2 YPSILANTI, Mich.--Charles E. Ramsey is returning home. Ramsey, an Ypsilanti native, Eastern Michigan University graduate, and former EMU assistant basketball coach, was 32 Head Coach Charles E. Ramsey named head coach of the men s basketball program at EMU, March 30, 2005, giving Ramsey his dream job. I am honored and pleased to have this opportunity to return to Eastern Michigan THE RAMSEY FAMILY: Chandler (Front), Tre, Charles, and Allison E MU BASKE TBALL University, Ramsey said. It has always been a dream of mine to have a chance to be part of this great institution. I have always had a great deal of respect for the University and the basketball program, which has had a commitment to both academics and athletics. I can truly say I am home now. For the past four seasons Ramsey has been an assistant men s basketball coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Michigan. He also served as an assistant men s basketball coach at the University of California-Berkeley ( ), Drake University ( ), Tennessee State ( ) and EMU ( ). Ramsey has enjoyed great success as an assistant coach. During his tenure as a volunteer assistant in 1991, EMU made it to the Sweet 16 of the 1991 NCAA Tournament. He then went on to help Tennessee State win the Ohio Valley Conference title and advance to the 1994 NCAA Tournament. From there he was an assistant at California where the Golden Bears gained an NCAA Sweet 16 berth in 1997, an NIT Championship in 1999, an NIT quarterfinal spot in 2000 and an NCAA Tournament selection in While an assistant at Michigan for the past four seasons, Ramsey has helped the Wolverines turn in two consecutive top 10 nationally ranked recruiting classes, and helped coach the U-M team that won the 2004 NIT Championship. The 44-year-old Ramsey ( ) is a native of Ypsilanti and graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1979 after competing in football, basketball and baseball. Ramsey went on to attend Fisk University from where he was named to the league s All-Freshman Team. He then transferred to EMU and went on to complete his undergraduate degree in 1992 with a major in sociology. While an EMU undergraduate, Ramsey was an assistant boys basketball coach at Ypsilanti H.S. from , and was a volunteer coach at EMU under Head Coach Ben Braun from He joined the EMU staff as a full-time assistant from May- Sept. 1996, before leaving to assist Braun when he became the head coach at the University of California at Berkeley. Ramsey and his wife, Allison Lester Ramsey, live in Ypsilanti with their two sons, Charles (Tre) and Chandler.

Associate Coach Derrick McDowell Derrick McDowell is in his first season as an assistant basketball coach at Eastern Michigan University. McDowell was named to the post, March 30, 2005.

McDowell enjoyed great success in his 12-year stint as the head coach at Detroit Redford, leading the team to a 194-70 record.

4 Associate Coach Derrick McDowell Derrick McDowell is in his first season as an assistant basketball coach at Eastern Michigan University. McDowell was named to the post, March 30, McDowell joins the EMU staff after turning in a highly successful high school career as well as an eight-year college coaching history. McDowell enjoyed great success in his 12-year stint as the head coach at Detroit Redford, leading the team to a record. His Redford team won the Detroit Public School League title as well as the district championship on the way to a 19-2 record. He was named the All-Metro Detroit Team Coach of the Year by The Detroit News for his efforts last season. During his tenure at Redford, McDowell was named Coach of the Year seven times by either the Detroit Free Press or The Detroit News. He was selected as Detroit Public School League Coach of the Year in and and was PSL West Division Coach of the Year in He was the regional Coach of the Year in , and was an All-Metro Detroit Coach of the Year in , , and last season. McDowell s Redford teams were state runners-up twice ( , ), made the Final Four once ( ), won three regional crowns ( , , ), captured seven district championships ( , , , , , , ), won two PSL titles ( , ), were runners-ups in the PSL three times ( , , ), and were PSL semifinalists twice ( , ). Assistant Coach Dusty May Dusty May is in his first season as an assistant basketball coach at Eastern Michigan University. He was named to the post, March 30, 2005.

6 Assistant Coach Dusty May Dusty May is in his first season as an assistant basketball coach at Eastern Michigan University. He was named to the post, March 30, May joins the EMU staff after spending the past three seasons working on the men s basketball staff at Indiana University. He was the administrative assistant for the Hoosiers last year and was the video coordinator for the previous two seasons. During his three years on the Indiana coaching staff, May helped recruit one of the nation s top classes the past two seasons. His duties included recruiting, coordinating all on-campus recruiting, and serving as the team s compliance liaison and director of camps. The 28-year-old May ( ) is a 2000 graduate of Indiana University where he spent four years as a student manager for the men s basketball team. During his undergraduate days, May assisted with the program s video coordination and also helped with summer camps. After graduating from Indiana, May left Bloomington to become an administrative assistant/video coordinator for the men s basketball program at the University of Southern California. While at USC, May was responsible for the video breakdown of opponent s film, served as director of summer camps, and helped coordinate the day-to-day operations of the men s basketball office. He also helped supervise support staff, managers, and office workers. May and his wife, Anna (Nonte), have two sons, Jack ( ), and Charlie ( ). The May Family: Jack, Dusty, Charlie and Anna. 7 Carl Thomas is in his first year as an assistant basektball coach at Eastern Michigan University. He was named to the post April 14, Thomas joined the EMU staff after serving as an assistant basketball coach at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Prior to being named to the UMES staff, Thomas played professionally in France, Sweden, Greece and Italy from He also played professionally in the NBA for Sacramento, Cleveland, Golden State, and Orlando and in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) for Fort Wayne, and Grand Rapids, from While playing in the CBA, Thomas was called up to the NBA a CBA-record five times. Thomas played 68 games over three seasons in the NBA, with stints with the Sacramento Kings (1992), Cleveland Cavaliers (1997 and 1998), Golden State Warriors (1998) and Orlando Assistant Coach Carl Thomas The Thomas Family: Front, Austin and Brandon. Carl earned four letters at EMU and finished his career with 1,179 points, 452 rebounds, 185 three-point field goals, and 249 assists.he was a second-team All-Mid- American Conference selection in The 35-year-old Thomas ( ) is a native of Lansing, Mich., where he was an outstanding basketball, football and baseball player at Lansing Everett H.S. He was named the boys basketball Player of the Year in the Capitol Conference as a senior and also helped the baseball team reach the semifinals of the Class A state tournament. Director of Operations Rich Marion Rich Marion is in his first season as the director of basketball operations for the Eastern Michigan University basketball team.

A native of Ann Arbor, Marion grew up in Saline and was an All- Southeastern Conference basketball player for the Hornets.

The 33-year-old Marion ( ) was an assistant sports information director at the University of Michigan from A native of Ann Arbor, Marion grew up in Saline and was an All- Southeastern Conference basketball player for the Hornets. He went on to complete his bachelor s degree at EMU in 1996, and then moved into the coaching ranks, serving as an assistant basketball coach at Dundee High School from Marion and his wife, Tonya, have a daughter, Jordan ( ). Ramsey was named EMU s head basketball coach this year, he became the ninth coach with Eastern Michigan University ties currently coaching in the NCAA Division I ranks. Ramsey, a 1992 EMU graduate and former EMU assistant, joins fellow EMU graduates Stan Heath (Arkansas), Jesse Evans (San Francisco), and Perry Watson (Detroit), along with former EMU coaches Ben Braun (California), Keith Dambrot (Akron), Craig Rasmuson (Northern Colorado), Gary Waters (Rutgers), and Todd Lickliter (Butler) as head coaches.
