1 UPPER ISLAND SOCCER ASSOCIATION UISA Tier 3/House Planning Meeting Saturday June 23, 2018 Quality Inn Bayside in Parksville 11:00am Minutes Present: Rob Jakobsen (UISA Director), Carl Neibel (UISA co-chair), Becky Sunderland (UISA Director), Cheri Tilley (CVUSC), Willow Hartig (MIYSA), Hiromi Tolefson (MIYSA), Jason Coates (HCFC), Travis Cross (AVYSA), John Lee (OYSS), Glen Murphy (GYSA), Jordie Sorenson (CRYSA), Jerret Dickinson (CVUSC), Nova Cleghorn (PRYSA via Webex) Guests: Shelley Clarke (UISA Admin Assistant), Christine Carson (UISA Executive Director) 1) Planning for : preliminary list of Tier 3 teams expected (club reports) - see Appendix 1. CR proposal for U14/15G CR will follow up first by connecting with CVUSC to see if they can pick up a few players there. Review of season dates, composition of season events. See Appendix 2 for district winter and March break dates. See Appendix 3 for season play dates and Jamboree hosts so far. Would like to host one Tier 3 game on Gabriola this year, likely a HCFC team v. a MI or CV team. Comox struggling with permits for Super 8 would like to be able to permit between Super 8 squads at the club, specifically from U12 squads to U13 squads only. Discussion by clubs, including not overplaying permit players and not using permits until roster falls below 10 Action: Christine to send to BC Soccer, asking for special permission to implement for this season. 2) Planning for District events-pacific Development Jamboree and Pac Dev Cup: Discussed with #1. Pac Dev Jamboree events will be held at Arbutus Meadows this year. Some other Jamobree hosts set as well see Appendix 3. PacDev Cup to be held in the fall, FA-style once again. Clubs comfortable allowing pickups if roster drops below 10 (Super8) or 13 (11-aside). Note cannot add Pac Dev Cup preliminary round games to the play dates calendar at this time as we may have divisions of more than 4, which would require programming two preliminary rounds. We will have to wait until cup declarations come in Oct 1. 3) Planning for : no Island Invitational for U13s District clubs not interested in playing 11-aside in Lower Island instead of Island Invitational. Action: Christine and Jason to plan for year-end event at HCFC 4) Coach courses planned for : TD/club report MIYSA - hosting Active Start, HCFC has a number planned, CVUSC could district host SFL? Action: Shelley to survey clubs to get #s needing SFL and make decision 5) Coaching resources Concussion course- last year UISA implemented a suggested concussion course for all coaches. Shelley has built a database of responses so far. Action: Shelley and Christine to forward list of coaches completed to all clubs and link for new coaches to complete. Pocket concussion guides UISA provided for all Tier 3 coaches last year, clubs would like the same this year. Discuss referee concussion awareness and procedures. 6) BC Soccer AGM report and open discussion on changes to soccer organization. Discuss proposed changes that did not pass at BC Soccer AGM (removal of boundaries and player registration to clubs, not teams) and possible implementation of these ideas in a few years time. Clubs encouraged to discuss these ideas and ways we might offer soccer under these new conditions in Upper Island. Discuss UISA team travel to PR. Action: Willow to initiate discussion with BC Ferries to see if we can reduce costs. Discuss UISA involvement in BC SPL, and ways to increase base of Wave activity in Upper Island.
