1 Packers Public Relions Lambeau Field Atrium 1265 Lombardi Avenue Green Bay, WI / / fax Jeff Blumb, Sarah Quick, Adam Woullard, Aaron Popkey, Rob Crane, Tom Fanning, Mike Spofford, Duke Bobber VOL. XI; NO. 1 GREEN BAY, APRIL 14, SCHEDULE NATIONALLY TELEVISED GAMES HEADLINE 2009 SCHEDULE The Green Bay Packers regular-season schedule containing five nionally televised games was released early this evening by the Nional Football League. The Packers will play each of their NFC North opponents in front of a nional audience, including a primetime opener in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears Lambeau Field and a Thanksgiving game in Detroit against the Lions in Week 12. Green Bay also will travel to Minnesota to take on the rival Vikings in Week 4 for the first of two appearances on Monday Night Football. It s gre to see th the NFL and our network partners feel strongly about the nional appeal and popularity of the Packers, with five of our games sled for nional broadcasts, President and CEO Mark Murphy said. For those taking in games Lambeau Field, we ll now begin our detailed planning with our sponsors for creing the gre gameday fan experience. The Packers' other appearance on Monday night comes Dec. 7 in a Week 13 showdown with the Baltimore Ravens Lambeau Field. It marks the first MNF game played Lambeau Field in the month of December marks the 17th consecutive season the Packers have appeared on Monday Night Football, the NFC's longest active streak. Green Bay s fifth game in front of a nional TV audience comes against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 10. The Nov. 15 game will kick off 3:15 p.m. on FOX. The fifth home game on the schedule, the Cowboys contest is sled as a Gold Package (Milwaukee season-ticket holders) game. Cincinni comes to Lambeau Field in Week 2 for the other Gold Package game. I m excited for the 2009 regular season we have a gre opportunity starting with two home games and three early division games, Head Coach Mike McCarthy said. Playing on Monday night after Thanksgiving will give us a chance for another break before the final month. Historically we ve been strong in December, and we ll look to rise to th challenge. Green Bay s final four games of the season, including mchups against Super Bowl XLIII opponents Arizona and Pittsburgh, as well as the club s final division game of the season in Chicago, are all subject to the NFL s flexible scheduling. Built into the schedule for Sundays from Weeks 11-17, flex changes must be announced 12 days prior to kickoff, except for Week 17, which is announced on six days notice. Green Bay is not a candide to be flexed in Week 11 against San Francisco because the team plays just four days ler against Detroit on Thanksgiving. The Packers also are not a candide to be flexed in Week 13 because of the Monday night mchup against the Ravens. AT FIRST GLANCE Green Bay s bye week which occurs in Week 5 is the earliest bye for the team since 1999, when it had its bye in Week 4. Though their bye week comes early, the Packers will get some extra rest coming off the Week 12 Thanksgiving contest. They won t play until the following Monday night, Dec. 7, home. The Packers have five games against playoff teams from a year ago 11 (Week 4 Minnesota, Week 8 vs. Minnesota, Week 13 vs. Baltimore, Week 15 Pittsburgh and Week 17 Arizona). The first four games of the season will be broadcast on four different networks. After the bye week, Green Bay has seven straight games on FOX and could have 11 of the last 12 on the network, pending the NFL s flex scheduling. Also dependent upon the flex scheduling is the amount of 12 noon starts, which this point is set for 10 games. An 11th, Detroit, is set for 11:30 a.m. Green Bay plays three of the four teams who played in last season s conference championships. All three games (vs. Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Arizona) occur in the season s final five weeks. Making the season s final stretch tougher too is the fact th three of the final four games will be on the road. For the first time since 2003, the Packers will not play a division opponent in the season s final three weeks. 2 STAFF CHANGES HEADLINE OFFSEASON On the heels of a disappointing 6-10 season, a new defensive staff and scheme headlined the changes this offseason 1265 Lombardi Ave. Dom Capers was brought in as defensive coordinor, and the Packers will begin the transition to a 3-4 scheme. Joining Capers on the defensive staff are Mike Trgovac (defensive line), who spent the last six years in Carolina as defensive coordinor; outside linebackers coach Kevin Greene, third on the NFL s all-time sacks list and a former player under Capers; and safeties coach Darren Perry, who most recently coached in Oakland and also played under Capers. Assistant head coach/inside linebackers coach Winston Moss remains on the staff, as does Joe Whitt Jr., who spent 2008 as defensive quality control before his promotion to cornerbacks coach this offseason. Shawn Slocum was promoted to special teams coordinor after serving as the unit's assistant each of the last three seasons. Curtis Fuller, a former Packers safety and training camp coaching intern, will serve as his assistant. New strength and conditioning coordinor Dave Redding is entering his 23rd season the NFL level, while Scott McCurley (defense) and John Rushing (offense) will serve as the quality control coaches. MORE ON DOM CAPERS Charged with revamping the Packers defense is veteran coach Dom Capers, who is entering his 24th season on the NFL level in 2009, his 17th as a defensive coordinor or head coach. Noted around the league as one of the game s best defensive minds, Capers will transition the Packers to a 3-4 defense. Much of the depth chart on defense returns, including all 11 primary starters. But, this offseason will be heavily focused on learning the new system, including position changes for some. None will receiver more tention than Pro Bowler Aaron Kampman, who makes the switch to outside linebacker from defensive end. In addition to serving as the head coach of two different expansion franchises (Carolina and Houston), Capers brings an impressive résumé as a coordinor. Pittsburgh ranked No. 22 in overall defense in 1991, the year before Capers arrival. The Steelers defense rose up in the defensive rankings to 13th in 1992, Capers first season as a defensive coordinor in the NFL. The unit rose to No. 3 in 1993 and No. 2 in 1994, earning the moniker Blitzburgh with one of the decade s most feared defenses. Capers instant impact was also seen in his stint as defensive coordinor with Jacksonville ( ) and Miami ( ). Ranking 25th in overall defense in 1998, the Jaguars unit rose immediely under Capers in 99 to No. 4 overall in addition to allowing the fewest points in the NFL. The Dolphins ranked No. 18 in overall defense in 2005 but rose to No. 4 in 2006 under Capers, with DE Jason Taylor earning Defensive Player of the Year honors th season as well. GOT TICKETS? 2009 marks the 53rd season of football Lambeau Field, the league s longest-tenured stadium. Only Boston s Fenway Park (1912) and Chicago s Wrigley Field (1914) have longer tenures in all of professional sports. Lambeau Field s consecutive sellout streak stands 277 games (261 regular season, 16 playoffs). Last year s Week 3 contest vs. Dallas (71,113) set a new regular-season tendance record the stadium. PACKERS, BEARS IN SEASON OPENER No two NFL teams have met on the gridiron more than Green Bay and Chicago, and the division rivals renew acquaintances in Week 1 Lambeau Field in prime time. The game will be televised nionally by NBC. The Sept. 13 contest marks game No. 178 in the venerable series. Chicago owns a advantage in the all-time series, in addition to the lone playoff win in Green Bay has opened the season in prime time on four occasions, including 2008 against the Vikings on Monday Night Football. The Packers are 4-0 in the contests, all of which have come on MNF. The rivalry was kicked up another notch earlier this month with the arrival of QB Jay Cutler, who will make his Bears debut th night. It will mark the 21st time the Packers and Bears kick off an NFL season against one another. Amazingly, 18 of the previous 20 contests have come in Green Bay, but the Bears do hold a slight advantage. Some noteworthy games have occurred in the Green Bay-Chicago openers. A look some of the more memorable: De Result Notes Sept. 29, 1957 W, First game in Lambeau Field history Sept. 27, 1959 W, 9-6 Vince Lombardi s head coaching debut Sept. 15, 1963 L, 10-3 One of Lombardi s two career home losses to the Bears (also 1960 opener) Sept. 13, 1964 W, Paul Hornung returns to the gridiron after 1963 gambling suspension Sept. 7, 1980 W, 12-6 Chester Marcol takes deflection of blocked FG 25 yards for overtime TD Sept. 1, 1997 W, Packers begin title defense on MNF Sept. 10, 2006 L, 26-0 Bears spoil McCarthy s debut THE SCHEDULE FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL No sport exhibits parity like the Nional Football League, making it almost impossible to predict wh teams will look like when they line up across from the Packers next fall. And as coaches often say, it s not who you play, but when you play them. Looking the schedule five months before the regular season kicks off, it certainly appears as though the offensive unit faces a number of challenges in Under Head Coach Mike McCarthy, the Packers have finished among the NFL s top 10 offenses each of the last three seasons. Wh s more, 100 percent of the offensive production from 2008 remains on the roster, with additional weapons likely on the way through the NFL Draft and free agency. Armed with a 4,000-yard passer (Aaron Rodgers), 1,200-yard rusher (Ryan Grant) and two 1,000-yard receivers (Donald Driver and Greg Jennings), the Packers face five of the league s top 10 defenses from a year ago. Making up six games on the schedule are Pittsburgh (No. 1), Baltimore (No. 2), Minnesota (No. 6, twice), Dallas (No. 8) and Tampa Bay (No. 9). For Dom Capers and the new-look 3-4 defense, so too will there be plenty of challenges. Most noteworthy this point appears to be mchups against Arizona, with its Pro Bowl trio of QB Kurt Warner and WRs Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald, and Dallas, whose offensive firepower was on display last fall Lambeau Field. And defensive coordinors have plenty to worry about in the NFC North, which for the Packers will include two games each against the likes of Vikings RB Adrian Peterson, Lions WR Calvin Johnson and QB Jay Cutler in Chicago. Though the Packers don t know which side of the ball they ll line up on, they will face some of the premier rookies in the 2009 class. Six teams on the schedule possess top-10 selections in the upcoming NFL Draft, including Detroit No. 1 overall. 22

3 THE BLACK AND BLUE DIVISION Green Bay s division sle will get plenty of play around the country, as it plays each division foe once on nional television. Two of those games will come right away, as the Packers begin with the Bears on NBC s Sunday night opener in Week 1 and travel to Minnesota for a game on Monday Night Football in Week 4. The Packers will have another two division games under their belt by Week 8, giving them four division opponents in their first seven games. After the Vikings contest in Week 4, the Packers will have their bye week before hosting the Detroit Lions in Week 6. They will finish their season series with the Vikings in Week 8 Lambeau Field. The Packers final NFC North game on nional television will be on Thanksgiving in Detroit, their Week 12 mchup. In a game th could go a long way in determining the NFC North crown, Green Bay wraps up its division schedule in Week 14 in Chicago. It will mark the sixth consecutive season th the Packers have played in Chicago in either December or January. STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE Green Bay s 2009 sle pairs it against the AFC North and NFC West, as well as the third-place teams from the NFC East (Dallas) and NFC South (Tampa Bay). And though strength of schedule is a much more telling stistic the end of a season rher than before, it doesn t stop the prognosticors from deciding who has the toughest 2009 schedule. Based on its opponents 2008 record, Green Bay has the third-easiest schedule ( ,.427) in the NFL. However, the only two clubs whose schedule ranks as easier are Minnesota ( ,.420) and Chicago ( ,.414). Undoubtedly for all three NFC North teams, having the Lions 0-16 record count twice in the calculion is a major factor. It marks the 33rd time the franchise will play an NFL game on the holiday. Green Bay first played a league game on Thanksgiving in 1923, a 19-0 win over the Hammond Pros. Its most recent game came in 2007, a victory in Detroit is the fourth Thanksgiving mchup this decade between the NFC North teams. Green Bay has won two of three. The 2007 victory improved the club s all-time record on Thanksgiving to , including in Detroit. The two division rivals played for 13 consecutive seasons on Thanksgiving, from , before the league began roting opponents for the Lions. The Packers traveled to Dallas twice on the holiday, in 1970 and 94. ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL? For a 17th consecutive season, the Green Bay Packers will appear on Monday Night Football, the most successful series in sports television history. The Packers own the NFC s longest active appearance streak on MNF. Green Bay will kick things off on MNF against division rival Minnesota in Week 4, the seventh Monday night mchup in the border rivalry. Fittingly, the all-time Monday night series stands tied 3-3. The Packers second Monday night mchup comes in Week 13 Lambeau Field against the Baltimore Ravens on Dec. 7. The teams last meeting also came on MNF, a 48-3 Ravens victory in Baltimore on Dec. 19, 2005, th marked the first significant playing time for QB Aaron Rodgers, then a rookie. The bright lights of Monday night are nothing new for Head Coach Mike McCarthy and the Packers. In his three seasons as coach, the team has made six regular-season appearances on MNF and is 2-4 in the games. Green Bay is all-time on Monday night. HEAD COACH RETURNS HOME The Packers haven t had the reigning Super Bowl winners on the schedule since 2003, when they played the champs for the third straight year - and defeed them all, being Baltimore in 2001, New England in 2002 and Tampa Bay in Green Bay will travel to Pittsburgh in Week 15 to take on the Super Bowl XLIII champions. It will be a special trip for Head Coach Mike McCarthy, a Pittsburgh nive. It will mark the first time McCarthy will coach a regular-season contest in his nive city. As an assistant coach with Kansas City, Green Bay, New Orleans and San Francisco, he faced the Steelers six times each time home. The Packers did make a preseason trip to Pittsburgh in 2007, his first ever trip as an NFL coach to the city. However, this Week 15 mchup will be counted in the standings. McCarthy first coached against the Steelers in 1993 when Pittsburgh traveled to Kansas City for the AFC Wild Card game. Serving as an offensive quality control assistant, McCarthy and the Chiefs defeed the Steelers in overtime. McCarthy grew up one of five children in the Irish-Cholic family of fher Joe and mother Ellen in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Greenfield. His fher was a longtime firefighter and police officer. He gradued from Bishop Boyle High School in Homestead, Pa., and ler served on Paul Hackett's staff the University of Pittsburgh for four seasons ( ). 3

4 WITH THE NINTH PICK IN THE 2009 NFL DRAFT... In less than two weeks time, the Green Bay Packers will welcome the newest rookie class to its roster the NFL Draft, held April Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Armed with seven of its own selections - plus a third-round choice from the New York Jets and a sixth-round pick from New Orleans - the Packers will have plenty of opportunities to add to its roster. For the second time under General Manager Ted Thompson, the team has a top-10 selection (No. 9). It will draft ninth overall in each subsequent round. The NFL made new changes to the NFL Draft again this year, as the event kicks off one hour ler 3 p.m. CST on Surday, April 25. Rounds 1 and 2 will be held Surday, with each team allowed 10 minutes for all first-round selections and seven minutes for each Round 2 pick. Rounds 3-7 will be held Sunday beginning 9 a.m. CST, with each selection alloced five minutes. Round Round # Overall # (from N.Y. Jets) (from New Orleans) IN THE PRESEASON Also finalized with the regular-season schedule were the des and times for the preseason opponents. Green Bay opens the preseason with two consecutive home games before wrapping up the exhibition sle on the road. Exact des and times are still to be determined. All four games will be produced by CBS Sports and aired on Green Bay s WFRV-TV (Ch. 5), in conjunction with Milwaukee s WTMJ-TV, over a nine-stion network throughout the ste of Wisconsin, Upper Michigan, and Northeastern Minnesota. In addition to WFRV-TV and WTMJ-TV, the games are televised over WKOW/ABC, Madison, Wis.; WAOW/ABC, Wausau/Rhinelander, Wis.; WXOW/ABC, La Crosse, Wis.; WQOW/ABC, Eau Claire, Wis.; WYOW/ABC, Eagle River, Wis.; WJMN/ CBS, Marquette, Mich.; and KQDS-TV/FOX, Duluth, Minn./Superior, Wis. The Packers have designed the preseason opener against the Browns, to be held S., Aug p.m., as the 60th annual Upper Midwest Shrine Game. The tradition, which began in 1950, has raised more than $3.1 million for the Midwest Shrine s burn centers and hospitals for crippled children. Green Bay has won four of its last five and eight of its last 10 in the Shrine series. The Packers and Browns will meet in the preseason for the first time since 2003, a contest th ended a four-year preseason series between the clubs. The Week 2 preseason contest against the Bills, set for S., Aug p.m., will be the 49th annual Bishop s Charities Game, a charitable contest initied in 1961 by Vince Lombardi and the Diocese of Green Bay th has raised more than $3.4 million. Green Bay and Buffalo last met in the preseason in 2005 in Buffalo. The Bills will be making their first preseason game appearance Lambeau Field since 1979, having played the Packers twice in the preseason in Madison (1989, 1991) and once in Toronto (1997). Buffalo also opposed the Packers in the annual Family Night Scrimmage Lambeau Field in The Packers first road preseason contest will be Arizona against the defending NFC champion on Fri., Aug. 28. The Cardinals are one of Green Bay s regular-season opponents in 2009, a game th also will be played in Arizona. The two clubs last met in the preseason in 2002, also out west. Th s the only preseason meeting between the teams since the Cardinals moved to Arizona from St. Louis in The preseason concludes with a road contest Tennessee, Thur., Sept. 3, as the Packers and Titans will meet in the preseason finale for the eighth consecutive year. Tennessee has won three straight in the series and five of seven overall. LAST THOUGHTS ON 2008 NFL games often come down to one or two plays, and the 2008 season will be remembered most likely as one in which the Packers did not come up with the critical play in crunch time. Green Bay s 6-10 record was just the franchise s second losing season since The Packers finished 0-7 in games decided by four points or less, including four in a row (Weeks 13-16) a frustring stretch th knocked the team from playoff contention. The seven losses by four points or less ties for the second highest total in NFL history. Cleveland set the record in 1984 with eight losses by four points or less. The 2008 Packers tied three other clubs seven: Carolina (2001), Houston (1994) and New England (1993). Much like 2005, when the team was 4-12, Green Bay was unable to overcome injuries to key starters. In 05, starters missed 48 games due to injury. This past season, injuries forced starters to miss 44 games. For the third consecutive year under Head Coach Mike McCarthy, the team finished among the league s top 10 in total offense (No. 8). The defense, which set a new franchise record with seven touchdowns, finished No. 20. He appeared in 46 games, including 14 starts. Soi has spent time with the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants. AMERICA S TEAMS One of the hottest tickets to get next fall will be for the Dallas Cowboys game, a Week 10 mchup on Nov. 15 televised nionally on FOX. One need only to point to last season, when the Cowboys-Packers mchup set a new regular-season tendance record Lambeau Field with a crowd of 71,113. Last fall s loss marked the first time the Cowboys had ever won Lambeau Field in franchise history. They are now 1-5. The most famous current NFL player from the ste of Wisconsin, QB Tony Romo, will make his second career start Lambeau Field. The game was chosen for a nional broadcast by FOX for good reason. Just last month, the NFL and ESPN Sports Poll conducted a study to determine the country s most popular pro sports franchises across all sports. 6 Sun., Sept. 13 vs. Chicago, 7:20 p.m., NBC The 91st season in Green Bay Packers history the 89th as a member of the NFL kicks off with the league s oldest rivalry Lambeau Field in prime time. No two NFL clubs have faced off more than Green Bay and Chicago, and the season opener will mark Game No. 178 in the rivalry. It marks the 21st time the Packers and Bears square off in the NFL opener. Amazingly, 18 of the previous 20 have occurred in Green Bay, with the lone Windy City openers coming in 1979 and 81. For the second consecutive season, the Packers will open in prime time against a division opponent. Green Bay defeed Minnesota in a Monday night game to open the 2008 season. The Packers are 4-0 alltime in prime-time openers. Sun., Sept. 20 vs. Cincinni, 12 p.m., CBS The first game of the Gold ticket package, Cincinni makes its first trip to Green Bay since The Bengals 13-year absence is the longest of any current NFL team. The 2009 game comes 17 years to the day since a memorable, comefrom-behind victory over the Bengals, the first win of the Ron Wolf, Mike Holmgren and Brett Favre era. In the last 10 years, the two teams have met just once, a Bengals victory in Cincinni in Sun., Sept. 27 St. Louis, 12 p.m., FOX The Packers take on the Rams for the fourth time in six seasons, with the clubs splitting the previous four meetings. St. Louis won the 2006 mchup against the Packers Lambeau Field, but Green Bay returned the favor in St. Louis in The 2007 win came with some history, as the Packers clinched a firstround bye for the first time since The game will mark the team s first mchup against new Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo, who last coached against the Packers as defensive coordinor of the New York Giants in the 2007 NFC Championship Game. Not including San Francisco s Mike Singletary, who took over in 2008 on an interim basis before landing the job in the offseason, Spagnuolo is one of five new head coaches the Packers will face in Mon., Oct. 5 Minnesota, 7:30 p.m., ESPN Green Bay makes its annual trip to the HHH Metrodome in Week 4 for a Monday night contest against the Vikings. It is Green Bay s first trip to the Metrodome for a Monday night game since The two teams met on Monday night for their first mchup last season too, th time coming in Week 1. The Packers hold a slight advantage ( , including playoffs) in the all-time series. This mchup marks game No. 97 in the border rivalry. The defending division champions broke a string last season of seven straight years when either the Packers or Bears won the NFC North/ Central. This year, Minnesota is working against history again, trying to become the first team other than Chicago or Green Bay to win back-toback division crowns in three decades. The Vikings were the last to do it, in the seasons, which concluded a string of six straight division championships for Minnesota in the Bud Grant era. Green Bay s one-point loss in the Metrodome last season was Head Coach Mike McCarthy s first loss to Minnesota. He is now 5-1. Sun., Oct. 11 Bye Week Sun., Oct. 18 vs. Detroit, 12 p.m., FOX This will be the first game against the new-look Lions. The only team in the division with a new head coach, the Lions will now be led by former Tennessee defensive coordinor Jim Schwartz, who takes over the league s first 0-16 team. Though his identity won t be known for another two weeks, the Packers will be playing against the top pick in the 2009 draft. Whether it is a franchise quarterback, offensive lineman or defensive player remains to be seen. McCarthy is 6-0 all-time against the Lions and has continued the dominion of Detroit in the ste of Wisconsin. Green Bay has won 18 games in a row over Detroit played in the ste of Wisconsin (including the 1994 NFC Wild Card playoff). With the mid-october kickoff, Detroit won t have to deal with the elements of Lambeau Field. The Lions had played in Green Bay in December each of the last five years. Sun., Oct. 25 Cleveland, 12 p.m., FOX A rare trip indeed, this will mark Green Bay s first visit to Cleveland since 1995, the only league city the Packers haven t traveled to in th span. Since then, the two teams have met only twice, in 2001 and 2005 Lambeau Field. These two teams will play in the preseason opener this summer, Aug. 15 in Green Bay. New Browns coach Eric Mangini coached against the Packers in 2006 while with the New York Jets, a Jets win. One of the quarterbacks on the Browns roster is Brady Quinn, who happens to be the brother-in-law of Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk. Should Quinn be Cleveland s starter for this game, the family members will go head to head for the first time in the NFL, and the first time since Hawk s final college game for Ohio Ste, the Fiesta Bowl against Notre Dame following the 2005 season. Sun., Nov. 1 vs. Minnesota, 12 p.m., FOX Green Bay wraps up its 2009 series against Minnesota in Week 8 Lambeau Field. The Packers have defeed the Vikings in four of the last five regularseason mchups Lambeau Field. In last season s game Lambeau Field, QB Aaron Rodgers established a career high with a completion percentage of 81.8%, the second highest mark in NFL history by a quarterback (min. 20 tempts) in his first career start. 12 of the last 13 regular-season games between the two clubs have been decided by seven points or loss, with the lone exception being Green Bay s 34-0 shutout against the Vikings Lambeau Field in Sun., Nov. 8 Tampa Bay, 12 p.m., FOX Green Bay makes a return trip to Tampa, where it lost last season. Last season s le-september trip to Tampa is most remembered for Rodgers shoulder injury, which he played through the next several weeks despite missing significant practice time. The Packers have won only once in Tampa in their last seven tempts, th coming in 2003, when the Bucs were coming off their Super Bowl triumph. Sun., Nov. 15 vs. Dallas, 3:15 p.m., FOX A longtime nemesis, the Cowboys have been the Packers 11 times in the last 13 meetings (including playoffs), with both of Green Bay s wins coming Lambeau Field, in 1997 and This marks the third straight year the teams will do btle in the regular season, with all three coming on nional television. It is the first time in Packers history th they will host the Cowboys Lambeau Field in back-to-back seasons. Last season, Dallas won Lambeau Field for the first time in franchise history (1-5). In addition, Wisconsin nive and Cowboys QB Tony Romo is 2-0 against the Packers as a starter. 66

7 Sun., Nov. 22 vs. San Francisco, 12 p.m., FOX A frequent foe through the 1990s and the early part of this decade, the 49ers and Packers have met just once since In McCarthy s first year in Green Bay, he returned to the place he was offensive coordinor the previous year and posted a key victory th began the Packers four-game winning streak to close the 2006 season. Including playoffs, the Packers have won six consecutive games over the 49ers in Green Bay. It will be interesting to see how San Francisco s new head coach, Mike Singletary, views the mchup from a personal perspective. A Hall of Fame middle linebacker for the rival Bears for 12 seasons ( ), Chicago was 15-7 against the Packers when Singletary played there, including an eight-game winning streak from He d certainly like to continue th dominance over an old arch-rival as a head coach. Thurs., Nov. 26 Detroit, 11:30 a.m., FOX Green Bay plays on Thanksgiving for the 33rd time in franchise history, and for the fourth time this decade it will face the Lions on the holiday. All-time on the holiday, Green Bay is , including a mark in Detroit. The two division rivals played for 13 consecutive seasons on Thanksgiving, from , before the league began roting opponents for the Lions. Overall, Green Bay has won six of the last eight mchups in Detroit. Its current six-game winning streak over the Lions is the longest winning streak in the series since the Lions won 11 straight games from The final game on the season against the Lions, it marks game No. 161 in the Detroit-Green Bay series. No other NFL teams have played every year since 1932, when the Packers first met the Lions, then known as the Portsmouth (Ohio) Spartans. Mon., Dec. 7 vs. Baltimore, 7:30 p.m., ESPN Only the fourth game between the two teams, this marks the first Monday Night Football game Lambeau Field in the month of December. Green Bay has won both previous mchups (1998 and 2001) Lambeau Field. In the 2001 mchup, the Packers knocked off the reigning Super Bowl champions Lambeau Field, Then, in 2005, the Packers were blown out on a Monday night in Baltimore, The game included the first significant playing time for Rodgers in his career, and it wasn t pretty. In relief of Favre, he completed a respectable 8-of-15 passes for 65 yards but threw one interception, was sacked three times, and lost two fumbles, the second of which was returned for the game s final touchdown. Rodgers obviously has come a long way since th rookie outing, and he s finally getting a chance to face the Ravens again. *Sun., Dec. 13 Chicago, 12 p.m., FOX Green Bay wraps up the season series against Chicago, and its games against the NFC North, with the Week 14 mchup in Chicago. The le-season trip to Chicago is getting to be a routine for Green Bay marks the sixth consecutive year the Packers will play in Chicago in December or ler. Though they ve lost two consecutive games Soldier Field, Green Bay has still won 12 of the last 16 meetings in the Windy City. All-time Soldier Field, Green Bay is an even Chicago is the one division team th seems to have the Packers number since the arrival of Mike McCarthy. Green Bay is undefeed against Detroit (6-0) and 5-1 against Minnesota, but only 2-4 against the Bears since *Sun., Dec. 20 Pittsburgh, 12 p.m., FOX The defending Super Bowl champions, with two league titles in the past four years, have played the Packers just once in the last 10 seasons - a 2005 meeting Lambeau Field won by the visitors, 20-10, during Pittsburgh s first championship season of this decade. When the Packers opened the 2007 preseason in Pittsburgh, it marked the first time in his entire NFL coaching career th McCarthy coached a game in his hometown, so this will be the first such regular-season contest. The Packers haven t had the reigning Super Bowl winners on the schedule since 2003, when they played the champs for the third straight year - and defeed them all, being Baltimore in 2001, New England in 2002 and Tampa Bay in The only other time the Packers, since winning their last title in Super Bowl XXXI, have played the most recent Super Bowl winner the following season was in 1999, when they lost to Denver. It s been nearly 40 years since Green Bay last played in Pittsburgh in the month of December (1970). *Sun., Dec. 27 vs. Setle, 12 p.m., FOX Another familiar foe lands on the schedule in Setle, now under the direction of coach Jim Mora Jr. Including two playoff contests, the two teams have met six times in the last six years, with the Packers going 5-1 in those games, the only loss a setback on Monday Night Football in Setle in With Mike Holmgren stepping down as head coach in Setle after last season, this meeting will be the first Packers-Seahawks mchup without Holmgren as one of the two teams coaches since a 1990 contest in Milwaukee. The Seahawks would probably like to forget their last trip to Lambeau Field, a loss in the NFC Divisonal playoff game in January Green Bay also defeed Setle last season in Week 6, one of only two road wins on the year. *Sun., Jan. 3 Arizona, 3:15 p.m., FOX Green Bay wraps up the regular season against defending NFC champion Arizona, whom it also plays in the preseason. The Packers last ended the season in a warm-weher clime in 1994 against Tampa Bay. Other than its preseason trip this coming August, Green Bay plays in Arizona for the first time since 2003, when the on-field temperure was over 100 degrees and the Packers lost to the Cardinals for the first time since The temperure, officially recorded as 102 degrees, stands tied for the warmest game the franchise has ever played in, mching a 1978 trip to San Diego in September. Green Bay is ding back to 1955 against the Cardinals franchise (loced in Chicago prior to 1960, in St. Louis until 1988 and then in Arizona since 1994), including a 1982 playoff win. The teams last met in 2006 Lambeau Field, when the Packers played a decidedly different Arizona team. Dynamic WR Larry Fitzgerald was inactive for the contest, and the Cardinals were quarterbacked by rookie Mt Leinart, not two-time league MVP Kurt Warner. * Start time and broadcast may shift due to NFL flexible scheduling 7
