2 WELCOME WELCOME FROM ACCENTURE WORLD TRIATHLON MIXED RELAY NOTTINGHAM The organising team would like to extend a warm welcome and big thank you to all those taking part in the inaugural edition of the Accenture World Triathlon Mixed Relay Nottingham. As the first Olympic Mixed Relay Qualification event, we are excited to welcome the world s best triathletes battling it out for Tokyo 2020 points as well as first timers and seasoned age groupers as they take to the course along the picturesque Victoria Embankment in the centre of Nottingham. Once again, we aim to deliver an event to be proud of with a world-class course, a smoothly organised athlete experience and the creation of an engaging atmosphere for all athletes, elite and mass participant alike, to embrace and feel part of something special. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers and officials for their support and commitment in ensuring 2018 delivers a great event experience. And of course, thank you to all our suppliers, sponsors and partners whom alongside Nottingham City Council, UK Sport, OSB Events and the ITU have supported British Triathlon to add this highly entertaining event to the World Triathlon Series schedule. WELCOME FROM BRITISH TRIATHLON Welcome to the Accenture World Triathlon Mixed Relay in Nottingham. This event represents the pinnacle of triathlon competition in the UK and provides elite triathletes with the opportunity to compete on a city-centre course in front of thousands of spectators. What makes this event special is the participation of hundreds of local athletes in a variety of races, some of whom will be taking part in their first ever triathlon. If you are watching, do give them your vocal support! And if you are competing, please accept my best wishes I hope you achieve your personal target, whatever that may be. Following a hugely successful inaugural event here in Nottingham in 2017, we are delighted to continue our support of the Mixed Relay format with 3 elite events in 2018, as athletes begin their journey to the first ever Olympic Mixed Relay in Tokyo We are equally thrilled to champion inclusion and diversity, whilst supporting the growth of participation in triathlon, through the creation of the Accenture Mixed Team Challenge. This new sprint triathlon format offers everyone the chance to take part as a mixed gender team, whatever their ability! The community has once again embraced this event, bringing a unique atmosphere to the occasion that I know our athletes thrive upon. This year s course is as interesting as it is challenging with elite stars completing a 300m swim in the Trent, before cycling 7k and running 1.5km around Victoria Embankment in front of a packed grandstand and huge Nottingham crowd. But the triathlon action won t just be confined to the elites. The afternoon includes something for enthusiasts of all ages and abilities, with the city committed to growing triathlon amongst its youth, by organising youth and junior triathlons, team challenges and relays. Nottingham will provide the perfect backdrop for these events, over what is set to be an excellent evening of family-friendly sporting action. After all, triathlon is a sport anyone can do regardless of age or gender. I would like to thank British Triathlon, the Local Organising Committee and the city of Nottingham for helping to put this occasion together. ATHLETES LOUNGE The athletes lounge is located adjacent to Transition in a large marquee space. The Recovery Area is located next to this. Toilets and changing facilities are available at these locations. Sealed bottles of water and fruit will also be provided. DOPING CONTROL Doping Control will be performed according to UK Anti-Doping rules. ABOUT NOTTINGHAM Home to some of the best shopping in the UK, an exciting cultural calendar and recognised nationally for the quality of its restaurants and bars, this city has it all. ACCREDITATION All Elite Athletes will be provided with Official Event Accreditation to facilitate access to certain venue areas. Accreditation cards are number coded and provide access to specific areas of the competition areas. All accredited persons are requested to carry their accreditation cards with them at all times and to show them on request. NOTE: Coaches and medical team need to register via their NF on the ITU online registration at least seven days prior to the event. No accreditation will be handed over if the names are not on the ITU list. Accreditation will be distributed post-briefing on Wednesday 6 June. For those wishing to access the swimming pool training sessions, accreditation will be handed over based on identification at Jurys Inn Wednesday 6 June from 08:30 09:30 or the LOC during opening hours outside of this time. 06

12 04 PRE-COMPETITION TRAINING SWIM TRAINING Pre-competition swim training is provided by the LOC within a Nottingham Sports Centre. Athletes will be able to ride the full bike loop. Athletes must report to the Athletes Lounge to register for the bike familiarisation no later than 10am. Only accredited persons will be granted access to the Athlete Lounge. SWIM FAMILIARISATION The swim course familiarisation will take place in the River Trent on Thursday 7 June at 10:45 11:30 (after the bike familiarisation). Athletes must report to the Athletes Lounge to register for the swim familiarisation. Only accredited persons will be granted access to the Athlete Lounge. During the swim course familiarisation, there will be lifeguards and swim safety in place. Please note: Swimming in the River Trent outside of the swim familiarisation at any time is prohibited due to safety. 07

13 04 PRE-COMPETITION MEDICAL SERVICES First Aid and Emergency Medical Services will be available to anyone requiring medical assistance at the venue on 7 June before and during competition hours. Medical and paramedic personnel will be available throughout competition times. Several ambulances will be available to provide emergency transfer to hospital. A Medical Tent will also be provided on site at the finish area. If you require medical assistance during your stay in Nottingham, outside of competition hours, please contact the medical services below. 15 05 COMPETITION RULES The 2018 Accenture World Triathlon Mixed Relay Nottingham will follow the latest published Competition Rules from the International Triathlon Union. START The start area is the River Trent at Victoria Embankment Park. The start process will be a dive start from a pontoon. The Race Referee with the assistance of the ITU Technical Officials, will start the race. SWIM COURSE The swim will take place in the River Trent and athletes will complete one anti-clockwise lap of 300m. Swim exit will be via a ramp adjacent to the start. A decision on wetsuit requirements will be posted in the athletes lounge 1 hour prior to race start, by a technical official. During June, the water temperature of the River Trent is expected to be cool. TRANSITION The Transition Zone is located 20m from the swim exit. 10

16 05 COMPETITION BIKE COURSE A flat profile with no noteworthy climbs. The course consists of two laps covering 7 km in total. The route includes three tight 180 degree turns per lap. WHEEL STATIONS Neutral wheel station will be located on the bike course immediately after exiting transition area. Team wheel station will follow directly after, Wheels can be dropped here 90 minutes prior to competition. RUN COURSE Consist of one 1.5km lap. Runners will run over Trent Bridge, past Nottingham County Hall before crossing back over the Suspension Bridge and follow the Victoria Embankment back into the changeover area. AID STATIONS & LITTERING ZONES An aid station will be located 250m after transition, providing sealed bottled water. A littering zone will be attached to this aid station. PENALTIES The penalty box will be located approximately 50m before returning to the changeover area / finish line. CHANGEOVER ZONE The Changeover Zone is located prior to the start of the finish chute. COACHES ZONE The Coaches Zone is located adjacent to the athletes waiting area looking onto the bike course. WEATHER CONDITIONS Nottingham weather can be cool in June. Average temperatures are 17ºC. Rain is possible in the UK, so it s best to prepare for all eventualities! For weather forecasts go to 11

18 06 POST-COMPETITION RESULTS Results will be uploaded live at the ITU s official website: All the Results information will be distributed to the Team Leaders at the LOC Information Office. PROTESTS & APPEALS Standard procedures will be followed according to the ITU Competition Rules. MEDAL CEREMONIES This will take place in at Victoria Embankment immediately after the last finisher of their race.
