The swimming will take place off Quay 6 and the finish area is at the Lookout Venue.

4 ATHLETES GUIDE ITU WORLD TRAITHLON SERIES ELITE ATHLETES LOUNGE Facilities including the Athletes Lounge Area and toilets are provided for the athletes at the start (Jetty 2) and finish area (The Lookout Venue). Sealed bottles of water, fruit and energy bars will be offered to the athletes before and after the race in the athletes lounge area. OPENING TIMES: Friday 25 April from 10am 11am Saturday 26 April from 2pm - 6pm Sunday 27 April from 2pm 6pm DOPING CONTROL Doping Control will be performed according to the ITU/WADA rules. They will be located at the Finish area next to the medical and recovery areas. MEDICAL SERVICES

5 ATHLETES GUIDE ITU WORLD TRAITHLON SERIES First Aid and Emergency Medical Services will be available at the Lookout venue on April 25, April 26 and April 27 - before and during the training sessions and competition schedule. Medical and paramedical personnel will be available throughout competition times. Several ambulances will be available to provide emergency transfer to hospital. A medical tent will be provided on site at the finish area. Possible medical services at the venue are free of charge. Treatment in clinics and practices is to be paid by the participants. Athletes / teams should ensure that they have appropriate medical insurance. BIKE MECHANIC SERVICE Our bike partner Olympic Cycles will offer bike mechanic support and will be available from April 25 till April 27 at the Finish Area that will be located at the Lookout Venue in case of emergency. Some of the gyms are a short distance from the V&A Waterfront, but you may also want to get there via Public Transportation. Athletes train in the swimming pool at their own risk. Please note: There are no pre-reservations available. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION With the exception of the routes to and from the airport, you ll need a myconnect card to travel aboard the MyCiTi bus. These cost a once-off fee of R25 and are available from appointed kiosks and participating retailers (for more info visit the MyCiTi website or call +27 (0) ); after purchasing, it s simply necessary to begin loading money onto the card to travel (fares are calculated on a distance-travelled basis). Children under four years of age can ride the MyCiTi for free. BIKE TRAINING The roads are well used by local cyclists and a suggested route would to cycle in and around Green Point, where one can create a loop and enjoy the picturesque views. Please refer to the Green Point map under the Run Training section for routes. The route is not closed to traffic, so you will be cycling at your own risk. RUN TRAINING A suggested run for training would be to use the promenade or Green Point sport fields.

11 ATHLETES GUIDE ITU WORLD TRAITHLON SERIES COMPETITION INFORMATION COURSE FAMILIARIZATION BIKE / RUN You will be able to familiarize yourself with the bike course on Friday, April 25 at 09h00 till 10h00. Athletes to gather at the swim course and T1 start area in the V&A Waterfront. You will be escorted by police for two laps on the bike course. Please note, that the official race courses are otherwise not open for training before the races. The race courses are in general NOT suitable for training. SWIM You will be able to familiarize yourself with the swimming course on Friday, April 25 from 10h00 till 11h00. The location will be the same as the start of the race, Quay 6 in the V&A Waterfront. Please note: It is forbidden to swim outside the test swimming zone at any time because of safety reasons and shipping traffic.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE FOP START The start area is at Quay 6 in the V&A Waterfront. Athletes will start from a pontoon (0,6m high) and stand in a starting position approximately 70cm wide. The Race Referee with the assistance of ITU Technical Officials, who are assigned to the start, will start each the Swim Course. The athletes are required to leave their last minute gear at the swim start inside a dedicated box and the LOC will carry those bags back to the Athletes Lounge at the Lookout.

13 ATHLETES GUIDE ITU WORLD TRAITHLON SERIES SWIM COURSE There are two clockwise laps to swim. The first turn buoy is at the 280 metre mark; second turn buoy in 150 metres; third turn buoy in 110 metres and back to the pontoon is 210 metres. Exit is on a floating cubes situated to the left of the pontoons with a run along the pontoons to re-enter for the second lap. On completion of second lap when exiting the water, it is required to run the full length of the pontoon to the gangway leading to the transition area T1. There the change takes place from Swim to Cycle. The water temperature in the Waterfront harbour at the end of April can be expected to be roughly C.

14 ATHLETES GUIDE ITU WORLD TRAITHLON SERIES BIKE COURSE Bike course is generally a flat course, with a profile where some parts of the route experience a slight incline. There are eight laps of 4.87 km to ride. The route is technically demanding, due to many changes of direction and tight turns. Road surface has good tarmac, with approximately 1km of paved road per lap. Athletes who are lapped are taken out of the race. The first runner, last biker -scenario is applicable for this event. In this case the biker will be taken off the course. WHEEL STATIONS There are two wheel stations on the Cycle course, with the first being as you exit T2 / Finish area at the Lookout. This wheel station will be your own station with your own brought wheels. The second is midway on the course which is a neutral wheel station with provided wheels. PENALTY BOX The penalty box is situated about 20 metres before the entrance to the T2 / Finish area at the Lookout. RUN COURSE The course is flat with a surface of tarmac and pavers. There are four laps of 2.5km to run.

ACCREDITATION The LOC will provide all athletes, coaches, technical officials, journalists, etc. with an official accreditation card according to the ITU Event Operational and Technical Requirements. Accreditation cards for athletes and coaches will be issued during the official registration on April 24 after the Race Briefing at the The Cape Sun Hotel: Strand Street 3 rd Floor, VOC Room Thursday 24 th April 18h00 Tel: Only accredited persons will be allowed to access certain venue areas. Accreditation cards are number-coded and provide access to specific areas of the competition areas. All accredited persons are requested to carry their accreditation cards with them at all times and to show them upon request. If accreditations are not picked up at the briefing it wil be delivered at the LOC office at the Lookout.
