The Terriers are in the midst of their busiest stretch of the season, playing five games in 10 days. All three of BU s games this week are against ECAC teams. BU is on a nation-best five-game unbeaten streak (4-0-1). Tuesday s matchup features the top two players in the country in points per game as BU freshman Jack Eichel is tops at 1.90 and Harvard sophomore Alexander Kerfoot is second at SO FAR, SO GOOD The Terriers won their first four games and are in their first 10 contests, achievements that last happened at BU during the season. BU is ranked first in both national polls for the first time since Nov. 8, The USCHO poll had the Terriers in the top spot back on Feb. 6, The Terriers are only two victories shy of last season s win total of 10. BU has already surpassed last season s Hockey East win total of five. HEAD OF THE CLASS Freshman Jack Eichel leads the nation in points per game (1.90), assists per game (1.20) and plus-minus (+15). A point on Tuesday for Eichel would mark the first 11-game point streak by any Terrier since Chris Drury in the season. On Monday, Eichel was named the Hockey East Warrior Player of the Week after totaling an overtime goal and three assists in BU s two-win weekend. Eichel was also named the HCA National Rookie of the Month for October and is a two-time Hockey East Pro Ambitions Player of the Week. In four games played in October, he totaled eight points (4g, 4a) to help the Terriers post a perfect record in the month. SERIES HISTORY The Terriers and Crimson have played 149 times since the season, and BU holds a (.530) advantage. Of the above, the only rivalry that is older is BC, as the Eagles and Terriers first played during the season. BU and Harvard first met on Dec. 13, 1922, at Boston Arena, with Harvard winning a 2-0 contest. The two teams have played 21 overtime games in the series, and Harvard holds a edge. There have been 12 shutouts and each team has six to its credit. SCOUTING THE CRIMSON Harvard is off to its best start since the season, when it went in its first eight games. McNally leads all Division I defensemen in points per game at Senior Steve Michalek has started all eight games thus far and his.951 save percentage HEAD TO HEAD ranks third in the country and his 1.47 goalsagainst average ranks fourth. Ted Donato is in his 11th season at the helm of his alma mater and has a record of O REGAN BROTHERS FACE OFF AGAIN Tuesday s game will pit BU junior Danny O Regan against his brother, Tommy - a senior at Harvard. Tommy s Crimson has won all four meetings between the brothers. When they faced off against each other for the first time ever in the season, they did not disappoint, each posting three points. They are the sons of Tom O Regan, a Cambridge native who co-captained the BU squad and was Beanpot MVP in Both were born in Germany when their father was in the middle of an 11-season European playing career after appearing in 61 NHL contests with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tommy and Danny played together at St. Sebastian s before Tommy went on the USHL for the season. Tom and Danny were the second-ever father and son to both play under Jack Parker at BU. Mike Eruzione s son, Mike Jr., was on the squad for part of the season and appeared in one exhibition contest. LAST SEASON VS. 3 cut a three-goal deficit to one, but Harvard s Sean Malone notched a shorthanded goal while killing off a late major penalty and added an empty netter. The teams later met in the consolation round of the Beanpot, where the Crimson posted a 6-2 win. The Terriers scored the lone goal of the first period, but Harvard responded with three goals in each of the final two periods. LAST TIME OUT Junior Ahti Oksanen scored two goals and added an assist to lead Boston University to a 5-2 road win over Connecticut on Saturday at the XL Center in Hartford. Senior Cason Hohmann, junior Danny O Regan and sophomore Nick Roberto each found the back of the net for BU. The Terriers scored a power-play goal in each of the first two periods before pushing their lead to 3-0 early in the third. The Huskies put together a rally, however, getting goals 57 seconds apart to make it a one-goal affair with 11:14 left in regulation. BU s top forward line came through down the stretch as O Regan cashed in on rebound off a shot by freshman Jack Eichel with 2:44 left to create a two-goal cushion. Oksanen, who assisted on the O Regan tally, put the finishing touches on the win with an empty netter. BU, which outshot UConn by a tally, got a 20-save performance in goal from junior Matt O Connor. TERRIER NOTES TERRIER TRIO Freshman Jack Eichel ( ), junior Danny O Regan (7-6 13) and senior Evan Rodrigues (3-8 11) are the top three point-scorers in Hockey East play thus far this season. O Regan is on an eight-game point streak (5g, 7a) while Eichel and Rodrigues have six and four multi-point performances this season, respectively. THIRD-PERIOD DOMINANCE The Terriers have outscored their opponents 23-5 in the third period this season. BU did not allow a third-period goal until its fifth game of the season, and by the time BC became the first opponent to do so, the Terriers had already scored 11 third-period tallies. On the flip side, the Terriers have only scored four first-period goals through their first 10 games boston university men s ice hockey O CONNOR OFF TO HOT START Junior goaltender Matt O Connor has won seven of eight starts to kick off the season and has allowed only 13 goals thus far. His 1.62 goals-against average and.943 save percentage rank seventh and eighth amongst Division I goaltenders, respectively. He stopped all 29 shots he faced in his season debut against Michigan State to earn his first career shutout. ROAD WARRIORS BU has won all five of its road games thus far this season. Last year, the Terriers had just one road victory and it did not occur until the regularseason finale at Northeastern. BUNCHED AT THE TOP Junior Danny O Regan (33g, 42a) leads all current Terriers in career points with 75. Senior Evan Rodrigues (24g, 44a) is right behind with 71 (24g, 47a). Senior Cason Hohmann rounds out the top three with 67 points (23g, 44a). YOUTH MOVEMENT BU has the youngest roster in the country with the average age as of opening night being 20 years, 145 days. For the second time in as many years, the Terriers welcome 10 incoming players. The Terriers only have two seniors on the roster, forwards Cason Hohmann and Evan Rodrigues. 17 of the 27 players on the team are underclassmen. (MOST OF) THE GANG S ALL HERE Ten of BU s top 11 point-scorers from last season are back for the season. In all, 12 BU players who played 30 games or more last season return. RATED ROOKIES This year s Terrier freshmen were named the top incoming class in the nation by both College Hockey News and Over The Boards. College Hockey News ranked forward Jack Eichel as the top prospect in the country. He is expected to be one of the top two picks in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. BU added three other forwards (A.J. Greer, Chase Phelps, J.J. Piccinich), four rookie defensemen (Brien Diffley, Brandon Fortunato, Brandon Hickey, John MacLeod) and goaltender Connor LaCouvee to its roster this season. Eichel, Fortunato and MacLeod all helped Team USA capture the gold medal at the Under- 18 World Championships. MacLeod (TBL), Hickey (CGY) and Piccinich (TOR) were all selected in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Eichel was selected to participate in the 2014 CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game on Sept. 25 and took home Player of the Game honors. FRESHMAN LEADS THE PACK AGAIN Robbie Baillargeon had eight points (3g, 5a) in the final eight games last season to be come the second straight freshman to lead BU in scoring. QUALITY WINS Seven of the Terriers 10 wins last season came against teams that finished in the top 16 of the PairWise. DISCIPLINED After averaging at least 15 penalty minutes per game in the previous five seasons, the Terriers averaged just 10.8 penalty minutes per contest last year. It was BU s lowest average since the campaign. The Terriers finished in the top eight nationally in penalty minutes in each of the previous three seasons. CANADIAN CREASE Dating back to the start of the season, the Terriers have had a Canadian start in goal in each of their past 245 contests. The last American to start in goal for BU was Brett Bennett in the 2008 Hockey East semifinals against Vermont. POLL POSITION The Terriers moved up one spot to No. 1 in this week s USA Today/USA Hockey poll and have risen 18 spots over the last seven weeks to grab the top spot in the USCHO.com poll. BU was No. 20 in the USCHO.com preseason poll - its lowest spot to begin a season in the 18-year history of the poll. EARLY HONORS The first weekly Hockey East honors of the season were handed out on Oct. 6 and junior Ahti Oksanen and freshman Jack Eichel were named Warrior Player of the Week and Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week, respectively. Oksanen, playing as a forward for the first time as a collegian, recorded four goals in the Terriers 12-1 exhibition victory over St. Thomas (N.B.) on Oct. 4 at Agganis Arena. All four of Oksanen s goals came in the first 25 minutes. Eichel, who was making his first appearance in a BU jersey, had five primary assists in the win and fed Oksanen the puck on all four of his tallies. Both of them finished the game with a plus-3 rating. GAME RECAPS OVERTIME GOAL CAPS COMEBACK VS. MAINE Freshman Jack Eichel scored 2:20 into overtime to lift Boston University to a thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Maine on Nov. 21 at Agganis Arena. Trailing 2-0 entering the third, the Terriers got on the board with a tally by junior Ahti Oksanen with 15:10 left in regulation. Just over four minutes later, junior Matt Lane tucked a shot inside the left post off a drop pass by sophomore Nick Roberto to knot the game and send it to overtime. In the opening moments of overtime, BU captain Matt Grzelcyk drew a major penalty on Maine s Jordan Leen, who had earlier scored a shorthanded goal to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. The hitting from behind penalty put the Terriers up a player for the remainder of the extra session and Eichel took full advantage of it on a power-play rush. Eichel got the puck from fellow rookie Brandon Fortunato behind the BU net and skated up the left side before getting around a defender. Instead of trying to get past the next defender, Eichel used him as a screen to Maine goaltender Sean Romeo and wristed a shot from the left circle over Romeo s left shoulder to end the game. LAST FRIDAY IN MAINE Each member of the Terriers top forward line scored a goal to help Boston University post a 3-1 road win over Maine on Nov. 14. BU erased an early 1-0 deficit with a powerplay, a go-ahead shorthanded tally and a late empty-netter. Jack Eichel and Danny O Regan each recorded a goal and an assist while Ahti Oksanen buried his second power-play goal of the season. In goal, junior Matt O Connor saved the final 26 shots he faced after senior Connor Leen scored off his own rebound just 1:13 into the contest to give the home team an early lead. Each team recorded 28 shots on the night as Maine got a 26-save performance from Sean Romeo. The Terriers killed off all three of Maine s power plays on the night and went 1-for-4 with the man advantage. BU SETTLES FOR DRAW WITH UCONN Boston University held two leads and erased two deficits but ended up skating to a 4-4 draw with visiting Connecticut on Nov. 8 at Agganis Arena. Danny O Regan scored 35 seconds into the contest and then gave the Terriers the lead again at 4-3 with 4:17 left in regulation. The Huskies, however, drew a penalty soon after and capitalized on it, creating the fourth and final deadlock of the contest, which was the first-ever Hockey East match-up between the two schools. Shawn Pauly and Trevor Gerling each recorded two goals and two assists for the Huskies. Brien Diffley potted his first collegiate goal for the Terriers and also added an assist while Mike Moran notched his second goal in as many games. Jack Eichel earned three primary assists. Making his second start of his rookie year, Connor LaCouvee made 22 saves in goal for the Terriers. VICTORY IN CHESTNUT HILL Senior Evan Rodrigues scored his second goal

5 of the night with 5:46 left in regulation to push Boston University to a wild 5-3 victory over archrival and third-ranked Boston College on Nov. 7 at Conte Forum. BU erased deficits of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 before Rodrigues converted a wraparound tally at the right post to send the visiting Terrier faithful into a frenzy. Mike Moran and Jack Eichel also lit the lamp while rookie Nikolas Olsson added an emptynetter in the final minute to secure the two points. Freshman Brandon Hickey assisted on both the tying and winning goals in the final period and was one of 12 different Terriers to get on Friday s score sheet. Junior goaltender Matt O Connor improved to thanks to a 27-save performance. PROVIDENCE SPLIT The Terriers split a home-and-home series with preseason Hockey East favorite Providence on Oct. 31-Nov. 1, as the road team won both nights. Bolstered by a three-point effort from senior Evan Rodrigues (1g, 2a), the Terriers improved to their best start in 13 years - with a 4-1 victory in Providence on Halloween. The Friars rebounded with a 2-1 win at Agganis Arena on Saturday to hand BU its first loss of the season. BU gave up just 18 shots on Friday, marking the lowest total by an opponent since Vermont mustered only 18 in a 5-0 Terriers win in Burlington on Feb. 24, The Friars scored the first goal of the game on Friday, but it was all BU after that, as the visitors held a substantial advantage in possession time and scored at even strength, on the power play and shorthanded. Freshman John MacLeod tied the game with his first collegiate goal before junior Ahti Oksanen put the Terriers up for good early in the second period. After assisting on the Terriers first two tallies, Rodrigues scored at 13:41 of the middle period. Freshman Jack Eichel closed the scoring with an impressive shorthanded marker at the 3:21 mark of the third. Junior netminder Matt O Connor turned aside 17 shots to earn his third win in as many starts. BU held a commanding shot advantage as PC s Jon Gillies managed to stop 37 shots in a losing effort. BU was unable to recover from a slow start on Saturday and had its perfect start to the season come to an end. Gillies earned first-star honor with a 37-save performance. Shane Luke scored the eventual game-winner and assisted on the Friars other goal. Junior Danny O Regan cut a 2-0 deficit in half with a power-play goal at 4:38 of the third, but that would be the only shot to get past Gillies and the PC defense. In goal, O Connor stopped 31 shots for BU boston university men s ice hockey BU RALLIES TO TOP WOLVERINES Down 2-1 after two periods, Boston University got a game-tying tally from freshman Jack Eichel before junior Matt Lane scored with 3:10 left to play to earn a thrilling 3-2 victory over then-no. 14 Michigan on Oct. 25 at Agganis Arena. Junior Matt O Connor stopped 38 shots to complete an impressive two-win weekend in goal for the Terriers. BU erased deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 before Lane tipped in an offering from freshman Brandon Hickey to send the Agganis crowd into a frenzy at the 16:50 mark of the third. Sophomore Nick Roberto also assisted on the go-ahead goal. Michigan held a shot advantage and got a 31-save performance from sophomore Zach Nagelvoort. Both of the Wolverines goals came on the power play, as the visitors got five chances with man advantage and killed off both of BU s opportunities. TERRIERS BLANK SPARTANS Junior Matt O Connor stopped all 29 shots he faced to earn his first career shutout and classmate Ahti Oksanen provided the lone goal, as Boston University blanked Michigan State, 1-0, to win its home opener. Oksanen backhanded a puck over MSU netminder Jake Hildebrand just 29 seconds into the second period for his first goal of the season. Freshman Jack Eichel and junior Matt Grzelcyk picked up assists on the tally. O Connor and the Terrier defense did the rest, cutting down on MSU s chances throughout the game. BU s penalty kill was a perfect 6-for-6. Hildebrand made 39 saves in goal for the Spartans, who killed off all five of BU s powerplay chances on the night. SUCCESSFUL OPENER Freshman Jack Eichel and junior Danny O Regan combined for seven points (4g, 3a) in the third period to break open a 2-1 game and lead Boston University to an 8-1 road victory over Massachusetts in its season opener on Oct 10. Eichel put up two goals and two assists in his collegiate debut and O Regan matched his career highs in goals (2) and points (3). A 31- save performance by freshman Connor LaCouvee made him a winner in goal in his first game with the Terriers. Sophomore Robbie Baillargeon opened the scoring and freshman Nikolas Olsson provided the eventual game-winner as the Terriers won their season opener for the fifth straight year. Four other Terriers had multi-point efforts as senior Cason Hohmann had a goal and an assist and classmate Evan Rodrigues had three assists. In all, 14 Terriers put up at least point to help the team post its most decisive exhibition win since a 12-0 triumph over Toronto to kick off the season. Junior goaltender Matt O Connor played the first 31:07 of regulation and stopped all 11 shots he faced to pick up the win. Graduate student Anthony Moccia was in net for the final 8:53 of the second and made saves on all six shots he saw. In the third, freshman Connor LaCouvee saw his first action as a BU goalie and stopped six of seven shots. The Terriers scored the first eight goals of the game before allowing the lone St. Thomas goal early in the third period on a power play. Oksanen capped his hat trick by the first minute of the second stanza and then added his fourth tally under four minutes later. SEASON NOTES O CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN Junior defenseman Matt Grzelcyk will serve as captain of the Terriers. The Charlestown native and Boston Bruins draft pick missed the final two months of last season with a shoulder injury. Grzelcyk is the first BU captain from the city limits of Boston since Dorchester s Mark Mullen in BU s two seniors - forwards Cason Hohmann and Evan Rodrigues - are this year s assistant captains. NHL HOPEFULS Seven of the Terriers on this year s roster have been chosen by a professional team in the National Hockey League Entry Draft. The seven players have their rights owned by seven different clubs: Robbie Baillargeon (Ottawa, 2012) Matt Grzelcyk (Boston, 2012) Brandon Hickey (Calgary, 2014) John MacLeod (Tampa Bay, 2014) Danny O Regan (San Jose, 2012) J.J. Piccinich (Toronto, 2014) Doyle Somerby (N.Y. Islanders, 2012) PRO PIPELINE Eight former Terriers made NHL opening-day rosters: Nick Bonino (Anaheim) Alex Chiasson (Ottawa) Charlie Coyle (Minnesota) Eric Gryba (Ottawa) Matt Nieto (San Jose) Kevin Shattenkirk (St. Louis) Brian Strait (N.Y. Islanders) Colin Wilson (Nashville) Nine others took part in NHL preseason training camps and eight (*) are currently on AHL rosters while Ryan Whitney recently signed with Sochi of the KHL: Adam Clendening* (Chicago) Justin Courtnall* (N.Y. Islanders) John Curry* (Minnesota) John McCarthy* (St. Louis) Garrett Noonan* (Nashville) David Van der Gulik* (Los Angeles) David Warsofsky* (Boston) Ryan Whitney (St. Louis) Brandon Yip* (Anaheim) Warsofsky and Van der Gulik were called up by their parent clubs and made their season debuts Oct. 30. Adam Clendening was called up to the Blackhawks on Nov. 18 and scored a goal in his NHL debut on Thursday. In all, 10 players from the national championship team have reached the NHL (Bonino, Colby Cohen, Matt Gilroy, Gryba, Mc- Carthy, Shattenkirk, Strait, Warsofsky, Wilson, Yip). The BU team holds the program record for having the most players eventually reach the NHL at 11. HOCKEY AS A CAREER The Terriers have 15 alumni working in NHL front offices, more than any other school in the country. 93RD SEASON The Terriers are in their 93rd season of intercollegiate play and currently hold a (.623) all-time record. BU s 1,464 wins are only surpassed by Minnesota (1,714 wins - 93 seasons) and Michigan (1,613 wins - 92 seasons). For decades, the three programs represented the top three NCAA Division I college hockey conferences in the WCHA (Minnesota), CCHA (Michigan) and Hockey East (BU) until the Big Ten was formed prior to this season. The three schools hold a combined 19 national titles between them. WELCOME BACK Two former Terriers are back on campus this season to join head coach David Quinn s staff. Former captain Albie O Connell is the team s new assistant coach following three-year stints as an assistant at both Northeastern and, most recently, Harvard. O Connell played in two Frozen Fours (1996, 1997) and helped the Terriers reach the national championship game and claim a Hockey East title as a sophomore. He and his fellow members of the Class of 1999 are one of only four BU classes to win four Beanpots. Former Olympic and NHL standout Scott Young has returned to serve as the director of hockey operations. An inductee in both the Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame and the St. Mark s Athletic Hall of Fame, Young is one of three Terrier hockey alumni to participate in three Olympiads (1988, 1992, 2002) for Team USA and he captured a silver medal with the 2002 squad in Salt Lake City.

7 boston university men s ice hockey DAVID QUINN HEAD COACH BOSTON UNIVERSITY 89 SECOND SEASON Former Boston University associate head coach and Colorado Avalanche assistant David Quinn enters his second season at the helm of the Terriers program. Quinn, who played at BU from , replaced his former head coach and mentor, Jack Parker, retired in 2013 after 40 seasons Since being named the 11th head coach in the storied history of BU hockey on March 26, 2013, Quinn and his staff have strengthened the future of the program by securing commitments from some of the very best prospects in North America. An All-Hockey East and All-New England defenseman at BU and a cocaptain during his senior year of , Quinn came back to campus in 2004 to become the team s associate head coach, a role he served in for five seasons. Quinn s recruiting efforts were instrumental in helping build BU s 2009 national championship team. During his time as associate head coach, he worked primarily with the team s defensemen, turning the unit into arguably the best in the nation. All six of the defensemen from the 2009 title squad have reached the National Hockey League. After helping the Terriers reach the pinnacle of college hockey, Quinn left to join the Avalanche organization as the head coach of its American Hockey League affiliate in Cleveland, the Lake Erie Monsters. He compiled a record in three seasons with Lake Erie and guided the Monsters to their first-ever playoff berth in He then served as an assistant coach on former BU teammate Joe Sacco s staff at Colorado for the season. Quinn s coaching career, which began as an assistant at Northeastern University at 1994, has also been highlighted by several successful stints with USA Hockey. Prior to serving as the Terriers associate head coach, he spent two years as head coach of the Under-17 Team. Playing against older opponents, the U17 team qualified for the North American Hockey League playoffs for only the third time in program history, finishing with a record above.500 for the first time ever. The squad owned a 10-3 record in international play, including a first-place finish at the Four Nations Cup in Magnitogorsk, Russia, and at the Under18 Four Nations Vlado Druzilla in Piestany, Slovakia, where the team played up an age group. For his accomplishments, USA Hockey named Quinn as the 2003 USA Hockey Developmental Coach of the Year. Quinn s coaching career began prematurely, as it was thought he would enjoy an excellent playing career both on the international and professional levels. A member of the U.S. National Junior Team that captured the bronze medal at the 1986 IIHF World Junior Championship, Quinn made himself a strong candidate for the 1988 and 1992 U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Teams. In addition, he was the 13th player selected in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft when the Minnesota North Stars made him their first-round selection. However, his hopes for an Olympic Team berth and a career in the NHL came to an end prior to his senior year at BU when he was diagnosed with a blood disorder called Christmas Disease that ultimately ended his hockey-playing career. After trying to play two seasons of professional hockey, he took the assistant position at Northeastern, where he was responsible for recruiting, off-ice conditioning, scouting and video coordination. In July 1996, Quinn was named the top assistant coach and head recruiter for the University of Nebraska Omaha. There he helped establish the school s first Division I men s ice hockey program, which began playing during the season. Quinn then joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich. The program, designed to prepare student-athletes under the age of 18 for participation on U.S. National Teams and to develop their future hockey careers, focuses its efforts on high-caliber participation on the ice and creating well-rounded individuals off the ice. Quinn served as an assistant coach for the U.S. National Team at four IIHF World Championships -- two with the men s team (2007, 2012) and two with the women s squad (1999, 2000). He helped the women earn the silver medal at both tournaments and also served as an on-ice assistant at the 2001 U.S. Women s Olympic Trials and as a boys coach at the 1995 and 1996 USA Hockey Select Festivals. His involvement with the USA Hockey coaching ranks began in 1995, when he served as a member of the coaching staff for the U.S. Women s Select Camp. A native of Cranston, R.I., Quinn earned a bachelor s degree in sociology from BU in 1989.
