1 End of Term 2 Athletics Report January 3 rd - March 27 th, 2013 The first event on the BSSF calendar after the Christmas break was the Annual All Star Football matches which was held on Saturday, January 8 th at the National Sports Centre. Representing Saltus: Middle Girls All Stars were: Savannah Fisher, Victoria Davis, Zekiah Lewis and LeiLanni Nesbeth Middle Boys All Stars were: Tyre Nosakhere, K-Ci Smith and Dylan Powell Senior Girls All Stars were: Sierra Fisher, Kennesha Nanette, Eva Frazzoni and Raeesah Shakir Senior Boys All Stars were: Fabio Pacheco, Ashton Bell, Jevon Swan and Jalen Smith During the early part of the term the Mount Allison University Women s Soccer Team visited our campus and held a training session during the lunch break. Several of our senior team members participated in the session and at the conclusion, Okeema Benjamin presented Mt. Allison s Head Coach with a Saltus pennant. Table Tennis The Senior Inter School Table Tennis Tournament was held at CedarBridge Academy on January 24 th. The U16 team consisted of Nicholas Lines, Charlie Boyle, Mahir Wagh and William Way. The U16 final was an all Saltus final between Nicholas Lines and William Way. After a closely contested final Nicholas was eventually crowned the U16 Champion. The O16 Team consisted of Fabio Pacheco, Ryan Spencer-Arscott, Shannon Thomas and Joshua Liyanage. The players performed well and exhibited good sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Cross Country The Middle School Cross Country Championships were held on February 5 th at The Arboretum. In the U13 girls category Saltus placed 1 st overall with Lynsey Palmer finishing 1 st, Ashley Irby 2 nd, Alyssa Rowse 4 th, Laura Hope 6 th, Rebecca Harrison 7 th and Brianna Berkeley 8 th to round out the top 10. In the U13 boys division, Saltus finished 4 th overall with Max de ste Croix finishing 2 nd overall. In the O13 girls category Saltus finished 2 nd overall with Tristan Narraway finishing 4 th and Zoe Skinner 7 th. The O13 boys finished 5 th overall with Dylan Powell being the top Saltus finisher in 11 th place. Well done to all participants! The Senior School Cross Country was held on the following day, February 6 th. Raeesah Shakir led home the Saltus U16 girls team with a 10 th place finish. In the U16 boys division Daniel Oatley captured 1 st place overall followed by Liam Evans in 7 th and Kevin Miller in 10 th which enable Team Saltus to capture 1 st place. In the O16 girls, Eva Frazzoni ran up an age group and placed 3 rd overall to secure a 2 nd place finish for Team Saltus. In the final race of the day the O16 Boys were led by Nathaniel Hartwig who was

2 1 st across the line followed by Sam Wehmeyer, who also ran up an age group, who placed 4 th and Mark Godfrey was 5 th to secure an overall 1 st place finish for Saltus. Colors Reawarded: Mark Godfrey and Sierra Wolffe Colors Awarded: Sierra Fisher, Zakiya Adams, Nathaniel Hartwig, Marcus Smith and Bruce Sandham Middle Boys Rugby: Submitted by Coach McArthur This term the Middle Boys rugby team has played Dellwood twice. The results were a convincing home win and a disappointing last play loss away. Several Saltus players have also started playing in the Bermuda rugby program and had the opportunity to play against a touring Canadian team recently. After the Easter holidays Saltus will be entering the Middle School rugby championship tournament in both the boys contact division and the girls tag division. Middle Girls Basketball: Submitted by Coach Figureido This year s team comprised of S7 & S8 students. What they lacked in experience they made up for with youthful exuberance. The team started off slowly with a couple of narrow defeats. However, they improved every game after that which resulted in several victories against some tough competition. The girls followed up the regular season with play-off wins against BHS and a nail biter against Sandys which put them into the Championship match versus TN Tatem. Unfortunately, in the Championship match they were beaten by a very athletic and well drilled TN Tatem team who were deserved victors. The girls should be commended for their efforts this season and I look forward to seeing them all next season so that we can build on this seasons exploits. Team Members: Zakiah Lewis, Kaya Montarsolo, Nicole Mullen, Alyssa Rowse, Tia Burrows, LeiLanni Nesbeth, Hannah Thompson, Tianna Mullan, Rianna Simons, Jaylen Simons, Yasmin Eve-Townsend and Kelly Simmons Middle Boys Basketball: Submitted by Coach O Reilly The middle school boys basketball season began with mixed fortunes with losses against Clearwater and Dellwood. The team worked harder in practice and had a more solid defense against their next opponents. Saltus Knights secured a home court win against TNT Tatem in a closely contested game. Half way through the league, Saltus met MSA for an away game in which the Knights dominated the game for the first three quarters but MSA pulled ahead with three, three point baskets in the final quarter to win the game. Despite this set back, the Knights stepped up their game to win against old rivals Warwick Academy on our home court. The Knights travelled to Sandys for their next game in which they dominated in defense and a spectacular run of free throw baskets gave Saltus a well - deserved win.

3 The Knights played Somersfield next in the league but unfortunately despite the best efforts of our players, Somersfield were the better team on the day. The Saltus Knights met MSA again in the tournament playoffs, unfortunately the team was missing a number of players due to injury and the final result saw MSA the winners. The Knights had some success this season and the team will build on its strengths going forward next year. Thanks to Mr. Smith who volunteered his time to help coach the middle school boys basketball team. Hopefully next season we will have more players joining the ranks and we will build on our successes. Team Members: Bryce Gonsalves (captain), Chazz Puaso, Shervin Burgess, Conor White, Johndell Cumberbatch, Tyriq Brown, Tyre Nosakhere, K-Ci Smith, Tyler Kendall, Cavon Raynor, Sam Fox, Spencer Crisson, Tristan Mullan, Schyler Smith and Jaden Evelyn Lady Knights Basketball: Submitted by Coach Nusum The senior girls basketball team enjoyed a very successful year that ended with an appearance in the tournament finals in which they received a runner s up medal. During the regular season the Lady Knights had an impressive record of 5 wins and 2 losses. Team morale and sportsmanship were constantly at an impressive level. Kennesha Nanette received MVP honors for Saltus in the Tournament Final. Along with Kennesha, Destiny Thomas-Adams, Latonia Fray and Zureena Rubaine were selected for the All-Star game. With several girls returning, next season looks to be very promising! Colors Reawarded: Destiny Thomas-Adams, Ciara Burrows, Zureena Rubaine, Zoe Simmons, Kennesha Nanette, Kathryn O Connor and Danae Palanyandi Colors Awarded: Latonia Fray, Eva Frazzoni, Eryn Beach and Zhanae Simmons Junior Varsity Basketball: During the regular league schedule the JV team compiled a record of 5 wins and 1 loss. They are in the tournament final today against Berkeley at Berkeley starting at 4:00pm your support is welcomed. These players will make up the core of the varsity team next year. Special thanks to Coach Hassell for volunteering his time to coach the JV team this season. Team Members: Liam Evans, Jake Fisher, Jaylin Martin, Calum Maule, James Patterson, Keenan Smith, Keaton Pewter, Kevin Miller, Mahir Wagh and Tyler Irby. Varsity Knights Basketball: Submitted by Coach Trott As the season progressed, there was an overall improvement in everyone from a skills point of view and we became better as a TEAM. We beat every team in our division and advanced to the semi-finals of the playoffs.

4 The season was a success in my eyes, despite the result of our last game. We finished with a 6-2 regular season (2nd place), recorded a win against every team, Semi-Finals appearance and the only team to beat CedarBridge. I constantly re-enforced that the only team that could beat them was themselves. What's positive about next year is that we have an opportunity to be a better team with the addition of JV players that will be moving up to varsity. Colors Reawarded: Dejon Benjamin and Joshua Liyanage Colors Awarded: Jalen Smith, Ryan Spencer-Arscott, Jason Gonsalves, Alex Fox, Shannon Thomas, Ashton Bell and Stephen Symons II All Star Basketball: Wednesday, March 27 th at Berkeley Girls: 5:15pm & Boys 6:15pm Varsity Girls: Latonia Fray and Destiny Thomas-Adams represented the East.
