1 In this Issue: Recipe of the Month Coaches Corner You ve Been Spotted November Calendar Skater Spotlights Skate Regina is very excited to once again team up with the Regina Pats!!! On Saturday, December 19, the Regina Pats will host the Moose Jaw Warriors. Our youngest to our most advanced Skate Regina members are invited to skate during the intermission! All skaters who purchase tickets to the game will have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in front of friends and family. Please complete the "Skate Regina Fun Night & Fundraiser" and give your order to your coach BEFORE Monday, November 30. Throughout the first week of November, all skaters will be receiving an order form attached to their name tag. We will also send out the order form electronically in case we missed you at the rink. Thank you very much for participating in the Regina Pats Family Fun Night by purchasing tickets in support of Skate Regina!!! We greatly look forward to the exciting evening! We are excited to announce that SKATE REGINA has chosen to fundraise with Mom s Pantry! We are confident they can help us reach our fundraising goals. Mom s offers a diverse, wholesome product range that is sure to offer something for everyone. This year we waived the mandatory fundraising fee but ask for your participation in this fundraiser that is open to ALL Skate Regina members. Our most important partner in achieving our fundraising goal is you. Everyone is encouraged to participate and support our cause. Orders can be taken from friends, neighbours, co-workers and relatives. Together we can make a difference. Ordering information was sent out on Monday.

2 November is here and our programming at Skate Regina is in full swing! We hope everyone had a safe and Happy Halloween! Let me first begin by sending out a huge congratulations to Skate Regina s competitive figure skaters. October started with the annual Sask Skate/ Sask Open competition held here in Regina. This competition brings together some of the best skaters in Western Canada. There were many fantastic skates and personal achievements, along with some very exciting highlights! Rhea Renwick 5th (of 8) in Juvenile Ladies U12 (Sask Skate) Hailey Pangracs 3rd (of 8) in Juvenile Ladies U14 (Sask Skate) Koen Kucher 1st (of 9) in Pre- Novice Men (Sask Skate) Tristan Taylor 6th (of 9) in Pre-Novice Men (Sask Skate) Emma Davidson 9th (of 17) in Pre-Novice Ladies (Sask Skate) Bella McNaughton 14th (of 17) in Pre-Novice Ladies (Sask Skate) Mikaela Dumba 10th (of 12) in Pre Novice Ladies (Sask Open) Ai Lin 8th (of 15) in Novice Ladies (Sask Skate) Tanessa Morris 14 (of 19) in Novice Ladies (Sask Open) Jessica Hewison 10th (of 16) in Junior Ladies (Sask Skate) Christine LaPrairie 7th (of 7) in Senior Ladies (Sask Skate) We also had four of our skaters chosen to represent our province s High Performance Team at an out of province competition. Emma Davidson and Bella McNaughton competed at the Isabelle Henderson competition in Paris, Ont. from Sept 17th-20th. They both had great finishes with Emma placing 5th (of 14) and Bella placing 6th (of 16) in the Pre-Novice ladies category. Ai Lin and Koen Kutcher were selected to travel to Barrie,Ont. to compete at Octoberfest from Oct 14th-18th. They also had wonderful finishes with Ai placing 9th (of 15) in the Novice ladies category, and Koen placing 2nd (of 11) in the Pre-Novice men s category. Congratulations to everyone- you make our club proud!!! We would also like to wish the best of luck to all of our skaters heading to North Battleford from November 12th-15th for Skate Canada Saskatchewan s Sectional Championships! As your child/children participate in our CanSkate programming it is important for there to be a parent accessible at all times. Sitting in the bleachers is helpful for when there is an accident or a bathroom break needed. It is always encouraging to have a parent in the stands for a child just learning to skate. Smiling faces go a long way! Please make sure and check your November calendar as there may be some time/venue changes. As hockey tournaments start to happen in our city your skating times and venues unfortunately might be affected. Twice a week Memorable moment: Attending Canada Winter Games in Halifax Favorite skating move and why? Waltz jump just because they re fun Favorite Place: Grandma & Papa s cabin Other sports/activities/hobbies: soccer, ball, swimming dance, rhythmic gymnastics, Best Buddies, musical theater, and cheerleading Just another note: Victoria is also very excited about representing Saskatchewan in figure skating at the Special Olympic National Games in Corner Brook, Newfoundland this March. 7 Healthier Delicious Ham and Potato Soup 3 ½ cups peeled and diced potatoes ½ cup chopped carrots ½ cup chopped green beans 1/3 cup diced celery 1/3 cup finely chopped onion ¾ cup diced cooked ham 3 ¼ cups water 2 Tbsp chicken bouillon granules 1 tsp ground white pepper, or to taste 5 Tbsp butter 5 Tbsp all-purpose flour 2 cups nonfat milk Directions: 1. Combine potatoes, carrots, green beans, celery, onion, ham, and water in a stockpot. Bring to a boil and cook over medium heat until potatoes are tender, 10 to 15 minutes. Stir in chicken bouillon and pepper. 2. Melt butter in a separate saucepan over medium-low heat. Whisk in flour with a fork and cook, stirring constantly, until thick, about 1 minute. Slowly stir in milk so lumps do not form until all of the milk has been added. Continue stirring until thick, 4 to 5 minutes. 3. Pour the milk mixture into stockpot and cook soup until heated through, about 5 minutes. Serve immediately. SKATE REGINA 7
