Tipoff between the Bucs and the Yellow Jackets is set for 7 p.m. at McCamish Pavilion. CSU is coming off a win over Southern Wesleyan on Friday. The Bucs previously defeated Columbia International on Wednesday, Georgia Tech is fresh off a loss at Georgia on Sunday. The Yellow Jackets previously defeated UT Arlington, 80-52, on December 10. 4 NOTES New Record Charleston Southern s 11 blocked shots against Columbia International established a new school single game record, topping the mark of 10 set in three separate games. The Bucs reached 10 blocked shots against Paine in 2015, UNC Asheville in 2008 and Benedict in Bucs Blowouts CSU scored a total of 185 points in back-to-back games against Columbia International and Southern Wesleyan. It was the most points the Bucs have scored in back-to-back contests since scoring 188 in wins over Trinity Baptist and Clearwater in Burns Career Night Junior guard Rachel Burns scored a career-high 28 points in a win over Columbia International. Burns shot from the field and 4-5 from the three-point line. The Gainesville, Va. native added six rebounds, five steals and an assist. Dobson s Double-Double Senior guard Shauntavia Dobson recorded the first double-double of her collegiate career in a win over Columbia International. Dobson had 11 points and ten assists while adding three rebounds and a steal. Cassell s Double-Double Junior guard Lexii Cassell recorded the first double-double of her CSU career in a win over Southern Wesleyan. Cassell scored a career-high 12 points and had ten rebounds. Nelms Scoring Touch Junior guard Njeri Nelms leads CSU in scoring this season with 11.1 points per game. The Pensacola, Fla. native leads the team with 18 three-pointers made and ranks second in the Big South with a 45.0% three-point field goal percentage. She is third in the league in field goal percentage (48.1%). Wilbanks Double-Digit Scoring Streak Junior forward Shelby Wilbanks has scored in double-digits in three straight games. Wilbanks scored a careerhigh 20 points against South Carolina State. The Falkner, Miss. native had 13 points and added five rebounds in a win over Columbia International. She scored ten points and had seven rebounds in a win over Southern Wesleyan. Dumorne s Blocking is Tops in Big South Junior forward Weknyne Dumorne leads the Big South in blocked shots per game (2.9). Dumorne tied her career-high with five blocks against South Carolina State. Burns All-Around Game Junior guard Rachel Burns leads the Bucs this season with 6.8 rebounds per game. Burns is second at CSU with 2.3 assists per game. She ranks first in the Big South with 2.4 steals per game and third in the league with 3.3 offensive rebounds per game. Among the Big South s Best Charleston Southern ranks third in the Big South in scoring offense with 65.7 points per game. CSU is fourth in the league in scoring defense, allowing 57.7 points per game. The Bucs are also second in the Big South in scoring margin (+8.0). CSU is third in the conference in field goal percentage defense (35.4%) and third in three-point field goal percentage (33.9%). Charleston Southern ranks second in the Big South in blocked shots per game (4.7). The Bucs are third in the league in assists per game (14.2) and second in steals per game (8.4). CSU ranks second in the Big South in turnover margin (+3.67). Facing the ACC Charleston Southern faces its second ACC opponent this season when the Bucs travel to play at Georgia Tech. CSU fell to Clemson on December 2 at Littlejohn Coliseum. Charleston Southern has been defeated in its last seven meetings with ACC opponents. The Bucs lost to North Carolina (2016), Clemson (2015), Virginia (2015), North Carolina (2013), N.C. State (2012) and Wake Forest (2012). The last win for CSU over an ACC foe was when the Bucs defeated Clemson in 2011.

5 NOTES Scouting Georgia Tech Georgia Tech is led in scoring by Francesca Pan with 14.2 points per game. Zaire O Neil also leads the Yellow Jackets with 9.4 points per game, while Chanin Scott is averaging 8.3 points per game. Elo Edeferioka paces Georgia Tech with 5.3 rebounds per game, while Imani Tilford is averaging 3.0 assists per game. The only common opponent so far this season between Georgia Tech and Charleston Southern is South Carolina State. The Yellow Jackets defeated S.C. State, 86-40, on November 12 while CSU fell to the Bulldogs, 60-58, on December 11. Lexii Cassell paced five Bucs in double figures with a career-high 12 points and ten rebounds. Weknyne Dumorne also posted a career night with 12 points, while Njeri Nelms, Tierra Steede and Shelby Wilbanks were all in double-digits with ten points apiece. A total of 12 players scored for Charleston Southern, which shot 52.9% from the field and 50.0% from the three-point line. It was the first time this season that the Bucs eclipsed 50% in both field goal and three-point percentage. An early 9-0 CSU run put the Bucs ahead 14-4 on a Dumorne layup with 5:18 left in the first quarter. Charleston Southern didn t slow down from there as a Burns trifecta gave CSU a 21-8 lead. Shauntavia Dobson had a steal on one end and a layup on the other end to make it 24-8 at the end of the first frame. CSU s lead grew to following a Nelms jumper with 5:04 to go in the second period. Southern Wesleyan cut the lead to on a Breanna Richardson jumper, but the Bucs regained the momentum and Steede made a layup with three seconds left to put CSU ahead at halftime. Charleston Southern picked up where it left off in the second half as the Bucs held a advantage after a Wilbanks jumper. Wilbanks connected on a three-pointer with 20 seconds on the clock as CSU led at the end of the third stanza. The Bucs cruised to the win in the final frame as Kailya Jackson scored eight points in the fourth quarter to pace CSU in closing out the win. Central University M.S., Therapeutic Recreation, 1989 Coaching Experience Assistant Coach University of North Carolina Assistant Coach University of Houston Head Coach Hampton University Assistant Coach University of Texas Associate Head Coach Wake Forest University Assistant Coach University of Washington Assistant Coach East Carolina University 2012-present Head Coach Charleston Southern University Eighth Year Head Coach (30th Year Coaching Overall) Fred Applin begins his sixth season as the head coach of the CSU women s basketball team after assuming the mantle of the 15th coach in program history in 2012 after serving as an assistant with both the East Carolina and Wake Forest programs. His fifth season with CSU saw the Bucs advance to the postseason for the first time since Charleston Southern advanced to the Women s Basketball Invitational (WBI) after making an appearance in the Big South Conference Championship semifinals. His fourth season with the Buccaneers saw redshirt junior guard Alyssa Mann cap earn Big South Conference Women s Basketball Championships All-Tournament Team honors after averaging 18.0 points per game and shooting 53.8% from the floor. In his first season with the Buccaneers, CSU persevered through a rash of early injuries in earning a bid to the 2013 Big South Conference Championships. Senior forward Lakeitha Alston capped off her career in earning Second Team All-Conference honors for the Buccaneers in Applin s first season, finishing up with averaging 15.8 points per game and 6.7 rebounds per game to lead the Bucs in both categories. Applin boasts in impressive resume with experience in the ACC, Big 12, Pac 12 and Conference USA. He arrives in Charleston after spending two seasons in Greenville, N.C., where he was an assistant under head coach Heather Macy at East Carolina University. Applin served as the recruiting coordinator for the Pirates, corresponding with potential student-athletes, parents and high school and AAU coaches. He also assisted in all areas of the program, including scouting, coaching, academic support and game preparation. Prior to his time in Greenville, Applin was an assistant at the University of Washington, where he also served as the recruiting coordinator. His 2008 recruiting class was ranked in the top 15 for HoopGurlz.com and was ranked one of the top five in the then-pac-10 by the same organization. From , Applin was the Associate Head Coach at Wake Forest University, where his recruiting classes were also highly touted. In 2006, his recruits ranked in the top 30 by Blue Star Basketball Report and in the top 25 of All-Star Girls Report s rankings. He also helped guide the Demon Deacons to the Elite 8 of the 2005 WNIT. While serving as an assistant at the University of Texas ( ), Applin signed three McDonald All-Americans (Nina Norman, Tiffany Jackson and Kalee Carey) as well as four Women s Basketball Coaches Association/Nike All- Americans (Norma, Jackson, Carey and Erneisha Bailey). Three of his players Jamie Carey, Jackson and Edwina Brown went on to play in the WNBA. Applin, who served as the head women s basketball coach at Hampton University from , spent the first five years of his career at the University of North Carolina. While in Chapel Hill, Applin was responsible for signing big-name recruits like Sylvia Crawley, Tonya Sampson and Marion Jones to play for the Tar Heels. A member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the WBCA and Black Coaches Association, Applin dedicates time to his teams academic and community service efforts as well. 8 Charleston Southern Coaching Staff Bios JILL POE Associate Head Coach (West Virginia, 1989) Fourth Year at CSU Jill Poe is in her fourth season with the Buccaneers after joining the Charleston Southern women s basketball staff in the fall of She primarily works with the post players. In her third season with the Bucs, Poe helped guide CSU to a postseason appearance in the Women s Basketball Invitational (WBI) and an appearance in the 2017 Big South semifinals. Poe helped lead the Buccaneers to a win over the Liberty in the 2017 Big South Quarterfinals for CSU s first-ever victory over Liberty in the conference tournament. In her second season with the Bucs, Poe developed Monique Maximilien and Elyse Kiploks into two of the top shot blockers and rebounders in the Big South Conference with the duo sitting among the conference leaders in the category throughout the season, while also developing and working with Breanna Saunders as the Bucs post players reached new heights in the Fred Applin era. During her first season with the Bucs, Poe developed Monique Maximilien into one of the premier shot blockers and rebounders in the Big South Conference. She also developed and worked with Brianna Lakes and Rochelle Brophy, improving their skill sets as the trio out-performed their previous seasons. Poe comes to the Bucs after spending two seasons at East Carolina. Prior to ECU, she served as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Maine during the season. She owns 21 years of experience at the Division I level as an assistant and head coach, with an emphasis on developing post players. She made two trips to the NCAA tournament as a head coach and has been part of the WNIT two times as an assistant. In two seasons at ECU, Poe helped guide the Pirates to a pair of consecutive 20-plus win seasons for the first time since 1986 and helped propel East Carolina to its first-ever back-to-back postseason appearances. With Poe on the bench, the Pirates set the longest home winning streak in program history as they won an impressive 26 straight contests with three All-Conference selections in Celeste Stewart (2013), Jada Payne (2014) and Abria Trice (2014). In addition to the Pirates success on the court, they also earned the Conference USA Academic Award for the highest team grade point average in back-to-back years. Poe was responsible for the scouting of all opponents, post player development, scheduling, and day-to-day operations of the East Carolina women s basketball program. In two decades of coaching, Poe has coached at least one allconference post player at every institution in which she has worked. Additionally, she has coached seven players who have gone on to play professionally in Korie Hlede and Candace Futrell of the WBNA as well as Shiri Sharon, Selma Delibasic, Beth Swink, Martha White, and Samantha Baronowski who have played in the European League. During her first year with the Pirates, Poe was a key component in helping East Carolina to its first trip to the Women s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) since 2010 after ECU finished the year with a overall record. The Pirates, picked to finish finished 11th, finished Conference USA action with an 11-5 mark en route to earning a No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, their highest-ever seeding. ECU went on to garner a First Team All-Conference selection in Celeste Stewart and an All-Defensive selection in Britny Edwards, while Kristine Mial was named C-USA Sixth Player of the Year. As the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Maine, Poe was instrumental in bringing in the 36th-ranked recruiting class in the nation, according to Blue Star Basketball. Her recruiting class was also tops in the America East Conference. The nine-member haul was also rated 57th overall by the Collegiate Girl s Basketball Report. On the court, the Black Bears advanced to the conference tournament and captured the program s first postseason win since 2006 as Poe mentored two all-conference players and an all-rookie selection. Prior to her success at Maine, Poe served as director of video services and scouting for East Carolina during the campaign. In that role, Poe was responsible for the film breakdown for all opponents, produced scouting reports for coaches and players and assisted the staff with day-to-day operations. Poe got her start in the coaching ranks as a student assistant to Kittie Blakemore and Bill Fiske as an undergraduate student at West Virginia University. She also worked in the communications and journalism fields. After graduation, she was a middle and high school educator and coach in Northern Virginia for eight years. Having earned a B.S. in Physical Education from West Virginia University in 1989, Poe has devoted an abundance of time in a variety of clinics throughout her years of coaching including participating in YES (Youth Education through Sports) events and Coaches vs. Cancer clinics. Poe has served as a voter for the Women s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and USA Today top 25 polls from and is a member of the WBCA. BRAD CHILDERS Assistant Coach (Lenoir-Rhyne, 2007) Second Year at CSU Brad Childers enters his second season with the Buccaneers women s basketball team after joining the staff in the summer of His first season with CSU saw the Bucs advance to the postseason for the first time since Charleston Southern advanced to the Women s Basketball Invitational (WBI) after making an appearance in the 2017 Big South semifinals. Childers helped guide the Buccaneers to a win over the Liberty in the 2017 Big South Quarterfinals for CSU s first-ever victory over Liberty in the conference tournament. Childers comes from Armstrong State University where he spent the season as the recruiting coordinator for the Pirates. Among his responsibilities with ASU included: Scouting Director, Individual Skills Director, Offensive Post Coordinator, Defensive Game Strategy, Game Scheduling and Camp Organizer. During his year with the Pirates, Armstrong State made marked improvements as Childers helped guide the team to a record, a three-game improvement from the season. The Pirates tied the record for the best start in program history (8-0), and improved from 13th to 3rd in defensive field goal percentage under Childers tutelage. Prior to Armstrong State, Childers was the head coach at East Georgia State College from The Bobcats improved their record in each of the three seasons Childers was there, and qualified for the Region Playoffs in both the and seasons. During his tenure at EGSC, 11 players moved on to play at four year basketball institutions. Childers is no stranger to the Big South Conference, serving as an assistant coach on the Winthrop women s basketball staff from During his time with the Eagles, Winthrop advanced to the postseason for the first time in program history as the team earned a berth into the WNIT in the season. He also helped five players move onto pro careers overseas during his time at Winthrop. Childers graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 2007 with a B.A. in Mathematics, and completed his Masters of Art and Teaching of Secondary Math Education from Winthrop University in 2010.

9 Charleston Southern Coaching Staff Bios DEION CRAIG Assistant Coach (Coker, 2016) First Year at CSU Deion Craig enters his first season as Charleston Southern women s basketball assistant coach. Craig comes to CSU from Western Kentucky University where he assisted the women s basketball team and was a former player at Coker College and East Georgia State College. Craig was a practice player for the WKU women s basketball team that won the regular season and Conference USA tournament championship and made an NCAA tournament appearance. He received a scholarship to play at Coker College in Hartsville, S.C. and was a member of the men s basketball team from Prior to playing at Coker, Craig received a scholarship to play at East Georgia State College and was a member of the team from He was a part of the 2013 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association regular season and conference championship team that made it to the Elite Eight of the National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament. Craig graduated from Coker College in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education with a concentration in Exercise Science. He is currently pursuing a Master s in Intercollegiate Athletic Administration from Western Kentucky University and is expected to graduate in May of ELYSE KIPLOKS Director of Basketball Operations (Charleston Southern, 2017) First Year at CSU Elyse Kiploks enters her first season as Charleston Southern s Director of Basketball Operations. A two-year starter for the Buccaneers women s basketball team, Kiploks led the Big South in in defensive rebounds per game (5.6). She was third in the Big South in blocked shots per game (1.3), fourth in the league in rebounds per game (7.3) and fourth in minutes played (1,094). Kiploks joined the Bucs from Melbourne, Australia, where she lined up at both forward positions at the Sports Education Development Australia. She also played for the Sandringham Sabres club team.
