7 Rockets vs. Giants Saturday January 26th, 2019 Game Time 7:05 pm Game Day Preview: The Kelowna Rockets face the Vancouver Giants for only the fourth time this season. The Rockets are in the seasonal series, with losses of 5-0, 3-1 and 2-1. Overall, the Giants have out-scored the Rockets Nolan Foote and Kyle Topping are the only goal getters against the G-Men. The power play has generated just one goal in 11 chances (11.1%) in the three games. Roman Basran has played in all three games, posting a record with a goals against average of 3.41 and a save percentage of.895. This game also marks the first for defenceman Matt Barberis, who played 168 career games with the Giants after being claimed off waivers at the trade deadline. 11 GAME NOTES JANUARY 26, 2019 REGULAR SEASON GAME #45 VANCOUVER GIANTS at KELOWNA ROCKETS THE STORY SO FAR The Giants are off to a start this season. After going 3-1 in September, the Giants produced an record in October and went 7-3 in November. The Giants capped off the month of December with a 5-3 record. So far in January the Giants are 7-3 and have earned seven straight wins. After posting victories against Kootenay (Jan 6), Kamloops (Jan 12), Victoria (Jan 13), Tri-City (Jan 16), Spokane (Jan 18) Moose Jaw (Jan 19), and Prince Albert (Thursday) the Giants look to make it eight in a row when they battle Kelowna tonight at Prospera Place. OPPOSITION The Kelowna Rockets come into tonight s game with an overall record of Adam Foote s club has won two of their last three games and both wins came against elite teams in the WHL. The Rockets defeated Everett 2-0 on the road Friday before following up with a 3-2 shootout win at home last Saturday against the Prince Albert Raiders. So far this season the Giants are 3-0 against Kelowna and are 2-0 against them in games played at Prospera Place. Davis Koch leads all Giants with a goal and three assists for four points against the Rockets. OH MY KOCH! Davis Koch is in the middle of the best offensive stretch of his WHL career. With 16 points in his last seven games, the Surrey product is feeling right at home in his first full season with the Giants after being acquired at the trade deadline in a trade with Edmonton. Coming into tonight s contest with the Rockets, the 20-year-old is sitting on 18 goals and 31 helpers for 49 points in 44 games. 12 GAME NOTES JANUARY 26, 2019 (CONTINUED) REGULAR SEASON GAME #45 VANCOUVER GIANTS at KELOWNA ROCKETS A NEW REGIME BEGINS - On May 23 rd the Vancouver Giants officially named Barclay Parneta the third General Manager in the history of the Vancouver Giants. Parenta joined G-Men after spending the past eight seasons with the WHL s Tri-City Americans. For the past three seasons, Parneta served as their Assistant GM and Head Scout and for the five seasons prior he worked as their Prospect Development Coach and Head Scout. Just over a month later the Giants named Michael Dyck Head Coach. Dyck has 14 seasons worth of coaching experience in the WHL including a four-year stint ( ) as Head Coach of the Lethbridge Hurricanes. During his tenure with the Hurricanes, Dyck led his team to a berth in the 2008 league finals and accumulated a record of He previously served as an assistant coach with the Vancouver Giants from Then in July the G-Men announced the hiring of former NHLer Jamie Heward as Associate Coach. Heward spent the previous six seasons with the Swift Current Broncos as an Assistant Coach and helped guide them to a 2018 WHL Championship.
