2 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK OFFENSIVE DEFENSIVE SPECIAL TEAMS Connor Kacsor, Dayton Senior (RS) Running Back Leo, Indiana Kacsor became the first FCS running back with two 200-yard rushing performances this season, rushing for 229 yards in Dayton s nonconference win against Kennesaw State, Saturday. With the Flyers trailing 20-7 to early in the second quarter, he ran for three touchdowns in the next 26 minutes to give Dayton the lead. Kacsor finished with 44 carries, making him the only running back in FCS a 40-carry outing (he has two this season). His 229-yard rushing performance pushed him to the top of the FCS rushing chart (181.7 ypg). His four tackles for loss are seventh most in a FCS game this season and led a Bulldogs defense that held Stetson to a school-record low zero net rushing yards (178 total yards). Marrin set the tone with his first two stops, a two-yard tackle for loss then a six-yard sack to help stall Stetson s gameopening drive. He finished with two sacks as part of a six-tackle (four solo) performance. He punted just four times but all four punts went for more than 40 yards, including a 50-yard punt on his final attempt. Three of those punts were fair caught (two inside the 20-yard line) and the lone return was fumbled and led to a Drake touchdown. Bohnert also handled kickoff duties with eight kicks and made two tackles to stop long kickoff returns. 3 KICKOFF CAPSULES Dayton at Stetson, Dayton opens PFL play when it heads to the Sunshine State for a meeting against Stetson. Dayton has posted come-from-behind efforts in all three of its wins this season and will look to improve to 4-0 for the first time since Stetson returns home after opening PFL play with a loss at Drake for its first home game since a season-opening victory against Webber, Sept. 5. Members of each team s secondary highlighted Week 4 action. Dayton senior cornerback Cameron Stubbs intercepted two passes for the second consecutive game in a Week 4 win against Kennesaw State he leads all FCS players with 1.3 interceptions per game. Meanwhile, Stetson sophomore defensive back Eric Martin tied a PFL record with three interceptions in the loss at Drake and ranks second in interceptions per game (1.0) behind Stubbs. Morehead State at Jacksonville, Morehead State and Jacksonville will square off in the lone meeting between PFL unbeatens in Week 5. Morehead State enters the game after posting back-to-back shutouts for the first time since Jacksonville is out to a 3-0 start and looks for its first 4-0 start since Offensively, it will be a level meeting on paper with Morehead State ranking second in total offense (391.5 ypg) while Jacksonville is fifth (385.7 ypg). The difference lies on defense where the Dolphins are third in total yards allowed (293.7 ypg) while the Eagles are eighth (421.5 ypg) in the category. Individually, the focus will be on the two team s quarterbacks with Jacksonville senior Kade Bell leading the league in yards per game (304.3 ypg) while Morehead State junior Austin Gahafer is second in yardage (268.8 ypg) but leads all league hurlers with 11 touchdown throws. Valparaiso at Davidson, Valparaiso and Davidson meet with each team seeking its first victory in Valparaiso scored first in its Week 4 loss to San Diego, but surrendered 38 straight points after that score. Davidson suffered its second shutout this season in a loss at Morehead State. The Wildcats enter the contest seeking an end to their 14-game losing streak while the Crusaders have lost five straight road contests. Valparaiso senior linebacker Alex Green enters the weekend tied for second among league tacklers with 9.7 tackles per game, including two tackles for loss. Davidson senior wide receiver WIlliam Morris a preseason All-America pick has been held to 12 receptions for 128 yards, but that is more than one-third of the team s 32 completions this season PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE WEEKLY REPORT Marist at San Diego, 4 p.m. Marist makes the cross-country trek a five-hour flight and 2,443 miles to face San Diego. The Red Foxes return to action after surrendering a fourth-quarter lead in a loss to Jacksonville while committing four turnovers and allowing five sacks. San Diego rattled off 38 straight points in a win at Valparaiso and has scored 83 points in its last two outings. Marist redshirt senior free safety Zach Adler kept helped keep Marist ahead in the early going, breaking up three passes as part of a six-tackle outing. He will square off against San Diego junior defensive back Jamal Agnew who leads all FCS defenders with 2.3 passes defended (5 PBUs, 2 INT) this season. Meanwhile, San Diego redshirt freshman quarterback Anthony Lawrence threw interceptions on two of the Toreros first three possessions, but rebounded to complete 21-of-28 passes and threw four touchdowns for the second consecutive game. Marist saw White go the entire game against Jacksonville but was sacked five times in a 17-for-36, 214-yard outing the Red Foxes have permitted a leaguehigh 18 sacks this season. Drake at Campbell, 6 p.m. Drake will take one of the league s top rushing defenses into a meeting with Campbell which boasts one of the league s most efficient rushing attacks. The Bulldogs pitched a shutout of the Stetson run game in a Week 4 win, allowing no net yards on the ground. That effort pushed Drake s yards allowed to a league best 3.0 yards per rush. Campbell returns to Barker-Lane Stadium after suffering a one-point loss in the closing moments at Butler. The Fighting Camels own a league best 5.2 yards per carry this season and lead the league with 807 rushing yards in four games. Led by junior defensive end Mack Marrin the PFL Defensive Player of the Week Drake s defense racked up 14 tackles for loss and seven sacks in the Stetson contest. Campbell junior running back De Shawn Jones owns three runs of 50-plus yards this season and had a 133-yard performance at Butler that included a 72-yard touchdown burst. Off Week: Butler Butler s high-powered offense will get the week off before a Week 6 contest at Morehead State. Bulldogs senior quarterback Matt Shiltz leads an offense that leads the PFL in scoring (31.0 ppg) and yardage (401.0 ypg) after four games. Shiltz has amassed 1,150 total offensive yards in those four outings, passing for 830 yards while leading all PFL signal-callers (and eighth among all FCS quarterbacks at 80.0 ypg) with 320 rushing yards. Defensively, Butler leads all teams with eight interceptions this season, with six players recording an interception this season. PAGE 3

4 NEWS AND NOTES FROM AROUND THE PFL PFL s 23RD CAMPAIGN The 2015 season marks the 23rd year for the Pioneer Football League the nation s only non-scholarship, football-only NCAA Football Championship Subdivision conference. The league will feature 11 teams each playing an eight-game schedule to determine the league champion and recipient of the automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA FCS Championship. DAYTON S KACSOR LEADING FCS RUSHERS Dayton redshirt senior running back Connor Kacsor became the first FCS rusher with two 200-yard outings this season. He followed his FCS-best 244-yard outing against Duquesne with a 229-yard effort against Kennesaw State that came on a FCS-best 44 rush attempts. Kacsor leads all FCS runners in total yardage (545), yards per game (181.7) and rushing touchdowns (six). PROLIFIC GAHAFER PACING MOREHEAD STATE Morehead State junior quarterback ranks fourth among FCS signal callers with 84 points responsibility after four weeks. He has had a hand in 13 of the Eagles 14 touchdowns 11 passing, 2 rushing and 1 receiving. PFL GOING PICK CRAZY Through the season s first four weeks, PFL defenses have recorded 52 interceptions most of any FCS league. Leading the way is Stetson s Eric Martin, who tied a PFL record with three interceptions in a Week 4 loss at Drake, the most by any FCS defender this season. It is one of eight multi-interception outings this season a category led by Dayton s Cameron Stubbs who has picked off two passes in back-to-back games. MORE PICK CRAZINESS In the Week 4 FCS statistics leaders, Dayton s Cameron Stubbs leads the subdivision with 1.3 interceptions per game. In addition, San Diego s Jamal Agnew leads the FCS with 2.3 passes defended per game, a year after leading the subdivision with 2.1 passes defended per game last season. FOUR PFL STUDENT-ATHLETES NAMED TO CAMPBELL TROPHY LIST Campbell s Hunter Somerville, Dayton s Danny Leach and Marist s John Brennan were each named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy presented by Fidelity Investments and the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame. The NFF will announce 15 finalists on Oct. 29, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, presented by Fidelity Investments. MARIST PAIR REPRESENT PFL IN NFL Marist alumni Terrence Fede and Jason Myers are representing the Pioneer Football League on NFL opening-week rosters. Fede, a defensive end with the Miami Dolphins, had six tackles in Week 1 action. Myers, a kicker with the Jacksonville Jaguars, hit a game-winning 28-yard field goal in Week 2. DRAKE NEARS 600TH WIN Drake entered the 2014 campaign with 595 victories in the 121 years of the program s history five shy of reaching 600. The Bulldogs picked up Win No. 597 with a PFL-opening victory against Stetson in Week 4. Drake is seeking to become only the 17th active FCS program to reach the 600-win plateau, joining Dayton which has 651 all-time wins. MOREHEAD STATE S GAHAFER EARNS STATS NATIONAL FCS HONOR Junior quarterback Austin Gahafer s was named STATS National FCS Offensive Player of the Week after his performance at VMI in Week 2. The junior signal-caller s 447 passing yards were the most in the PFL since his 458-yard outing at Valparaiso in Gahafer completed 35-of-62 passes for four touchdowns. He also caught a 23-yard touchdown pass that gave Morehead State a lead in the fourth quarter. Gahafer becomes the first PFL player this season and first since Jacksonville s Kade Bell in Week 11 last season to earn national recognition. STETSON S PAYNE NAMED TO STATS FCS DEFENSIVE AWARD WATCH LIST Stetson junior safety Donald Payne was one of 22 players named to the STATS FCS Defensive Player of the Year Watch List. The Fayetteville, Georgia, native recorded a PFL record 174 tackles a FCS best 14.5 per game during his sophomore campaign. DAYTON S KACSOR NAMED TO FCS OFFENSIVE AWARD WATCH LIST Dayton recordsetting running back Connor Kacsor was one of 22 players named to the STATS FCS Offensive Player of the Year Watch List. Kacsor is the reigning Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for 1,547 yards last season as a junior. PREFERRED NOMENCLATURE The league s full name is the Pioneer Football League. Please use the league s full name when possible or use PFL as an abbreviation. The PFL Weekly Release is released each Monday and contains all the information from the Sunday release along with news and notes from around the league and up-to-date statistics. Both versions are provided by and on the league s website in PDF and may be reproduced as necessary. Weekly releases also will be sent via to media outlets around the league. WEEKLY AWARDS The PFL names Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week each Sunday during the season. Winners are selected from nominations provided by each PFL team s Football Media Relations personnel. ANNUAL AWARDS The league will announce the following awards at the conclusion of the regular-season: All-PFL First and Second teams; Honorable Mention All-PFL; Academic All-PFL First and Second teams; Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Year; Offensive and Defensive Freshmen of the Year; Scholar-Athlete of the Year; Coach of the Year. The awards will be announced by the PFL via release as well as on the league s website. 5 TWO NAMED TO FRED MITCHELL AWARD WATCH LIST Two Pioneer Football League kickers were named to the Fred Mitchell Award Watch List, Thursday. Davidson sophomore kicker Trevor Smith and Dayton senior placekicker William Will were among 41 Division I FCS, Division II, III, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) collegiate place-kickers that were nominated by their colleges for excellence on the football field and in the community. THREE NAMED TO STATS FCS PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA SQUADS Three Pioneer Football League student athletes were among the 100 named to the STATS FCS Preseason All- America Team. Stetson junior defensive back Donald Payne was a first-team selection, Dayton running back Connor Kacsor was a second-team selection and Davidson wide receiver William Morris picked up a third-team nod. SIX PFL ATHLETES NOMINATED FOR 2015 ALLSTATE AFCA GOOD WORKS TEAM Six Pioneer Football League student-athletes were among a record 197 nominees from across the country for the 24th edition of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. Butler s Matt Shiltz; Davidson s Christopher Woods Jr.; Dayton s Patrick Nuzzolese; Drake s John Hugunin; Marist s Zach Quarles; and San Diego s Devyn Bryant were each nominated for the honor. For 24 years the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team has served as one of the most coveted and prestigious off-the-field honors in college football. The award recognizes players whose charitable involvement and community service contributions stand out among all other student-athletes participating in the sport. JACKSONVILLE INELIGIBLE IN 2015 The Pioneer Football League concluded its review of Jacksonville University s football program s use of financial aid in July. In addition to the selfimposed penalties presented by Jacksonville, the PFL imposed a one-year ban on postseason play for the 2015 season, which also will preclude the program from being eligible for the league s regular-season title. Jacksonville s wins and losses during the 2015 season will count toward the determination of the league champion, but they will be listed at the bottom of the league s standings tables. PFL TIEBREAKER The PFL s automatic qualifier tiebreaker remains untouched for the 2015 season. Beginning in 2014, the league began including a Strength of Victory and Strength of Schedule both based on conference games only to help determine its representative in the FCS Championship. PFL ADDS SEVENTH MAJOR AWARD This past summer league s presidents voted to add a Special Teams Player of the Year Award to its postseason accolades. The new honor will be selected as part of the league s All-PFL squad voting in November PLAYERS OF THE YEAR RETURN The league s returning depth is highlighted by the return of both its 2014 Players of the Year. Dayton running back Connor Kacsor, the reigning PFL Offensive Player of the Year, led the league in rushing yards (1,547) and touchdowns (17) while ranking fifth among FCS running back in yards per game (140.6) last season. Stetson safety Donald Payne, the returning PFL Defensive Player of the Year, set the PFL s record for single-season tackles (175) and led all FCS defensive players in tackles per game (14.6). PRESEASON ALL-PFL TEAM Twenty-nine Pioneer Football League student-athletes were named to the preseason All-PFL squad. Sixteen First-Team All-PFL honorees return for the 2015 season. In addition, 12 Second-Team All-PFL selections and one honorable mention recipient from the 2014 All-PFL squads were elevated to the 2015 preseason squad. SAN DIEGO PICKED TO WIN PFL Defending champion San Diego again received the coaches nod to win the 2015 PFL title, but the coaches also predicted an exciting race. The top three teams in the preseason poll were separated by just three points. San Diego received seven of a possible 10 first-place votes and 89 of a maximum 100 points as coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team in the poll.
