5 PART 3 Listening Listening / Reading Listening Are You a Tough Guy? Gap Fill? Help Listen / Read the news story below and check your understanding. Write the correct word in each missing space. Are You a Tough Guy? In the middle of England is the 1: village of Perton. This village is similar to many other English villages; it has schools, churches, shops and farms. A very ordinary village then, right? 2:, because on a 2.5 square kilometre farm in Perton is the location for the 3: race in the world the Tough Guy Race. The race is held on the last weekend in 4: every year and is so dangerous and cold that there is one medical officer for every two of the 6,000 competitors. The race time is usually between 1hr 15mins to 4hrs and injuries are very common. The most frequent 5: are muscle strains, cuts, bruises, burns, broken bones and hypothermia. The race has also seen 6: deaths since it was first run in Tough Guy is so dangerous that all competitors must sign a document that says they understand they might die during the race. The reason for so many injuries is because of the incredibly difficult course. The start of the race is a 10 km run in a field, and this is followed by obstacles that make competitors climb 15 metre high 7:, swim in icy water, run through hanging electric wires and jump over very hot fires. So far, nobody has ever won the race after completing 100% of the course. What makes this race even more amazing is that each of the competitors must 8: to enter.
