may be the popular choice for Sochi, especially if her performance can live up to her own last name
