4 The Capture of Gonzales & Goliad Mexican officials demand that U.S. settlers at Gonzales turn over a cannon The Gonzales Cannon Settlers refuse to hand over the cannon.
5 The Capture of Gonzales & Goliad The people of Gonzales bury the cannon in a peach orchard. They then scour the surrounding towns to seek reinforcements. Removed a ferry crossing the Guadalupe River to slow up the Mexican Army.
6 The Capture of Gonzales & Goliad Come and Take It flag, made from the wedding dress of Colony founder Green De Witt s daughter. October 2, 1835: Texians dig up the cannon and attack the Mexican force, firing scraps of metal, nails, barbed wire, bird shot at Mexican troops One Mexican soldier is killed, and no Texians are killed. Mexicans then retreat to San Antonio de Bexar. Come and Take It
