2 Clubs Corner.. Youth Council Baby Shower Thanks to all the clubs who participated in the District wide community service project. We collected 370 items which were given to the Hope Center. Way to go Jefferson County! All Club Managers please let the 4-H office know as soon as your officers are elected for the H year. All New Club Officers If you are elected as President, Vice President, Council Delegate or even a Teen Leader in your club, you are eligible to run for an office for the Jefferson County Youth Council. The application deadline is June 12th. No late applications will be accepted! Grace 4-H collected 60 stuffed animals for the Garth House. They also had a guest speaker from NASA, Mr. Tim Hinson BBQ Fundraiser First a big THANK YOU to Walter, Pam & Kelli Stokes, Mark, Shannon, Korey & Jordyn McCurley, Dale Hunter, Buddy, Tammi & Whitney Choate, Brian Abney, Tyler Landry & Paula Guajardo for working tirelessly all night cooking the meat. You guys helped to make the fundraiser a success!!! We sold 216 dinners and 180 slabs of ribs. Our profit this year was approximately $4,600.Thanks for the support from our 4-Her s, their family and friends for the purchase or donations. Thanks also to St. John Lutheran Church for the use of their facility and the Nome Fire Dept. for the use of their pits. Congratulations to John Darby the winner of the BBQ grill, ticket sold by Kelli Stokes! The BBQ Queen and King will be announced at the Awards program. For those that were the top sales in each club will receive a special invitation.

3 VOLUME 13, ISSUE 5 County Aerospace Project Page 3 The Jefferson County 4-H rocket team consisting of: Cyrus Durham, T-Lee Gant, Julia Kitchen, Tyson McMahon, Joseph Mosley, and Justin Romero, will again compete in the Team America Rocketry Challenge national finals on May 9th outside of Washington, DC!!! Over 700 teams, only the top 100 earn that right. The contest challenges kids 7th to 12th grade to fly an egg to 825 feet exactly for a duration of seconds using a streamer a parachute. See info graphic at right. Congratulations and good luck in DC! 2015 Leadership Lab The 2015 Senior Leadership Lab, Maritime in District 9, is for ages and will be held in Galveston on June 23rd-25th. The purpose of Leadership Lab is intended to help young people develop and practice leadership skills through recreation and education. Activities are designed to build teamwork, knowledge and skills, as well as encourage camaraderie among youth. The registration deadline is May 31st. There will be educational sessions and lots of fun activities like Schlitterbahn and maritime exploration. The cost to participate is $255 which covers t-shirt, lodging, insurance, activities, educational supplies and meals. A free beach towel will given with early registration. If you would like to run for an office on District Council, applications are due by May 22nd to the Extension office. If you are interested, please call the 4-H office,

4 JEFFERSON COUNTY 4-H NEWS Page 4 County Rifle Match On Saturday, April 18th, we had twentynine 4-Her s in the following age groups participate in the County Rifle Match: Junior Patrick Barnett; Daniel Bullock, 3rd place; Ethan Brown, Weston Brown, Jesse Davis, Lane Elrod, Luke Garza, James Lee, 1st place; Seth Miller, 2nd place; Sarah Morton, 4th place; Alyssa Sahualla; Intermediate Justin Barrow, 3rd place; Sage Brammer, Shaylie Brammer, Jase Gault, Blake Makelki, 1st place,; Caden Bullock, 4th place, Anthony Reyes, Shelby Sensat, Trevor Sensat, 2nd place; Senior Colton Austin, 1st place, Lairen Calhoun, 3rd place, Caleb Garza, Jaren Mahon, Andrew Perricone, 2nd place, Joseph Reyes, Cody Sahualla, 4th place, Ashton Sensat, Faith Tyler. Thanks to our coaches Mr. Maxwell & Mr. Powell and congratulations to all our participants. The District Rifle Match will be held on May State Archery Match The State Indoor Archery Match was held on March 20th & 21st in Bay City & Graham, TX. We had two 4- Hers participate: Col- County Dog Show lin Shiff, placed 1st in Barebow. He is a Junior and his 1st year doing Archery. Andrew Perricone, place 2nd in Compound Aided. Andrew is a Senior and this was his 1st year going to State in Archery. Congratulations to you both! Collin Shiff This year was the first year that we ve had a County Dog Show. Thanks to Niesy Bevilacqua our project leader for all her help with this project and Katrina Smith, a judge. There were 3 classes: Costume, Rally and Obedience. We had 4 participants: Colton Austin, 3rd Costume, 4th Rally, 4th Obedience; Justin Barrows, 4th Costume, 3rd Rally, 3rd, Obedience; Elsie Morris-Thomas, 2nd Costume, 1st Obedience and 1st in Rally. Elsie also won Best in Show; Savannah Westbrook, 1st Costume, 2nd Rally, 2nd Obedience.

5 VOLUME 13, ISSUE 5 Page 5 Record Books & Star Awards In order to apply for a Star Award you must do a record book. Record books are due to the Extension office by June 15th. Star Award applications are due on July 6th as well as, Club Scrap Books and Secretary Books. Star Award interviews TBA. We encourage everyone that is interested in applying for a Star Award, please do a record book even if you are not participating in District competition. Star Awards are: 4-H Rookie of the Year is to recognize a 4-H er for outstanding accomplishments their 1st year in 4-H, regardless of age. 4-H Bronze Star 9-10 years old as of Aug. 31st of the current 4-H year. 4-H Silver Star yrs. Old as of Aug. 31st of the current 4-H year. I Dare You Award must be at least 14 on Aug. 31st of current 4-H year. 4-H Gold Star Must be at least 15 on Aug. 31st of the current 4-H year. Club Awards: Club Scrapbook Clubs use their creativity to prepare a scrapbook depicting the involvement of their membership during the current 4- H year. One cash prize will be awarded to Club winner to use as they deem appropriate. Club Secretary Records keeping of accurate, neat club meeting records provides an opportunity for Club Secretaries to submit their records for an award and their records will also be displayed at the annual County recognition program in August. State Roundup State Roundup is for senior level 4-H members placing at the District contest on May 1st & 2nd. Intermediates can go to Invitational contests such as Ag Product ID, Archery, Photo Judging, Recipe Rally, Entomology Collec- tion, Healthy Lifestyles, Wildlife Challenge to name a few. If you are going to attend State Roundup, you will need to register online via 4-H connect by May 15th. A $50 late fee will apply after that date. Please call and let the 4-H office know that you will be attending so we can get a Roundup packet to you to help facilitate your online process, This applies to all contest, including Shooting Sports.
