3 Presidents Welcome It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Macleay District Motorcycle Club s Greenhill Speedway for the 28th running of the Akubra Classic. The Akubra Classic is our key event in the 2018 race calendar and one that has built a reputation as one of the premier events within the field of Dirt Track racing. We are fortunate to have received the support we have from local company and national icon Akubra for the past 28 years. This year we also welcome DGI Trading on board as a presenting partner of the 2018 Akubra Classic. Events of this scale don t happen without the support of all our event sponsors, riders, and all the hard work that has been put in by our committee and members. Our club has spent countless hours over the past few months to ensure we could provide a great days racing and present our venue in the best possible way to competitors and spectators alike. A special thanks to our track preparation and venue maintenance crew of Jason Loveday, Marty Chapman and Craig Gill for the work they have done in preparing for today s event has been a huge year for the MDMCC. You will have likely already noticed the Speedway Track has been rebuilt, lengthened and is ready to be relicensed. We have also received the Development Application approval required for the club to return to Grass Track racing at a new venue on Chain o Ponds Road, Collombatti. The initial work required for track licensing has been completed by volunteers within our club and support from MNSW through the clubs grant scheme. The track licencing inspections have been undertaken at the venue and we hope to be able to announce the date of the first meeting in around 4-6 weeks. These tracks and the further options they provide for our club members will see our club return to being a true multi discipline club and the return of two disciples that have a strong part within the history or our club. On behalf of the Macleay District Motorcycle Club Committee and our members, I welcome you to the 2018 Akubra Classic for what will be some of the best Dirt Track racing seen this year, as the best riders in the sport battle it out to win the most iconic prize of all, the Akubra Hat.
