2 Mission Statement To establish a sustainable and reputable hockey program that provides an opportunity for student athletes to continue to play in a structured and competitive environment while gaining valuable life experiences. 3 Roles & Responsibilities Assistant Director Recreational Services The Assistant Director Recreational Services is responsible for overseeing all club sports along with other aspects of the athletic department. This is our organizations main point of contact and liaison between our program and all resources, personnel, and related items at the college. Working directly with the Head Coach/General Manager and the President of Hockey Operations in ensuring all roles, responsibilities and tasks are assigned and completed in pursuit of fulfilling the organizations mission and goals. Head Coach / General Manager The Head Coach/General Manager is responsible for the full year management of the entire organization and team. Working directly with the Assistant Director of Recreational Services and the President of Hockey Operations in ensuring all roles, responsibilities and tasks are assigned and completed in pursuit of fulfilling the organizations mission and goals. Included in the Head Coach / General Manager responsibilities is creating and executing the curriculum for the development of the players in support of the teams mission statement, selecting and training additional personnel to support improving the teams on ice performance, handling the recruiting efforts and related tasks and events, monitor all budgetary activities related to the team and organization, act as the primary contact for league matters including scheduling for games and practices, lead all aspects for the Friends of, media relations including print, social media, website design and content. President of Hockey Operations The President of Hockey Operations is responsible for overseeing the seasonal operation of the organization and team. Working directly with the Head Coach / General Manager and the Assistant Director of Recreational Services in ensuring all roles, responsibilities and tasks are assigned and completed in pursuit of fulfilling the organizations mission and goals. Included in the President s responsibilities is acting as the primary liaison between the administration and coaching staff, and the players, creation and implementation of a school and community service activity each season, assisting with coordinating players support of the team s fundraising events, contributing to team media and promotional activities, fulfilling all required administrative tasks as requested by the Assistant Director Recreational Services and maintaining consistent and open communication regarding all team activities, implementing the end of season banquet for players, overseeing any official or unofficial activities that derive from a collaboration of players and could be interpreted as being representative of the team and organization. Vice President of Hockey Operations The Vice President of Hockey Operations is tasked with supporting the President of Hockey Operations in the seasonal operation of the team and organization. Tasks and responsibilities will vary and be determined by the President of Hockey Operations each season. All aspects of the President s role will require assistance to ensure a successful season and meeting the goals and responsibilities for the organization.

4 Community Service The Community Service Project is a team project that provides an opportunity for players to develop a better understanding of the role civic activities have in society, to make a contribution to a community service or charity, and to learn and apply the principles of the numerous components of project management. The purpose of the Community Service Project is to provide an opportunity for the players to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating a community service project. Lead by the President of Hockey Operations a Community Service Project will be required each semester with one focusing on the Durango community and the other on the Fort Lewis College community. The range and scope of the projects will be under and the guidance of the President and approved by the Head Coach / General Manager. Kyle Adams Memorial Scholarship This award is given at the end of each season to a player that best exemplifies through his character and actions a genuine effort of support and consideration for the wellbeing of his fellow teammates, team, organization and school. The recipient is determined by a committee made up of the coaching staff and the President of Hockey Operations and will provide a scholarship for the following season covering the entire player s fee. Friends of FLC Hockey Friends of FLC Hockey are a collection of individuals and businesses whose main goal is to assist the team and organization with sourcing additional resources and funding in support of our goals and objectives. They play a critical role in closing the gap between the limitations in school resources and what is needed to build and maintain a successful program each season. Without the generous support of our friends we would not be able to build the value in the organization and share that with the Durango and Fort Lewis College communities. 5 Junior Skyhawks Program Skyhawks website hosting & related costs FLC Game Sponsors FLC Game Sponsors are available each season and are an important part of the operation of the team and at the same time offer a unique and exclusive opportunity for local businesses to market to the campus and Durango community. Fort Lewis College hockey games are one of the most popular events on campus and crowds of nearly four hundred students on a Friday night game are not uncommon. Sponsorships are available for each home game and the promotion includes redeemable discounts printed on game tickets, business highlighted throughout the game by the public address announcer, highlighted on ice intermission activities, and other options based on the nature of the business. Please contact the General Manager / Head Coach for more information. Junior Skyhawks Program The intent of the Junior Skyhawks program is to foster collaboration and support of the Durango Youth Hockey Association. Supported by various activities and programs throughout the season the aim is to increase the level of participation in youth hockey and attendance at the Fort Lewis College hockey games. Please contact the General Manager for more information Player Information Commitment to the Team & Organization The overall success of the team and organization is dependent on the commitment of each player to the scheduled on and off ice sessions. The following policy applies to all players unless an exception is made by a review of the Head Coach and President of Hockey Operations. Attending scheduled practice is required and should seldom conflict with academic requirements and/or schedule. As a result the following policy applies. Players are able to miss up to three practices per semester without it having any impact on their playing time for games as long as you notify the head coach prior to the start of the scheduled practice. Failure to do so results in an automatic suspension for the first period of the following game. The second violation in the same semester results in a two period suspension and the third

6 violation a full game suspension. Subsequent infractions will result in a full game suspension until the end of the semester or season. Player Fee In order to support the operation of the team it is necessary that each player that participates in practices and any portion of games pay a $750 player fee to assist the team with related expenses. Failure to submit your player fee as indicated in the below schedule may result in the inability to participate in practices, games, or other related team events. Certain exceptions can be made upon request and players should speak with the General Manager for more information. 1 st payment of $250 required by September 13, nd payment of $250 required by October 11, 2017 Final payment of $250 required by January 9, 2018 Fundraising Players are an important part of the fundraising efforts for the team and organization. They collaborate directly with the President of Hockey Operations on special events, tickets sales, and promotional activities to raise important revenue that helps fund the teams operations. By being a member of the team each player needs to assist in all fundraising activities in some capacity as coordinated by the President. This includes but is not limited to the following items: - Participation in promoting special events and ticket sales on campus by attending activities as scheduled and coordinated by the President of Hockey Operations. - Each player needs to sell at least ten tickets for each set of home games in order to participate in Friday s game of that weekends scheduled games. - Support special events that occur one or more times each semester by participating in meetings, aligning resources, and being present the day of the event to assist. Community Service The President of Hockey Operations is tasked with completing a community service project each semester during the season and players are actively involved in assisting in ensuring it is completed. Projects vary greatly from each semester but one is focused on the campus community, the other on the Durango community. The goal is to set an example for others to follow by supporting causes in need where we can help in some way. Individual participation will vary but it is each player s responsibility to be involved in some capacity as determined by the President. If a player choses to not participate they will not be able to play in the next scheduled game after project date. Each project needs to be approved by the General Manager before it can be scheduled.
