NBA CARES NBA Cares is the league's global social responsibility program that builds on the NBA's mission to address important social issues in the United States and around the world. Through this program, the NBA, its teams and players have donated more than $200 million to charity, completed more than 1.9 million hours of hands-on community service, and created more than 720 places where kids and families can live, learn, or play, in 23 countries and territories on five continents. NBA Cares works with internationally recognized youth-serving programs that support education, youth and family development, and health-related causes, including: KaBOOM!, Special Olympics, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, UNICEF, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis. 402

Through the work of our Community Relations Department and Chicago Bulls Charities, the team s philanthropic arm, we are committed to assisting our neighbors and our neighborhoods. Our goal is to address community concerns - particularly those focused on youth education, health and wellness, and violence prevention - and find ways for the Bulls family to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need. During the season, the Bulls and Chicago Bulls Charities supported a number of initiatives and organizations throughout Chicagoland. The following pages highlight some of these activities. BBALL OPS. CHICAGO BULLS COLLEGE PREP Dedicated many hours and resources to Chicago Bulls College Prep (CBCP), a campus of the Noble Network of Charter Schools, to enhance the education and experience for the students. Since its opening in 2009, CBCP has provided a world-class education to local high school students throughout Chicago. CBCP students participate in a rigorous, four-year college preparatory curriculum with an emphasis on scholarship, self-discipline, honorable character, and a fit lifestyle. The school is expected to serve more than 1,000 students in grades nine through twelve during the school year. 404

5 B B B B CHICAGO BULLS IN THE COMMUNITY ENERGIZABULLS FITNESS LEARNING CENTERS ADOPT-A-SCHOOL Provided special benefits to William H. Brown Elementary, the Bulls and BMO Harris Adopt-A-School. Located a few blocks from the United Center, the school received tickets to select Bulls games, school appearances by Bulls personalities, tours of the United Center, and a study hall room renovation. CHICAGO S MVPS Celebrated Black History Month with the Sprite Chicago s MVPs Program, which honors the academic achievements of top African American male students in local public high schools. Joakim Noah, Sidney Green and Benny the Bull attended a recognition dinner for the students and presented them with a tablet and Bulls tickets as a reward for their accomplishments. MERCY HOME S HOOPS TO HOMEWORK PROGRAM Supported Mercy Home for Boys & Girls Hoops to Homework Program, an annual weekend basketball tournament that encourages young men living at Mercy Home to excel academically while also promoting sportsmanship and a healthy sense of competition. Gar and Leslie Forman, Jimmy Butler, and other Bulls personalities helped with the NBA-style draft to tip-off the program and spoke to the students about the importance of education and teamwork. ENERGIZABULLS FITNESS LEARNING CENTERS Opened our 20th EnergizaBulls Fitness Learning Center at George Armstrong International Studies Elementary School to help local children develop the knowledge and skills they need to adopt and maintain a physically active and healthy lifestyle. The permanent, sustainable wellness health centers are decorated with Bulls colors and photos and include topof-the-line fitness equipment. BBALL OPS. RAY AND JOAN KROC CORPS COMMUNITY CENTER Donated $1 million to the Salvation Army Chicago Metropolitan Division to help build the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the West Pullman neighborhood. The 160,000-square-foot Kroc Center offers a wide array of educational, sports, arts and supportive programs and services for people of all ages, and provides a safe haven for youth sorely in need of alternatives to gangs and violence. 406

JORDAN BOYS & GIRLS CLUB JAMES JORDAN BOYS & GIRLS CLUB AND CHICAGO BULLS FAMILY LIFE CENTER Assisted the James Jordan Boys & Girls Club and Chicago Bulls Family Life Center with its community programs and operations as well as provided complimentary game tickets for the children who frequent the club. Since its opening in 1996, the club has annually served approximately 1,000 neighborhood children and their families each year as part of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago network. MLK CELEBRATION Joined students from William H. Brown Elementary School to commemorate the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Sidney Green led a discussion on the legacy of Dr. King s life and teachings. GO GREEN CHICAGO GATEWAY GREEN GO GREEN Hosted an in-arena Go Green awareness night during a game in April as part of NBA Green Week with our Official Energy Provider Constellation Energy. Constellation also bought Green-e Energy Certified renewable energy certificates to match the electricity used during our game that evening. Teamed up with the Blackhawks, Constellation Energy and local community children for a cleanup event to beautify the grounds of the Westhaven Park Gardens, located near the United Center. CHICAGO GATEWAY GREEN Participated in Chicago Gateway Green s Expressway Partnership Program by cleaning up and maintaining a section of the Kennedy Expressway near the United Center marked by a sign at the Milwaukee Avenue exit ramp. MEDIA COMMUNITY HISTORY PLAYOFFS RECORDS SEASON OPPONENTS DICK S SPORTING GOODS SHOPPING SPREE RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES OF CHICAGOLAND AND NORTHWEST INDIANA Celebrated Valentine s Day with more than 50 families with the Ronald McDonald House near University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital. Michael and Nancy Reinsdorf, Gar and Leslie Forman, Jimmy Butler, Sidney Green, Bob Love and Benny the Bull joined the families in a variety of activities including an arts and crafts project and basketball-themed video games. Partnered with the United Center, Chicago Blackhawks and United Scrap Metal to recycle all the aluminum cans within our office and the arena to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana to help keep families of hospitalized children together. PACIFIC GARDEN MISSION MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS CAMPAIGN Served dinner to more than 700 homeless men, women and children at the Pacific Garden Mission for the Thanksgiving holiday. Michael Reinsdorf, Tom Thibodeau, front office staff and other Bulls personalities attended the event. Hosted a toy drive at the United Center to benefit the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program. Teamed up with Dick s Sporting Goods to sponsor a holiday shopping spree for 20 students. Treated local military families to a holiday party and gifts at the Bulls/Sox Academy in Lisle. Partnered with the Black McDonald s Operators Association to host the Chicago Housing Authority s annual Kids Holiday Party at the Museum of Science and Industry. Bill Wennington and Sidney Green were on hand to distribute gifts to the 400 children in attendance. 408

9 B B B B CHICAGO BULLS IN THE COMMUNITY MIDWAY MOVING & VIENNA BEEF FOOD DRIVE CHICAGO BULLS NAVAL DIVISION IN-ARENA FOOD DRIVE Collected more than 30,000 pounds of food for the Greater Chicago Food Depository from our annual in-arena food drive with partners Midway Moving and Storage and Vienna Beef. We have hosted the food drive for more than 20 years to help feed Chicagoans in need. ARMED FORCES SUPPORT Continued a four-year tradition of sponsoring a Navy Recruit Division from Naval Station Great Lakes in Lake County. Donated hundreds of preseason game tickets to the United Service Organizations (USO) that were given to active armed services personnel from Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana, injured veterans, and family members of currently enlisted personnel serving overseas. MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION IN-KIND DONATIONS Contributed hundreds of autographed sports items, tickets and other in-kind donations to help local charities, schools, hospitals and churches to raise necessary funds for their organizations. WISH-GRANTING ORGANIZATIONS Collaborated with Make-A-Wish and Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer foundations to make the dreams of critically ill children come true by attending a Bulls game or meeting one of our players, including Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah. MEDIA COMMUNITY HISTORY PLAYOFFS RECORDS SEASON OPPONENTS CHICAGO BULLS CHARITIES Chicago Bulls Charities (CBC), the team s charity foundation, provides annual financial and in-kind support to organizations throughout the Chicagoland area, including those that focus on issues related to youth education, health and wellness, and violence prevention. Our outreach through Chicago Bulls Charities along with the Bulls year-round community relations efforts, touches the lives of many people in our community. CHICAGO BULLS CHARITIES RETURN TICKET PROGRAM Provided season ticket holders with the opportunity to offer their unused tickets to Chicago Bulls Charities and the charitable organizations we support. EMBRACEABULLS TICKET PROGRAM Donated game tickets to local charities throughout the Chicagoland area which allowed us to extend invitations to fans that might never have the opportunity to see a game. 11 CHICAGO BULLS/CHICAGO w HITE SOX ACADEMY PHILOSOPHY As professional teams, we are in a unique position to help the aspiring athlete pull from these great games all that they have to offer. This Academy is the bridge between the Bulls and Sox, for the athletes who want to push themselves to attain the very highest level of achievement. We have created the most sophisticated youth player development facility in America. All we ask of you, as you cross the threshold of our Academy, is to pledge your best effort to us. In return, you will receive the very best that the Bulls and Sox have to offer. At the Academy, you will be training in an environment that stresses the values of sportsmanship, integrity, and teamwork. Because we love this game and kids who play it, is not only our motto, but our mandate to strictly maintain an environment that allows young athletes to grow into mature and productive well-rounded citizens. The Academy is the only resource for total athlete training and counsel, offering youngsters the most progressive, knowledgeable and caring athletic assessment and personalized training capabilities available. The Academy was created in response to kids, parents and coaches overwhelming desire for professional instruction and advanced training equipment for young athletes. TECHNOLOGY Founded in 2001, the Training Academy is a 57,000 square foot facility with state-of-the-art technology. Three basketball courts, thirteen retractable hitting and pitching cages, 20,000 square feet of turfed infield, and Sports Performance strength and conditioning capabilities. Young athletes can participate at the Academy through premiere teams, leagues, individual and group lessons, and membership packages. DIGITAL MOTION ANALYSIS This system captures and evaluates video frame-by-frame, with split-screen capabilities demonstrating detailed comparisons. Instructors have the ability to burn DVDs for each student, drawing lines and angles as references for later examination and comparison. This is the same program used by Bulls and White Sox coaches and professional scouts for evaluation, instruction, and the identification of potential draft choices. PROBATTER Also featured at the Academy is the lauded multi-media ProBatter pitching machine, the most realistic, game-like hitting device available to professional athletes. ProBatter features a life-sized player projection screen and the ability to throw any pitch, from curveballs to sliders, to any location with pinpoint accuracy and speed.
