1 TEAM USA Game Notes 2014 Olympic Winter Games Sochi, Russia USA ( ) vs. FIN ( ) Saturday, Feb. 22, :00 p.m. Bronze-Medal Game TONIGHT S GAME -- The U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Team takes on Finland tonight in the bronze-medal game of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games at Bolshoy Ice Dome. Team USA is the home team and will wear its blue jerseys. The U.S. has played in one previous bronze-medal game in the Olympics, that in 1992 when it dropped a 6-1 decision to Czechosolvakia. Team USA is seeking its 12th medal all-time in the Olympic Winter Games. BACK-TO-BACK MEDALS -- With a win tonight, the U.S. will have won back-to-back medals in the Olympic Winter Games for the first time since 1956 and In addition, it would mean that Team USA has medaled in three of the last four Olympic Winter Games, its most successful period of time since back-to-back-to-back medals in 1952 (silver), 1956 (silver) and 1960 (gold). QUICK IN GOAL -- Jonathan Quick will get the call in goal tonight for the U.S. He is 3-1 in the Olympic tournament (.947, 1.47) and is coming off a 36-save performance in Team USA s 1-0 loss last night to Canada in the semifinals. ALL-TIME VS. FINLAND -- The U.S. is against Finland all-time in Olympic competition, including a 6-1 victory in the most recent meeting between the teams in the semifinals of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The U.S. and Finland will meet for the fourth straight Olympic Winter Games here tonight. Team USA has won two of the last three match-ups... The U.S. and Finland met in the bronze medal game of the 2013 IIHF Men s World Championship on May 19, 2013, in Stockholm, Sweden, with Team USA earning a 3-2 shootout victory. Alex Galchenyuk scored in the bottom of the fourth round of the shootout, his second goal in the shootout, to lift the U.S... Team USA s roster is filled with players that have won medals at various levels of IIHF World Championships (men s senior/olympics, junior, U18). Three players, however, are looking to earn their first medal in international play, including Max Pacioretty, Blake Wheeler, and Paul Martin. - LAST TIME OUT -- Jonathan Quick made 36 saves, but the U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Team fell to Canada, 1-0, in the semifinals of the Olympic Winter Games. It was Team USA s first loss of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Ryan Suter led all players in time on ice (26:11) and Zach Parise recorded a game-high eight shots on goal. - LINEUP TONIGHT -- The U.S. will utilize the same lineup it did last night against Canada in the semifinals. Nondressing players include Derek Stepan, Paul Martin, and Jimmy Howard.

A printed media guide is not available. - ROSTER NUGGETS -- The 2014 U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Team includes 13 returnees from the silver medal-winning 2010 U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Team. The 25 members of Team USA represent 17 NHL teams and seven states. The New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues each have three players. Minnesota is the home state for the most U.S. Olympians (eight). The U.S. roster includes 15 first-round draft choices, including Patrick Kane, the No. 1 overall selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Twenty members of Team USA played U.S. college hockey, with the University of Wisconsin leading the way with four players. - CAPTAIN AMERICA -- Zach Parise is captain of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Team. Parise, who played for the U.S. at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, is a two-time gold medalist (2002 U18 World Championship, 2004 World Junior Championship). Forward Dustin Brown and defenseman Ryan Suter are serving as Team USA s alternate captains. All three players wear a letter for their respective NHL clubs. Brown is the captain of the L.A. Kings, while Parise and Suter are both alternate captains for the Minnesota Wild. COACHING STAFF -- The U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Team is led by head coach Dan Bylsma, head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Peter Laviolette, captain of the 1994 U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Team and Stanley Cup-winning NHL coach; Todd Richards, head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets; and Tony Granato, assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins, are serving as assistant coaches. - NTDP ROOTS -- Nine members of the U.S. Olympic squad played at USA Hockey s National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich., including Justin Faulk, Cam Fowler, Jimmy Howard, Patrick Kane, Ryan Kesler, Phil Kessel, Kevin Shattenkirk, Ryan Suter and James van Riemsdyk. FAMILY AFFAIR -- Ryan Suter made his Olympic debut in 2010, but he isn t the first member of his family to play for Team USA at the Olympics. Suter s dad, Bob, was a member of the gold medal-winning 1980 U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Team and his uncle, Gary, captured a silver medal with the 2002 U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Team. In addition, Paul Stastny s father, Peter, played for Czechoslovakia at the 1980 Olympic Winter Games and Slovakia at the 1994 Games. YOUNG GUNS -- Of the U.S. 25-man roster, 22 members are under 30 years old. Justin Faulk is the youngest member of Team USA at 21 years old, while Ryan Miller is the oldest at 33 years old. JUNIOR CONNECTION -- Eight members of the U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Team played in either the United States Hockey League or the North American Hockey League, including Ryan Miller, who suited up for the Soo Indians of the NAHL. Oshie scored the deciding goal in the bottom of the eighth round of the shootout to lift the U.S. to an epic 3-2 victory over Russia on Feb. 15. Oshie shot six times in the shootout and converted on four occasions. Oshie shot five times in a shootout in the IIHF Men s World Championship in Cologne, Germany, on May 18, 2010, converting three times, including the game-winner, to help the U.S. to a 3-2 win over Italy in the relegation round... Oshie made the media rounds after the game, including spending 30 minutes in the mixed zone after the game; meeting more media at the Main Press Center with teammates Paul Stastny, James van Riemdsdyk and Cam Fowler for 20 minutes; and then finishing the night at the International Broadcast Center for interviews with Dan Patrick and Al Michaels. Oshie was greeted with enthusiastic applause at the NBC compound at the IBC and stopped for photos with many NBC staffers... Oshie came into the Olympics with approximately 90,000 followers on Twitter and today has more than 240,000. Oshie was trending worldwide on Twitter following the Russia game and received shoutouts from many, including President Obama. BACK IN THE OLYMPICS -- Team USA returns 13 players from its silver medal-winning 2010 Olympic Team, including goaltenders Ryan Miller and Jonathan Quick; defensemen Brooks Orpik and Ryan Suter; and forwards David Backes, Dustin Brown, Ryan Callahan, Patrick Kane, Ryan Kesler, Phil Kessel, Zach Parise, Joe Pavelski and Paul Stastny. TEAM USA EXPERIENCE -- Members of the U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Team have played in a combined 651 games in a U.S. uniform. Ryan Suter (67), Phil Kessel (56), Dustin Brown (55), Zach Parise (41), Ryan Kesler (37) and James van Riemsdyk (37) lead the pack for the U.S. Most recently, three members of the U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Team -- Justin Faulk, T.J. Oshie and Paul Stastny -- helped the 2013 U.S. Men s National Team capture the bronze medal at the IIHF Men s World Championship. - TEAM USA HOST -- Nikita Evsey is the team host for the 2014 U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Team. He lives in Minsk, the capital of Belarus and is fluent in English, Belorussian and Russian. Evsey founded a marketing agency called Eting Mark Agency and also works as a lecturer at Belarusian National Technical University. - INTERNATIONAL HONORS -- Ten members of Team USA have received directorate awards or have been selected to media all-star teams at IIHF tournaments. The list includes goaltender Ryan Miller, who was awarded most valuable player, best goaltender and all-star honors at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and forward Zach Parise, who was a media all-star pick at the 2010 Olympics.

In addition, players have been taking in other events, both in the coastal and mountain clusters, since their arrival... Zach Parise, Ryan Suter and Patrick Kane appeared on Today on NBC with Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie on Feb. 12 and also stopped for an interview with The Weather Channel s Al Roker and a photo with Access Hollywood s Billy Bush... Zach Parise and Ryan Suter sat down with Amy Kobach of Good Morning America on Feb. 14 at the Main Press Center and then journeyed to the International Broadcast Center to do an interview with NBC s Rebecca Lowe. Suter and Parise met Nastia Luikin in the NBC commisary and also chatted with NBC Sports executive producer Sam Flood... Ron DeGregorio, president of USA Hockey; Dave Ogrean, executive director of USA Hockey; and Gavin Regan, vice president of USA Hockey and chair or the organization s International Council, are all in Sochi and will be here through the duration of the Olympic Winter Games... The 2014 U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Team includes five Ryans (Callahan, Kesler, Suter, McDonagh and Miller). Incidentally, the name Ryan means little king.... The U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Team stays in the Olympic Village... U.S. general manager David Poile turned 64 on Feb. 14. Poile is recovering from injury suffered after getting hit with a puck in St. Paul on Feb. 6 and will not be with the team here in Sochi... Both times the U.S. has won the gold medal in the Olympics, its journey has included a victory over Czechoslovakia... Ryan Suter s father, Bob, who helped the U.S. to a gold medal in men s ice hockey in 1980, arrived in Sochi on Feb Patrick Kane had his four-game Olympic point streak end on Sunday (Feb. 16) vs. Slovenia... T.J. Oshie and Jonathan Quick appeared on Today Monday (Feb. 17). The duo met Olympic silver medalist Andrew Weibrecht (super-g) while on the set. In addition, Oshie s mom, Tina, who watches Today regularly, came along to enjoy the experience. She made such an impression off-camera that host Willie Geist asked her to come on the show at the top of the 9 o clock hour to chat. She was tracked down by the USA Hockey PR staff at the women s hockey semifinal game between the U.S. and Sweden and agreed to come back across Olympic Park to be on the show... Captain Zach Parise and alternate captain Ryan Suter were back on Today Monday (Feb. 17) as well, handing out mittens to the crowd and doing a fun segment on the Russian language with Al Roker. The duo left there and did an interview with Lester Holt for NBC s afternoon primetime show and then visited the FOX studio for an interview with Chris Chelios and Julie Stewart-Binks... Phil Kessel recorded three goals to help the U.S. to a 5-1 win over Slovenia on Sunday (Feb. 16). It was the first hat trick by an American player in the Olympics since John LeClair scored three times in a 6-0 win over Finland on Feb. 15, David Backes and his wife Kelly are big advocates in helping rescue and protect homeless pets nationwide. The duo then went to FOX studios to visit with Julie Stewart- Binks and Chris Chelios... The Team USA training staff has had to move the contents of the team s lockerroom back and forth between rooms six times during the course of the tournament. A PBS documentary on the Paralympic team will air nationally Feb. 24 at 10 p.m. ET. - The ninth annual Labatt Blue/USA Hockey Pond Hockey National Championships took place Feb. 7-9 in Eagle River, Wis. Some 340 teams participated in the event on Dollar Lake. - The seventh edition of Hockey Weekend Across America will take place Feb. 28-Mar. 2. The threeday nationwide celebration of the sport features Wear Your Favorite Jersey Day (Friday), Try Hockey Day (Saturday) and Celebrate Local Hockey Heroes Day (Sunday). This year, nearly 450 rinks across the U.S. have signed up to host a Try Hockey for Free event as part of Saturday s Try Hockey Day. - USA Hockey s National Team Development Program had both its teams competing during the most recent international break. The U.S. National Under-18 Team took first place in the Under-18 Five Nations Tournament, held Feb. 5-9 in Moscow, Russia. The U.S. National Under-17 Team traveled to Sundsvail, Sweden, to play in the Under-17 Five Nations Tournament and came home with a first-place finish. - The U.S. Men s and Women s National Under-18 Teams will compete in their respective IIHF World Championships in the coming weeks.
