3 President s Message We would like to welcome back current members and extend a warm welcome to new members to the 2018/2019 athletic season. Summer program: 30 th September 2018 to 17 th March 2019 Winter program: May to July 2019 Our centre accepts children in the Under 6 to Under 17 age groups, and Tiny Tots aged 3 and 4 years. Our Mission is to help children of all abilities to develop by promoting positive attitudes and healthy lifestyle through family and community involvement in athletic activities. Centre Venue Home Meetings are held at the Paradise Primary School, Silkes Road, Paradise, throughout the Summer season. Extreme Weather Policy Campbelltown Meetings: If the forecast temperature is 36 degrees or higher we will operate a modified (reduced) programme or all events will be cancelled. Notification will be sent out via and be on the Team App (Campbelltown Little Aths). State and SALAA Meetings: For association events conducted at Athletics SA Stadium, eg Relay Championships, Personal Best Day, Multi-Event Championships, State Individual Championships, if the forecast maximum is 36 degrees or above, SA Little Athletics will advise. Medical Conditions & First Aid Parents are responsible for administering their child s medication. Parental Involvement Parents are responsible for the administration of the Centre and for creating and developing a relaxed atmosphere in which children can participate. Children are encouraged to attend meetings regularly which will assist in improving their own personal performances. At least one parent/guardian is expected to be in attendance at meetings at all times and is required to assist with setting up (on a weekly roster) and putting away of equipment and helping with simple tasks in organising events like raking the long jump pit, and replacing the high jump bar, etc. It is not necessary to know a lot about athletics to help and the Committee members are happy to advise and show what to do. The Centre is reliant on this assistance to ensure appropriate support to the children and its continuing viability. Chaperones are required for each age group to record results and provide guidance to children. Parents/guardians are also required to assist SA Little Athletics Association events at which their children are participating and will be on a roster system. 4 Centre Uniform Requirements All athletes registered with the Centre must wear our Centre uniform which comprises of a Club polo shirt and plain black running or bike shorts (no logos) and Club hat. Polo shirts and hats can be purchased through the Club. Also there will be a Badge that needs to be attached on the front of the shirt (top right). The age group badge is attached on the front of the shirt (top left) and the registration number is attached to the front of the shirt in the middle. Children must wear shoes at all times and spiked shoes are permitted for the Under 12 to Under 17 age groups, in High Jump, Triple Jump, Long Jump and laned track events only, provided that the spikes are put on at the start and removed at the finish of the event. Sunsmart Policy Athletes must wear their Club hat in between competing in events. They are also encouraged to apply a broad spectrum sunscreen SPF30+, drink plenty of water before, during and after their events, and to seek shade whenever possible. Smoking Policy Under SA Little Athletics Association Policy, smoking is strictly forbidden on the school premises. Officials & Coaching courses A number of courses are organised by SALAA throughout the season. Parents are encouraged to attend these courses please discuss this with a Committee member. Safety with Equipment Adults assigned to supervise field events are responsible for taking charge of equipment and being in attendance until completion of programmed events. all equipment is only to be used under supervision unless retrieving equipment, all are to stay out of throwing areas, eg, javelin, discus & shot put ensure track is clear before walking across no children are to enter the equipment shed unless supervised by an adult only one athlete has throwing implement at any one time all athletes stand well behind one about to throw athletes must not run over hurdles in wrong direction shots, discus and javelins must be carried back, not thrown younger siblings not competing, to be supervised during competition. 5 How to help at Little Athletics Weekly competition for the home event program requires equipment to be set up prior to 9:00am. Equipment required to be set up will vary depending on the program, a committee member will provide guidance and access to the storage shed at 8:40am.
