1 Newsletter February Holmfirth Harriers Triathlon Y&H Juniors Start Here Its just a few short weeks to the first of the Yorkshire and Humberside Junior Events. Holmfirth Harriers Triathlon is proud to host a Duathlon at the purpose built cycle track at the Richard Dunn Centre in Bradford on Sunday 21 st March. Highlights: News 1 Tri This 2 20 Questions 3 Events 4 Training 5 Contact 5 The event is filling up nicely but we need your support. If you have not entered a multi sport event race before now is your chance. As well as the usual triathlon age groups there is a novice race for those aged 9-16 so you too can have a go. The event starts with a run, then you get your helmet on push your bike to the track and complete your laps, dismount your bike, put back where you found it, and then run your last laps to the finish, easy! If you would like to have a go or need more information please see Rachael Mellor, Andrew Kerry or myself and we can let you have an entry form. Forms are available at Neiley or download from the website. Hope to see you then. Training Details of the new brick training (run/bike) sessions for both juniors (including novices) and seniors will be available very soon. An additional swim session will also be available for seniors and advanced juniors on a Sunday late afternoon, details to follow.

2 Newsletter February Tri This Tri - Cross Country Another successful month in cross country with the Yorkshire and the National Championships taking place. Well done to all who entered. Tri Cyclo-Cross What is..? Triathlon Swim/Bike/Run Duathlon Run/Bike/Run Aquathlon Swim/Run All the events are different distances depending on your age. No rest in between events! Tristart 8 years Tristar years Tristar years Tristar years Youths years Well done this month to the Harriers who have taken part in various Cyclo-cross events up and down the country. Again some fantastic results well done. Amira Mellor (picture) came 2 nd in the BSCA National Cyclo-Cross Championships fantastic! Tri Sports Hall Athletics Well done to the U13s from Holmfirth who got on the Kirklees team. Unfortunately due to snow the finals which were due to take place on the 21 st of Feb were postponed. Tri Aquathlon Following last years event at Wirral and not letting last years snow put them off! Lewis, Lucy & Erica (mum and dad included) went over to Merseyside for the Wirral Aquathlon on the 7 th February. With no expectations having just moved up age groups they were feeling very cool the weather did not help again, but at least it was not snowing. With just over 100 children taking part including 3 novice races it was quite a wait till `the first TS2 race for the girls, and TS3 boys followed. It was very entertaining watching Lucy and Erica synchronise swim up and down the same lane only being split at the end by 1 second. It was like cat and mouse all the way with Lucy just out of the water first, but Erica first out of transition with her trainers, gloves and hat on! (as I said it was cold). Out on the run course Lucy got level and passed Erica on the 2 nd lap, Erica took the lead again on the 3 rd lap and made quite a gap, but on the last lap Erica got a stitch and Lucy came back to overtake half way to go. Lucy crossed e line 3 rd th th (with the fastest run time) and Erica visibly in pain finished 4. Results Wirral Junior Aquathlon 7 th February 2010 TS2 (11-12years) 3 rd Lucy B yram 13:14 4 th Erica Byram 13:33 TS3 (13-14years) 2 nd Lewis Byram 16:41 Tristar 3 boys race was just as exciting, Max Robson (IRC Team Mate) was easily first out of the water (400m in 5:17) followed closely by Bryn Davies. Lewis setting a new pb over this distance (6:09) was 5 th out of the pool and with a quick transition moved up to 4 th on the run up to the track. With over half a lap to make up over the 6 lap course. He managed to move up to 3 rd place after 3 laps. Up ahead were Bryn and Max fighting it out for 1 st place, then with just over 2 laps to go Bryn pulled out injured. Max was home clear but Lewis managed to close the gap to just short of half a lap and came home 2 nd with the fastest run leg. The event was very well run, friendly and excellent facilities. Thanks to all at Mersey Tri for a warm welcome. Above Lucy & Erica sporting the new HHTri swim caps, have you got yours?

To celebrate a win. Laugh in amazement its only happened once (so far!) and I was not even there to get my prize, but Steve Rimmer collected it for me, goodies and a large trophy, wow!

Woodhall Spa Sprint Tri June 2008 The one thing guaranteed to put me off training Ice, fell last year and it totally put me off. The last race I did. 5k Race at Cowm Res, Nov 2009, set new PB. To celebrate a win. Laugh in amazement its only happened once (so far!) and I was not even there to get my prize, but Steve Rimmer collected it for me, goodies and a large trophy, wow! The night before a race. Usually pasta and chicken, plenty of fluids and try to sleep. (there s me, sounds almost as though I know what I am doing!) In my first open water race National Club Relays, 2 nd leg and got swam over by a very large man before the first buoy what a nightmare, tried to stay out of everyone s way after that, just thankfully I managed to finish the swim without drowning! An ideal day... early run (well not too early 9am), then catch up on my Grey s Anatomy, Wayne not about so I can watch it! My sporting hero is.my three children, every time they race and train they are fantastic! I wish I had their dedication. My guilt junk food. Chocolate Digestives My favourite film. Anything I can have a good laugh or cry at. My favourite drink.cup of Tea My pet hates. Don t have any. Luxury item on a desert island.my bed. If I won 10m. Build a pool at home, then the children would no doubt spend the rest. My greatest fear. Closed spaces. My greatest achievement. Being with my fantastic husband so long and having 3 wonderful children. A common misperception of me.don t know I wish people. would just be nice My favourite piece of music...anything I can sing to and turn up loud on my car stereo, especially when the kids are in they get embarrassed but do join in! (but don t let Wayne he makes up his own words!)
