BU is starting a stretch of three games in five days. SERIES HISTORY The Terriers and Huskies have just four prior meetings and BU is undefeated in them (3-0-1). Last season in Hockey East play, the teams skated to a 4-4 draw at Agganis Arena on Nov. 8 before the Terriers posted a 5-2 road victory two weeks later. In the first-ever tilt between the two schools on Nov. 17, 2013, BU posted a 4-1 home win. Last year s meeting at the XL Center was the first time since 2001 (at Yale) that BU played in Connecticut. The Terriers had last taken the ice at the old Hartford Civic Center in January of 1981 at the Colonial Bank Invitational. FORMER WHALER RETURNS Boston University assistant coach and former Hartford Whalers star Scott Young returns to the old Hartford Civic Center. Young, who won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Colorado Avalanche, made his NHL debut with the Whalers in 1988 and played 197 games for them over four seasons before being traded to the Penguins. Freshman Max Letunov leads the team in both points (8) and goals (5) while sophomore Spencer Naas (2g, 2a) and freshman Tage Thompson (4a) have added four points apiece. Sophomore goaltender Rob Nichols has both UConn wins to his credit and sports a 2.01 goals-against average to go along with a.917 save percentage. The Huskies have converted on just two of their 17 power-play opportunities thus far this season. Former BU co-captain Joe Pereira is in his third season as an assistant coach for the Huskies. BEST VS. HUSKIES Senior Danny O Regan has enjoyed a great deal of success in his four career games against UConn, tallying eight points on four goals and four assists. Classmate Ahti Oksanen has posted four points (2g, 2a) in three contests versus the Huskies. SATURDAY AT AGGANIS Freshman Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson and sophomore Brandon Fortunato scored power-play goals in the third period to lift Boston University to a 4-2 victory over visiting Connecticut in the Hockey East opener UCONN STATISTICAL LEADERS SCORING Points Max Letunov 8 Goals Max Letunov 5 Assists Tage Thompson 4 PPG Spencer Naas 2 GWG Max Kalter, Max Letunov 1 PIM Derek Pratt 8 Shots Shawn Pauly 16 +/- David Drake, Tage Thompson +3 GOALTENDING GP Rob Nichols 3 GAA Rob Nichols 2.01 SV% Rob Nichols.917 Wins Rob Nichols 2 SO None Five-Time National Champion (1971, 1972, 1978, 1995, 2009)

BU freshman Ryan Cloonan scored the lone goal in the first period. The Huskies responded with the only tally of the middle stanza to create a 1-1 tie. Forsbacka Karlsson broke the tie with a power-play marker - his first collegiate goal - from the inside edge of the left circle at the 5:50 mark of the third. Fortunato doubled the lead exactly three minutes later with a goal from the foot of the right circle off a nice feed from senior Ahti Oksanen during a five-minute UConn major. With Rob Nichols pulled in favor of an extra attacker, UConn s Max Letunov scored his second goal of the night to make it 3-2 with 23.6 seconds remaining in regulation. Sophomore Brandon Hickey sealed the victory with a long empty-netter thanks to senior Danny O Regan s third assist of the night. Senior Sean Maguire picked up his first win of the season in the BU goal with a 16-save performance. BU held a shot advantage as Nichols turned aside 29 of the Terriers shots on the night. BU went 2-for-5 on the power play and successfully killed off all four of its penalties. LAST SEASON S SERIES Boston University held two leads and erased two deficits but ended up skating to a 4-4 draw with visiting Connecticut last Nov. 8 at Agganis Arena. Danny O Regan scored 35 seconds into the contest and then gave the Terriers the lead again at 4-3 with 4:17 left in regulation. The Huskies, however, drew a penalty soon after and capitalized, creating the fourth and HEAD TO HEAD tie of the contest, which was the first-ever Hockey East tilt between the two schools. Brien Diffley potted his first collegiate goal for the Terriers and also added an assist while Mike Moran also scored. Two weeks later, Ahti Oksanen scored two goals and added an assist to lead BU to a 5-2 road win over UConn at the XL Center. Cason Hohmann, O Regan and Nick Roberto also found the back of the net for BU. TERRIERS TOP WISCONSIN IN HOME OPENER Boston University overcame an early Wisconsin goal to earn a 4-1 victory over the Badgers in its home opener on Oct. 17 at Agganis Arena. It was a five-banner night at Agganis, as the Terriers had a pregame ceremony to honor the accomplishments (Beanpot, Hockey East regular season & tournament titles, Hobey Baker, Frozen Four) of last year s impressive squad. BU found itself down quickly, however, as the Badgers scored on their third shot of the contest. The Terriers didn t let their break their spirits, as they peppered the Wisconsin goal throughout the night en route to a commanding shot advantage. Sophomore Brandon Fortunato scored the game-winning goal on the power play and added an assist. Classmate Connor LaCouvee made 17 saves to pick up the win in goal. Freshman Ryan Cloonan notched a pair of assists as 10 Terriers earned at least one point on the night. Senior Matt Lane tied the contest early in the middle period with his second goal in as many games. 3 IN THE SEASON OPENER Freshman Charlie McAvoy s first collegiate goal created a late tie but Union quickly regained the lead and added an empty netter to post a 5-3 contest over BU in the season opener on Oct. 10 at Messa Rink. Freshman Ryan Cloonan also notched his first goal as a Terrier, giving the visitors a 2-1 lead after the first. Junior Matt Lane provided BU s first goal of the season, answering an early tally by the Dutchmen, and classmate Doyle Somerby picked up a pair of assists. BU held a shot advantage but spent just 2:09 on the power play. Union got goals from five different players and went 1-of-6 on the power play. Senior Sean Maguire recorded 26 saves in goal for the Terriers, who dressed all seven members of their freshman class. Alex Sakellaropoulos made 31 saves for Union. SOPHOMORE OFF TO STRONG START Sophomore Brandon Fortunato has four points (2g, 2a) in two games this season. He is the only defenseman in the country currently averaging two points per game. PEPPERING THE NET The Terriers have outshot their opponents by a margin thus far this season. Three Terriers have recorded at least 13 shots thus far with freshman Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson leading the way with 14. Forsbacka Karlsson s average of 4.67 shots per game is currently the most of any freshman forward in the country. PRESEASON HONORS Seniors Danny O Regan and Matt Grzelcyk were named to CHN s Preseason All-America Second Team. MOVING UP THE CHARTS Danny O Regan currently has 114 career points. Northeastern s Kevin Roy (126) is the only active player in the country with more. If O Regan duplicates his 50-point season from a year ago, he will finish his career tied for 13th on BU s all-time scoring list. He needs 34 points to become BU s top point-scorer since O Regan is one goal shy of becoming just the 57th Terrier to reach 50 career tallies. GRIZZLED VETERAN Matt Grzelcyk had 38 points (10g, 28a) as a junior, the third-most in a season by a BU defenseman in the past 20 years. Chris O Sullivan has had the most in that span with 47 ( ). Amongst blueliners, Grzelcyk ranked first nationally in plus-minus (+32) and fourth in points per game (0.93). (MOST OF) THE GANG S ALL HERE Fifteen of BU s top 18 point-scorers from last season are back for the season. In all, 13 BU players who played 37 games or more last season return. YOUTH MOVEMENT BU has the second-youngest roster in the country with the average age as of Oct. 1 being 20 years, 179 days. Freshman defenseman Charlie McAvoy is the youngest player in the nation, as he won t turn 18 until Dec. 21. RATED ROOKIES This year s Terrier freshmen were named the third-best incoming class in the nation by College Hockey News. BU adds four forwards (Bobo Carpenter, Ryan Cloonan, Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson, Jordan Greenway), two defensemen (Charlie McAvoy, Shane Switzer) and goaltender Max Prawdzik to its roster this season. Greenway and McAvoy all helped Team USA capture the gold medal at the Under-18 World Championships. Forsbacka Karlsson (BOS) and Greenway (MIN) were both seleceted in the second round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. McAvoy participated in the 2015 CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game on Sept. 24 and is expected to be a first-round pick in next year s NHL Draft. FRESHMAN LEADS THE PACK AGAIN In each of the past three seasons, a freshman has led the Terriers in scoring. In , Danny O Regan became the first Terrier rookie since Tony Amonte in to finish first on the team in points, scoring 38 (16g, 22a). The following year, Robbie Baillargeon posted a team-best 27 points (10g, 17a). Last season, Jack Eichel set the program record for points by a freshman with 71 (26g, 45a) - a total that ranked fifth all-time at BU. DISCIPLINED Under David Quinn, BU has had its two lowest penalty-minute averages since the campaign. The Terriers averaged 11.4 penalty minutes per game last season. BU averaged just 10.8 penalty minutes per contest in after averaging at least 15 penalty minutes per game in each of the previous five seasons. THIRD-PERIOD DOMINANCE The Terriers outscored their opponents in the third period last year after recording just 27 third-period goals in GETTING IN THE WAY As a freshman last year, Brandon Hickey led all Hockey East players in blocked shots with 91. Eleven of those came in the Hockey East final against UMass Lowell. No player in the country had more blocks than Hickey after the turn of the new year. LOOKING BACK AT LAST SEASON The Terriers were a nation-best (.826) in games away from home last season. For decades, the three programs represented the top three NCAA Division I college hockey conferences in the WCHA (Minnesota), CCHA (Michigan) and Hockey East (BU) until the Big Ten was formed prior to this season. The three schools hold a combined 19 national titles between them.

5 DAVID QUINN HEAD COACH BOSTON UNIVERSITY 89 THIRD SEASON Career Record: After orchestrating the biggest turnaround in Boston University hockey history in , including Hockey East and Beanpot titles and a spot in the national title game, David Quinn enters his third season as the head coach at his alma mater. Last season, the Terriers enjoyed an 18-win improvement from the campaign, marking the fifth-best turnaround in NCAA men s hockey history. BU posted a record with the.744 winning percentage ranking second in the country. After leading BU to its 30th Beanpot crown, Quinn guided the Terriers to the Hockey East regular-season and tournament titles before earning the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA tournament. Quinn became just the fourth men s coach ever to win his first three NCAA tournament games, as the Terriers won the NCAA Northeast Regional before defeating top-ranked North Dakota in the Frozen Four to reach the NCAA title game. He was named runner-up for the Spencer Penrose Award, given annually to the top Division I coach in the nation, and was selected as both the Hockey East and New England Coach of the Year. The former BU associate head coach and Colorado Avalanche assistant was named the 11th head coach in the storied history of BU hockey on March 26, Since returning to campus, Quinn and his staff have strengthened the future of the program by securing commitments from some of the very best prospects in North America. Quinn, who played at BU from , replaced his former head coach and mentor, Jack Parker. An All-Hockey East and All-New England defenseman at BU and a co-captain during his senior year of , Quinn came back to campus in 2004 to become the team s associate head coach, a role he served in for five seasons. Quinn s recruiting efforts were instrumental in helping build BU s 2009 national championship team. During his time as associate head coach, he worked primarily with the team s defensemen, turning the unit into arguably the best in the nation. All six of the defensemen from the 2009 title squad have reached the National Hockey League. After helping the Terriers reach the pinnacle of college hockey, Quinn left to join the Avalanche organization as the head coach of its American Hockey League affiliate in Cleveland, the Lake Erie Monsters. He compiled a record in three seasons with Lake Erie and guided the Monsters to their first-ever playoff berth in He was named an assistant coach on former BU teammate Joe Sacco s staff at Colorado prior to this season. Quinn s coaching career, which began as an assistant at Northeastern University at 1994, has also been highlighted by several successful stints with USA Hockey. Prior to serving as the Terriers associate head coach, he spent two years as head coach of the Under-17 Team. Playing against older opponents, the U17 team qualified for the North American Hockey League playoffs for only the third time in program history, finishing with a record above.500 for the first time ever. The squad owned a 10-3 record in international play, including a first-place finish at the Four Nations Cup in Magnitogorsk, Russia, and at the Under-18 Four Nations Vlado Druzilla in Piestany, Slovakia, where the team played up an age group. For his accomplishments, USA Hockey named Quinn as the 2003 USA Hockey Developmental Coach of the Year. Quinn s coaching career began prematurely, as it was thought he would enjoy an excellent playing career both on the international and professional levels. A member of the U.S. National Junior Team that captured the bronze medal at the 1986 IIHF World Junior Championship, Quinn made himself a strong candidate for the 1988 and 1992 U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Teams. In addition, he was the 13th player selected in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft when the Minnesota North Stars made him their first-round selection. However, his hopes for an Olympic Team berth and a career in the NHL came to an end prior to his senior year at BU when he was diagnosed with a blood disorder called Christmas Disease that ultimately ended his hockey-playing career. After trying to play two seasons of professional hockey, he took the assistant position at Northeastern, where he was responsible for recruiting, off-ice conditioning, scouting and video coordination. In July 1996, Quinn was named the top assistant coach and head recruiter for the University of Nebraska Omaha. There he helped establish the school s first Division I men s ice hockey program, which began playing during the season. Quinn then joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich. The program, designed to prepare student-athletes under the age of 18 for participation on U.S. National Teams and to develop their future hockey careers, focuses its efforts on high-caliber participation on the ice and creating well-rounded individuals off the ice. Quinn served as an assistant coach for the U.S. National Team at four IIHF World Championships -- two with the men s team (2007, 2012) and two with the women s squad (1999, 2000). He helped the women earn the silver medal at both tournaments and also served as an on-ice assistant at the 2001 U.S. Women s Olympic Trials and as a boys coach at the 1995 and 1996 USA Hockey Select Festivals. His involvement with the USA Hockey coaching ranks began in 1995, when he served as a member of the coaching staff for the U.S. Women s Select Camp. A native of Cranston, R.I., Quinn earned a bachelor s degree in sociology from BU in 1989.
