The Dogs host Toledo on Tuesday, Sept. 27, in a made for ESPN2 game. The Bulldog and Rockets, two of the top non-bcs programs this decade, have never met. Dogs Drop From Polls After Fresno State s loss at Oregon, it fell out of the AP and USA Today Coaches Poll. Fresno State continued to receive votes in both polls. Toledo is No. 36 in this week s coaches poll while the Bulldogs dropped from No. 25 to No. 41. Toledo Talk The defending MAC Champion, Toledo is 3-0 to start the season and off to an excellent season. Toledo is ranked No. 3 in the nation in scoring offense at 53.3 points per game and 17th in total offense Senior quarterback Bruce Gradkowski is 14th in the nation in passing efficiency. Toledo has wins over Western Michigan, Western Illinois and Temple to start the season and has scored at last 42 points in each game. The margin of victory for the three wins is 106 points (35.3 ppg). The Rockets are making just their second trip to the Pacific time zone since Toledo played at UNLV in The Rockets Return to Bulldog Stadium While the Bulldogs have never played the Rockets, Toledo has played in Bulldog Stadium twice. Toledo defeated No. 20 San Jose State in the 1981 California Bowl and lost to UNLV in the 1984 Cal Bowl. UNLV later forfeited that game to Toledo for using an ineligible player in the game. Change to the Schedule With no game this week and 10 days since the Oregon game, the Bulldogs will adjust their practice and preparation schedule this week, allowing the players more time during the day for school work and will hold evening practice sessions. Check with the Fresno State media relations office for time changes. After the Toledo game, the Bulldogs will have 11 days before its next game, the WAC opener at New Mexico State Oct. 8. That means the Bulldog will play just once over a 22 day period. David Carr Day Fresno State will honor former quarterback David Carr during the Toledo game. Carr and his family will be in Fresno and the university will retired his No. 8 jersey during pregame ceremonies. Carr, who played at Fresno State from , had one of the finest seasons in NCAA history during his senior season, throwing for more than 4,000 yards and 46 touchdowns. Carr finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting and was the No. 1 overall selection of the 2002 NFL draft by the Houston Texans, where he is in his fourth season as the starting quarterback. Carr holds Fresno State career records for most touchdowns (70) and single season records for passing yards (4,839) and touchdowns (46). He guided the Bulldogs to a No. 8 national ranking, highest in school history and a school record tying 11 victories in 2001.

2 Head Coach Pat Hill All of the credit for the resurgence of Bulldog football can be traced to head coach Pat Hill. Hill took over a declining program and within three years won a championship and guided his team to a bowl game. More importantly, Hill infused academic integrity to the program. Since his arrival, the team GPA has steadily risen from a 2.21 to In Hill s third season, the Bulldogs earned a share of a WAC championship, made their first bowl appearance since 1993 and produced a leaguebest six first-team All-WAC players. In addition, Fresno State led the WAC academic scholars with 14 and produced the program s first Academic All- American, Payton Williams. That was just a start. Under his direction, FS build a new football practice facility that rivals any NFL franchise. One of the most visible signs of improvement has been in the Duncan Building training room, offices and locker room, which was modified providing all student-athletes with a state of the art complex. Hill completed his eighth season as head coach and led the Bulldogs to a No. 22 final national ranking, the highest for the school since A former assistant under Jim Sweeney, Fresno State posted a overall record during those six seasons with Hill on the staff. Since coming to Fresno State, Hill has continued his reputation as an outstanding recruiter. His first recruiting class produced four NFL draft choices including the No. 1 overall pick David Carr and four other players who signed NFL free agent contracts. Each of Hill s starting QBs at Fresno State (Billy Volek and David Carr) are playing in the NFL. In addition, he has guided the Bulldogs to six consecutive bowl games, a first in school history. He has done it playing one of the most aggressive nonconference schedules in the nation. Pat Hill's Resume 1997-present Fresno State, Head Coach 1996 Baltimore Ravens, Asst. Two of Fresno State s non-conference foes (Toledo and USC) are new to the Bulldog regular season schedule, as Fresno State has never faced either school in a regular season game. Last Game The Bulldogs were victimized by 16 penalties for 155 yards in a loss three point loss at Oregon, on Sept. 17. The Bulldogs outgained the Ducks in total offense, averaged 7.5 yards per play of offense in the game, and senior quarterback Paul Pinegar was superb throwing for a career-high 418 yards and three touchdowns. After a 17-0 Bulldog lead, the Ducks scored 20 unanswered points in the second quarter. Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere...Literally Under Pat Hill s tenure, Fresno State has taken this motto to new heights, especially where the Bulldog will play their games. Since Hill became head coach and beefed-up the Bulldog non-conference schedule, they haven t dodged anyone. In most cases, the Bulldogs have to hit the road to play BCS conference schools. Of the Bulldogs 29 non-conference games under Hill, 19 have been on the road at places like UCLA, Ohio State, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Colorado, Oklahoma, Washington, Kansas State and of course, Oregon. Fresno State has never had more than two non-conference home games under Hill, and has twice played three non-conference road games in a season. Hill Climbs Career Victory List Pat Hill s win total with the Bulldogs stands at 65, the second-most in program history. Only Jim Sweeney, for whom Hill was an assistant from , has more wins. The legendary Sweeney, who served as Fresno State s head coach from and , had 143. Bowling...Again What is becoming a staple of any Pat Hill team a strong November finish helped Fresno State put itself into a bowl game for a program-record sixth consecutive year. The Bulldogs six bowl appearances in a row is the longest streak among western U.S. schools. Entering 2004, Oregon, with eight, had made more postseason appearances consecutively than Fresno State. However, with the Ducks not being bowl eligible last year, and the Bulldogs playing in the MPC Computers Bowl, Fresno State now has the longest bowl streak among western schools. Injury Report The Bulldogs lost a couple of key players in the Oregon game. Running back and return specialist Clifton Smith suffered a knee injury and he will undergo further testing on Monday. Starting left guard Cole Popovich suffered an injury to his rib cage and will also be evaluated this week. Garrett McIntyre, who missed the Oregon game, continue to rehabilitation. Their status for the Toledo game will be determined later in the week. SI Like the Dogs Fresno State has caught the eye of Sports Illustrated, which ranked the Dogs No. 19 in their preseason poll. The magazine did a full-page spread on the Bulldogs and senior defensive end Garrett McIntyre. Additionally, SI.com has selected the Fresno State vs. Boise State game on Nov. 10 as one of the best match-ups of the college football season. That game was ranked as the 13th-best game of the season. Conference Champs on Schedule Three teams that won conference championships in 2004 dot the Bulldogs 2005 schedule. 3 Hill Hype Hill in Top 20 for Winning Percentage Pat Hill moved into an impressive list of coaches after last season, at the start of the season he was ranked No. 17 among active coaches for the best winning percentage for football coaches. Here s the current list. Top NCAA Active College Coaches By Winning Percentage Coach (Team) Yrs W-L-T Pct. 1.Bob Stoops(Oklahoma) Phillip Fulmer(Tennessee) Steve Spurrier(S. Smith(Michigan St.) Fisher DeBerry(Air Force) T. Tuberville(Auburn) Mack Brown(Texas) Pat Hill (Fresno St.) Chuck Amato (N.C. St.) Sonny Lubick(CSU) Houston Nutt(Arkansas) Dirk Koetter(Arizona St.) Scheduling Philosophy In order to gain national respect, Hill continues to select games against the nation's top programs, meaning the Bulldogs will play many games on the road in hostile environments. While scheduling is difficult, Fresno State will continue to play an aggressive schedule. This year, Fresno State plays at Oregon and two-time national champion USC. In the coming years, non-conference games against Colorado State, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Kansas State and Wisconsin have been scheduled. Building a New Tradition on the National Level In the 1970 s, Florida State was an emerging college football power. This is the model Pat Hill uses and talks about with his players. In the 1980 s, Miami (Fla.) emerged on the national scene. Then in the 1990 s, Virginia Tech rose from obscurity to become a national championship contender. Hill's goal is to make the Bulldogs the team of the 2000 s. He will settle for nothing less than to become a perennial top 25 program and to be considered for a BCS bowl game. Over the last five seasons, Fresno State s 10 wins over BCS opponents ranks best among non-bcs schools and the Bulldog s as does the total number of BCS opponents (16). Pat Hill Show on KMJ Radio Head football coach Pat Hill can be heard Mondays at 1 p.m. on KMJ radio (580 AM) on the Pat Hill Show. The show is live from Fresno Distributing and hosted by Bill Woodward, the Voice of the Bulldogs. Hill will take questions from fans. Pat Hill Coaches Corner on KMPH Head coach Pat Hill can be seen on the Coaches Corner each Monday evening of the season on the KMPH 10 O clock News. Hill and host Ralh Wood will discuss the upcoming Bulldog game. Note of Note Fresno State is 16-5 in it s last 21 games dating back to the 2003 season. Two of those losses were to nationally-ranked opponents. The Dogs are 8-1 at home in that span. Not One, Not Two, But a Three-Headed Monster in 2005 Fresno State s backfield in 2005 should be one of the nation s best, featuring two players who have produced 1,000-yard seasons and a third who was just five yards shy of 1,000 yards in The Bulldogs have the two top returning rushing leaders in the WAC in senior Bryson Sumlin and junior Wendell Mathis, a duo that combined for 2,099 yards and 25 touchdowns last season. He would become the 11th player in school history to reach that total. He needs 100 yards to pass James Williams ( ) for 10th on the career rushing record list. Mathis Motors There are few backs in the country who are making the most of their opportunities that Bulldog senior Wendell Mathis. Mathis emerged midway through the 2004 season and finished the year just five years shy of 1,000 yards year while leading the WAC in average yards per carry at nearly seven per tote. 4 Fresno State Facts Bulldog Stadium at Jim Sweeney Field Since taking over Bulldog Stadium in 1980, Fresno State has one of the best home records in college football. One of the most beautiful stadiums in the Western Athletic Conference, Bulldog Stadium underwent a two-phase expansion project in 1991, increasing seating by 10,000 to a capacity of 41,031 and adding 22 sky suites. Jim Sweeney was Fresno State s head coach ( , ) who won eight conference championships, five bowl game titles and guided the Bulldogs to a record and won 200 games as a college coach, 16th most in NCAA history. Fresno State at Bulldog Stadium Overall (.808) WAC Record 42-9 (.824) (.817) (.779) 2000-p 23-4 (.852) Academic Gameplan Since Pat Hill took over the Fresno State program, the Bulldogs have become national leaders in academic success. One of Hill's first tasks was hiring John Baxter as associate head coach. Baxter's trademarked Academic Gameplan is a proven winner across the nation. In the third year of Academic Gameplan, the football program produced a WACbest 14 scholar-athletes, the school s first Academic All-American and the number of honored athletes at the annual Kiwanis Torch of Excellence dinner grew from four to 33. The team's GPA was raised from 2.12 to 2.77 in three seasons. Academic Gameplan has been featured in many publications, including the Dec. 20, 1999, issue of Sports Illustrated. Academic Gameplan is used by Oregon, Washington State, Southern Miss and Notre Dame. Since 1997, the Bulldogs have produced 65 Academic All-WAC performers, more than any team in the league during that period. Fresno State s Academic Progress Rate (APR) of 939 was the fourth-highest among schools in the west. Only Stanford, Air Force and Utah has higher scores than the Bulldogs. V is for Valley Fresno State prides itself on being the Valley s team. This pride can be seen in the form of a large green V on the back of the Bulldog helmets as a symbol to the agricultural community of Central Valley of California. The San Joaquin Valley is the world s richest agricultural valley in export dollars. The Bulldog Foundation Fresno State s famous Bulldog Foundation has been the No. 1 fund-raising organization in the nation for 20 consecutive years. This volunteer organization raises over $7 million annually for the Fresno State Athletics Department. The BDF is headed by executive director Pat Ogle, the 1996 National Fundraiser of the Year. The monies raised by the BDF go towards scholarships, recruiting and special needs of the athletics department. Fresno State Identification The official name of the school is California State University, Fresno. For athletics department purposes, the University prefers to be called simply Fresno State never Fresno State University. For graphics or abbreviations, we ask that you please use FS not FSU or CSUF. Pinegar Lead WAC, Among NCAA Leaders Senior quarterback Paul Pinegar is off to an excellent start of the season. Through two games, he leads the WAC in total offense, passing efficiency and touchdowns. He ranks sixth in the NCAA in pass efficiency (184.4) and is 10th in total offense (323.0). Pinegar set a University of Oregon Autzen Stadium record by completing 33 passes and established a career high of 418 passing yards in the Dogs loss to the Ducks. It was the first 400- yard passing game for Fresno State since the 2001 season. He has 458 yards of total offense against Oregon, the sixth-best total in Fresno State history. Pinegar Among Program Best Fresno State has been blessed with some outstanding signal callers who have produced in many ways. One way a quarterback is judged is how effective a leader he is and in how he helps his team win. Junior Paul Pinegar is in excellent company in that regard, winning 75 percent of the games he has started, the second-best number in program history. Pinegar has several quality wins, including No. 13 Kansas State, No. 18 Virginia, No. 22 Colorado State, Washington, Georgia Tech and UCLA, the latter two coming in bowl games. In fact, Pinegar is 3-0 in bowl games and 6-3 against BCS opponents, including four wins in a row. However, neither Michigan nor Florida State have had a quarterback taken in the top 10 picks of the NFL draft since 1990, while Fresno State has produced two. Here are some other QB University Notes (since 1990): Both of Pat Hill s two starting quarterbacks are in the NFL (Billy Volek and David Carr). Fresno State is one of three schools (Washington State and Tennessee are the others) to have one quarterback taken as the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft and another selected in the top 10. Of those, only Fresno State s quarterbacks are both still active. Fresno State is one of five schools (Tennessee, Washington State, Oregon and Houston are the others) to have two QB s selected among the top 10 NFL Draft picks. Of those, only Fresno State s are still active. Fresno State s Trent Dilfer is the only top 10 drafted quarterback since 1990 to win a Super Bowl. There have been 18 quarterbacks taken in the top 10 picks of the NFL Draft since 1990, and Fresno State has produced two of them. Of the last five quarterbacks taken as NFL No. 1 overall pick, only Fresno State s David Carr started the first game of his rookie season. Fresno State s three current NFL quarterbacks David Carr, Houston Texas (No. 1 NFL Draft pick) Trent Dilfer, Cleveland Browns (No. 6 NFL Draft pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) Billy Volek, Tennessee Titans (NFL record for most consecutive 400-yard passing games in 2004) Penalty Troubles Fresno State s 16 penalties for 155 yards against Oregon were the second most in school history and by far the most by the Dogs in the Pat Hill era. For the season, Fresno State has committed 27 penalties for 267 yards. Fresno State is averaging penalty yards per game. Last season, the Bulldogs averaged juts 7.7 penalties per contest. Getting Defensive It wasn t only the Fresno State offense that was producing during the team s season-finishing six-game winning streak. Defensively, the Bulldogs played very well down the stretch, allowing only 16.0 points per game in the final five regular season games. Fresno State ranked first in the WAC and 31st nationally in scoring defense despite playing teams ranked second, eighth, 16th, 35th and 43rd in the nation in scoring offense. Leaders of the WAC Through two games of the 2005 season, the Bulldogs are leading the WAC in the following statistical categories. Total Offense: ypg (22) Punt Returns: 31.8 avg. (3) Scoring Offense: 44.5 (13) Passing Offense: ypg (10) Rushing Defense: ypg (47) Scoring Defense: 27.0 rating (72) Pass Efficiency: rating (3) (national rank) Rocket Richard Richard Marshall is making a habit out of making big plays on defense. The sophomore cornerback had a 100-yard interception return against Rice on Nov. 6, the second time of last year he took back an INT for a score. Marshall has three interception returns for touchdowns in his career, already a program record. His two TDs scored place him fourth on Fresno State in that category. In addition, Marshall has totaled 61 tackles, the third-best number on the team, as well as three interceptions, tied with James Sanders for tops among Bulldogs. Marshall s 205 interception was a single-season record, and his career total of 288 is within shouting distance of the program record of 340, set by Rod Webster ( ). Finally, Marshall s career interception return average is 47.5, the best in program history.

6 Fresno State Football at a Glance As head coach Pat Hill embarks on his ninth season at the helm of the Bulldogs, certain facets of his program have become familiar not only in the San Joaquin Valley, but nationwide as well. Here is a look at some of the more familiar aspects of Fresno State football: Graduation Rates and NCAA APR When Pat Hill took over at Fresno State, the graduation rate for the football program was 25 percent. In 2002, Hill's first recruiting class and first graduating class had a graduation rate of 64 percent. Here are some more facts about the football program and it s academic success: Fresno State s recently released NCAA APR of 939 ranked higher than the national average of 921 and was the highest among WAC schools. Fresno State s APR after the fall semester 2004 rose to 958. The Bulldogs have produced 65 Academic All- WAC selections since Hill became head coach, the second-most in the conference. Prior to Hill s arrival, the Bulldogs had produced only nine Academic All-WAC players. No player in the current roster has a GPA lower than 2.0. Fresno State had 49 of 103 football players achieve a 3.0 GPA or better last season, most in school history. In actuality, nothing is further from the truth. In July 2002, Fresno State instituted a new policy prohibiting the recruitment and signing of non-qualifiers beginning with the academic year. There were only four non-qualifiers remaining on the 2005 Bulldog roster. BCS Business Under Pat Hill, Fresno State has scheduled aggressively in the non-conference season, playing as many games against BCS Conference opponents as any other school. The Bulldogs have enjoyed some success against those teams as of late, going 6-2 in their last eight contests against BCS schools, with the only losses coming at No. 12 Tennessee and No. 1 Oklahoma. The 2005 schedule is no different with Oregon and USC on the schedule. Mac s Attack One of the great stories of Pat Hill s tenure at Fresno State is that of senior defensive tackle Garrett McIntyre. A linebacker at South Lake Tahoe (Calif.) High School, McIntyre went virtually unrecruited as a prepster, eventually landing with the Bulldogs as a walk-on. But he immediately made an impression on Hill by owning what Hill describes as, a motor that doesn t stop. As a true freshman, McIntyre played in 12 games and was vital down the stretch during a year that Fresno State defeated Georgia Tech in the Silicon Valley Football

7 Fresno State Facts Facility Improvements Fresno State s athletics department recently completed some facility projects, the Ricchiuti Academic Center and the expansion to the Duncan Building. The Ricchiuti Academic Center provides study tables, tutorial and computer labs, plus new coaching offices for the women s soccer team. The Duncan Building includes new coaching offices, team meeting rooms, a new Bulldog locker room and a theatre-style auditorium. Dogs Post Eight Year GPA High Fresno State s athletics department has posted 2.91 cumulative GPA for the academic year, the highest mark in eight year. The Bulldog Athletic department encompasses 18 teams and nearly 600 student-athletes. Bulldogs in the NFL Fresno State s football program continues to rank among the nations best at producing National Football League players, as 15 former Bulldogs are on NFL rosters. That figure leads the WAC for the second consecutive season and ranks 42nd among the 247 colleges and universities that have alumni playing in the NFL. Fresno State s total ranks second-best among non-bcs schools and is as high or higher than several notable BCS programs such as Iowa, Oregon, Virginia, Arkansas, Clemson, North Carolina State, Oregon State, Oklahoma State, Minnesota, Texas Tech, Iowa State, Missouri and Kentucky. Leading the non- BCS schools is Southern Mississippi with 16 NFL players, followed by Fresno State with 15. Last season, 13 former Bulldogs played in the NFL. Fresno State s again leads all WAC schools with the most NFL players. Hawai i ranks second with nine and Louisiana Tech is next with eight. Rounding out the WAC schools are UTEP (6), Boise State (5), Rice (4), San Jose State (4), Tulsa (4), Nevada (3) and SMU (1). The three incoming WAC schools combined to produce 12 NFL players, led by Idaho with six, Utah State with five and New Mexico State with one. The Bulldogs were also the best among western non-bcs schools. BYU and San Diego State each have 14, six more than Utah and Colorado State, which had eight each. UNLV has five, while New Mexico and TCU each have four players in the NFL. In 2005, two Bulldogs were selected in the NFL Draft, including OT Logan Mankins (1st round to New England) and SS James Sanders (4th round to New England). Five other Bulldog seniors signed NFL free agent contracts: TE Duncan Reid (Dallas Cowboys); K Brett Visintainer (Dallas Cowboys); DE Claude Sanders (Dallas Cowboys); TE Stephen Spach (Philadelphia Eagles); TE Mark Wood (Jacksonville Jaguars). Classic. As a sophomore, he started all 14 games, finishing with 12.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks. He capped his big season by being named the Defensive MVP of the 2003 SVFC win over UCLA. McIntyre s 2004 campaign has been even better. He was a first-team All-WAC honoree after racking up seven sacks (fifth in the WAC) and 10.5 tackles for losses. McIntyre wound up the regular season sixth on the team with 46 tackles. His 18 career sacks rank seventh-best in program history. The 2005 Preseason WAC Defensive Player of the Year selection is also getting it done in the classroom. He has twice been selected to the Academic All-WAC team and was one of four players from 2004 named to the All-WAC first team and Academic All-WAC squad. He is a legitimate All-America and Academic All- America candidate in his senior season. Follow McIntyre s season on his special web page on Year GP-GS UT AT TT TFL-Yards Sacks-Yards Totals * - McIntyre suffered an ankle sprain against Weber State and did not play the fourth quarter. Shack Back to Left Tackle One of the biggest holes to fill on the Bulldog offense in 2005 will be left tackle, where All- American Logan Mankins graduated. Fresno State will turn that spot over to Dartangon Shack, but he s no stranger to replacing Mankins. As a sophomore he was a second-team All-WAC selection in 2003 replacing Mankins, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in preseason camp. While protecting the quarterback s back side, he started all 14 games and was simply dominating despite playing the first half of the season with a severely sprained ankle. Shack has started 26 consecutive games, including all 12 last season at right guard. Here are a few of his notable performances as a left tackle from 2003: vs. Tennessee s Constantin Ritzman (First-team All-SEC) -- Two total tackles, one sack for eight yards. vs. Oklahoma s Dan Cody (First-team All-Big 12) -- One tackle. vs. Nevada s Jorge Cordova (midseason All-American and WAC Sack and TFL leader). -- Five total tackles, no tackles for losses, no sacks vs. UCLA s Dave Ball (First-team All-American, Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year, national sack leader, Chevrolet National Defensive Player of the Year). -- Five total tackles, no tackles for losses, no sacks. Many Happy Returns Fresno State s special teams have established themselves as one of the nation s best units. Not only are the Bulldogs exceptional at blocking kicks, but they are also a threat to put points on the board every time they take the field. Since Pat Hill took over in 1997, Fresno State has scored 19 touchdowns on special teams and has racked up three safeties. Below is a breakdown of the Bulldogs special teams scoring history: 10 punt returns for TDs (last: Sept. 10, 2005, two by Clifton Smith vs. Weber State) 3 kickoff returns for TDs (last: Sept. 27, 2003, by Nate Ray vs. Portland State) 6 blocked punts/fgs returned for TDs (last: Nov. 15, 2003 vs. San Jose State) 3 team special teams safeties (last: Oct. 4, 2002, vs. Colorado State) Mr. Smith Goes to the House There has not been a more exciting and electric player in recent Bulldog history than sophomore running back Clifton Smith and he has yet to take a handoff. Smith s explosiveness made him one of the premier high school players in the Valley. He put on a showcase in the opener against Weber State taking two punt returns over 80 yards to the endzone and setting an NCAA record. Smith now has three career punt returns for touchdowns and has done it in with only six return opportunities. Here s some more Clifton Smith data. NCAA single game record for punt return yardage (63.0 avg.) School record 189 punt return yards vs. Weber State on three returns NCAA leader in average per return (63.0) Fresno State record two punt returns for touchdowns in a single game Averaging 54.3 yards per punt return in his career on six returns TD punt returns for touchdown of 92, 84 and 67 yards Has touched the ball 12 times in his career and is averaging 36.3 yards per tote. Has scored touchdowns on half of his career punt returns (3-of-6)

9 35 More on HIll Hill and the NFL Pat Hill s experience in the NFL has been a staple of Fresno State s continued success of sending players to the professional ranks. Hill gained famed as one of the top personnel evaluators in the NFL during his five-year tenure with the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens. Hill s NFL experience is chronicled below: Recruited and coached NFL No. 1 Draft Pick David Carr and 2005 first-round pick Logan Mankins. Fresno State had a WAC leading four NFL picks in Four other players signed NFL free agent contracts that year. Hill s two senior starting quarterbacks are in the NFL (Carr and Billy Volek, Tennessee Titans). In his eight seasons, he has produced 28 NFL players. In his eight seasons, he has produced 13 NFL draft picks. Two members of his coaching staff have NFL coaching experience, offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti and running backs coach John Settle. Hill vs. the Competition Following is a breakdown of Pat Hill s record since arriving at Fresno State in 1997: WAC (current membership) Boise State Hawaii Idaho Louisiana Tech Nevada New Mexico State San Jose State Utah State Non-Conference Air Force Brigham Young California Colorado Colorado State Georgia Tech Kansas State Michigan State New Mexico Ohio State Oklahoma Oklahoma State Oregon Oregon State Portland State San Diego State Tennessee TCU Texas Tech UCLA UNLV Utah Utah State Virginia Washington Weber State Wisconsin Wyoming Totals Longest Winning Streaks Under Hill Longest WAC Winning Streaks Under Hill , 2004-p , Where are the Seniors? Despite 17 returning starters, Fresno State does not have many senior starters on the Bulldog squad. In fact, compared to the rest of the nation, Fresno State s lack of senior starters is unique. The Bulldogs expect to start just six seniors in the opener against Weber State, the second lowest figure of any team in the country. Of the teams that start seven seniors or fewer, only Arizona State, Florida State and Fresno State are ranked in the AP preseason Top 25. Least Amount Of Senior Starters In The Country 1. Cincinnati-5 UCF-5 Illinois-5 4. Fresno State-6 Navy-6 Wake Forest-6 Connecticut-6 Florida State-6 9. Tulsa-7 Arizona State-7 Baylor-7 Louisiana-Lafayette-7 Novembers to Remember When the calendar turned from October to November, the smiles on the faces of the Fresno State players were easy to see. The Bulldogs went 1-3 in October, with consecutive losses to Louisiana Tech, UTEP and Boise State. However, as has been their custom under Pat Hill, the team played very well in November, winning all four of their games in blowout fashion. Since 2000, Fresno State is 20-2 in post-october regular season games, including wins in 19 of the last 20 overall and nine in a row on the road. Here is a look at Fresno State s success in the year s 11th month: Year Started Finished Final Record Note First non-losing season since Only losing season under Hill * 8-5 WAC co-champs; played in Las Vegas Bowl * 7-3 Played in Silicon Valley Football Classic * 11-3 Played in Silicon Valley Football Classic Beat Georgia Tech in bowl game Beat UCLA in bowl game Won 19 of last 20 post-oct. reg. season games * Record reflects finish to regular season and does not include bowl game MAC and WAC The Bulldogs are 9-4 against teams from the Mid-American Conference all-time. Fresno State has not played a MAC team since joining the WAC in The Bulldogs last played a MAC team in 1991, losing to Bowling Green in Cal Bowl XI. What s Up in Ohio? Other than hiring former Ohio athletics director Thomas Boeh, Fresno State has not had a lot in common with the state of Ohio. The Bulldogs have played only two schools from the state of Ohio, which next to Texas, has the most Division I-A programs of any state in the nation. Fresno State has played Bowling Green five times, and owns a 3-2 all-time record, and played Ohio State twice, most recently in Three of the Bowling Green contest were, fittingly, in bowl games.
