2 EAST PERTH EAGLES WABL Tryouts 2017 'The Western Australian Basketball League endeavors to provide opportunities that enable every player, coach, official and supporter to reach their full potential in Western Australia's elite junior Basketball competition both as an athlete and as a person.' - WABL Commission June 2007 The Western Australian Basketball League (WABL) is WA's elite junior Basketball competition catering for players in the following age groups: U12, U14, U16, U18, U20 (Men) and Open Age (D-League) Games are played on Sunday's over a 16-week home and away season plus four weeks of finals. The season generally commences in the last weekend of April and finishes at the end of September. The WABL is currently comprised of 12 Basketball Associations split into two conferences, one North of the river, the other South. Each conference contains six teams from both the metropolitan and country regions extending from Wanneroo to Southwest (Bunbury). Each team plays two games (one home & one away) against teams within their conference and one game against each team from the opposite conference. 3 WABL Information 2017 The final number of teams East Perth enter the competition will be determined at WABL try outs and only if player numbers permit. We will not enter teams in all divisions if they are not sustainable and competitive. The fourth division teams for U12, U14 & U16 divisions will only be permitted to enter the competition if approved by BWA, this division is not automatically permitted. East Perth will currently be selecting the following teams Boys U12 3 team s boys & 2 girls U14 3 team s boys & 2 girls U16 3 team s boys & 2 girls U18 2 team s boys & 1 girls U20 1 team Men only Selection WABL is an elite competition and we need to ensure we maintain the integrity of the competition. Players that are not selected to play in the final WABL playing squads and show potential may be asked to be a development/train on player with the respective team they were not selected for. Coaches will select teams made in the best interest of the club and the team. Commitment, attitude, athletic ability, desire and dedication are some of the criteria looked at. Teams will be selected at the discretion of the coaches, Head SBL Coaches, Director of Juniors and WABL then ratified by East Perth Executive prior to any announcements being made. To be considered to play in a WABL team, players are invited to try out for a position in a team. We open tryouts for all our Junior Competition players who wish to progress to the next step in their basketball career. Any player wishing to be considered will need to register online. Tryouts will be over two - four sessions and cuts will/may be made throughout this period. Sessions will be held at Morley Sport & Recreation Centre Wellington Rd Morley Please bring a basketball, towel, and water bottle, ensure you arrive 15 mins prior to your session ready to take to the court. Sessions will run on time due to the number of teams and court availability. Registration is compulsory online with payment. If you have any issues with registering online, please contact Rae Berry via admin@eastperth.basketball.net.au. Refer to registration details attached for cost and how to register. Registration fee covers court hire and insurance. No player will be able to take to the court without registration and payment being completed.
