THE COURSE The following text provides an overview of the route highlighting some of the key safety areas and the approximate distances they are situated on the route please make sure you read this information so that you enjoy your race and do not go wrong on the day. Please be aware there are some planned road works on Trumpington Road opposite the Botanic Gardens (approx. 3.8miles). Runners will have a clear route through however please take extra care as you pass through this section. Mile 0 1 The first 500 metres are on Victoria Avenue which is 12 metres wide, however after approximately 50 metres there is a pedestrian crossing (central island), please take care as the field will obviously still be very bunched at this stage. There will be two vehicles with timing clocks positioned at this point. After 500 metres you will be filtered AROUND the roundabout onto Maids Causeway / Newmarket Road, which will be closed in both directions for the outbound section only. You will remain on this road for approximately 650 metres. At the roundabout you will be filtered left onto Elizabeth Way and into the bus lane, please be aware that the field may bunch at this point where the course goes from a width of 10 metres down to 6 metres. Please be careful and keep the cones on your right hand side, live traffic will be flowing northbound with you on Elizabeth Way. Mile 1 2 After crossing over the bridge you will reach the first Mile marker, at this point on the outbound section you will remain on the carriageway. At 1.2 miles you will be filtered left at the roundabout onto Chesterton Road. Mile 2 3 At 2.2 miles you will make a left hand turn onto Magdalene / Bridge Street. As you cross over the bridge your first drinks station will be positioned on your right hand side at 2.3 miles. At 2.5 miles continue straight at the mini roundabout (by the Round Church) onto Sidney Street. From this point through to the end of King s Parade both sides of the road will have barriers in place separating you from spectators/general public. At 2.6 & 2.8 miles you will make 2 tight turns, onto Market Street and onto King s Parade. The second turn is on cobbles so please take extra care. Mile miles marks the exit from the City, you will head straight onto Trumpington Street, there will be cones down the middle of the road, keep them on your right hand side. For those at the back of the field this is the point you will see the leaders returning in the other direction on the opposite side of the road. Please be aware of the open drains on your left hand side. At 3.2 miles you will reach the double roundabout, where you will head through a small filter line of cones taking you on the left hand side (normal City bound carriageway) of Trumpington Road. Please take extra care at this section as vehicles will be travelling on the opposite side of the road in an unfamiliar contraflow system; they will be travelling inbound on the right hand side of the road (normal outbound carriageway). Between miles please be aware that there are a number of road junctions which lead onto the course. They will all be marshalled, however we cannot account for the behaviour of all drivers/cyclists. As highlighted in the opening section please be careful as you pass through the road works opposite the Botanic Gardens Mile 4 5 Other than the point above the only safety item to note, is at 4.9 miles where you will turn right onto Church Lane (Trumpington War Memorial). We are expecting a number of cars to be parked on the left hand side of the road. 18 SUNDAY 5 MARCH

12 THE COURSE - continued Mile 5 6 This is a fantastic part of the course, however, it is also the most residential. Despite the road being closed in both directions, please be aware that there may be a number of parked cars on the road and we cannot legislate for members of the public exiting their properties during the race. 5.1 miles will see Drinks Station 2 on your left hand side, it will be positioned at the junction of Maris Lane. Mile miles sees you making a sweeping left hand turn onto Coton Road, which again is closed in both directions. Mile 7 8 Immediately after passing the 7 mile mark you will reach the Barton Road roundabout, you will be filtered onto the right hand side of the road, heading onto Barton Road on the normal outbound carriageway, please be aware traffic will be flowing on the other carriageway into the City. Mile 8 9 The 8 mile point is Drinks Station 3, it will be positioned in the layby on your right hand side. From miles there will be a number of road junctions which lead onto the course, they are all closed but please be careful. It is likely that there may also be some cars parked on our side of road. At 8.8 you will again be filtered onto the right hand side of the road and will turn right at the roundabout leading onto The Fen Causeway. Mile 9 10 At 9.2 miles you will turn left onto Trumpington Street at the 2 small islands. Those at the front end will see the slower runners heading out onto Trumpington Road, you will be kept left by the centre line of cones. Please be aware of the open drains on your left hand side. At 9.6 miles you will turn left onto Silver Street the road is closed in both directions, however please be careful of cyclists coming into the City, as Garret Hostel Bridge is closed for the event, there will be more cyclists using Silver Street. After turning right onto Queen s Road at 9.8 miles, don t forget to look to your right and enjoy the view, including that of the iconic King s College. Mile At 10.2 miles you will turn right onto Garret Hostel Bridge, although closed please beware of cyclists approaching from the opposite direction. The bridge leads into the narrowest section of the course, where you will wind your way along Trinity Lane onto St John s Street. From this point the course will once again have barriers on both sides of the road until you reach the Round Church. At 10.7 you will turn left at the Round Church and begin to retrace the opening 2.4 miles of the course. At 10.8 you will reach the final drinks station, which will be on your left hand side, just prior to Magdalene Bridge. At the top of Magdalene Street, you will turn right onto Chesterton Road. Mile After turning right back onto Elizabeth Way bridge at 11.7 miles please take extra care, there will be traffic flowing in both directions. Just prior to the 12 mile mark you will be filtered onto the pavement for approximately 100 metres, the curb is dropped both at point of entry and exit but be careful as you filter back into the bus lane. Mile OK, so the final mile and a bit has 2 sweeping right hand turns at roundabouts before a final charge up Victoria Avenue, the finish arch will be in the same location as the start arch.
