1 Athletics Rules & Regulations As at 07/08/2013 Competition will be conducted according to IAAF Rules other than where modified by World Masters Athletics (WMA) and/or Australian Masters Athletics (AMA) Rules. Entry signifies agreement with these rules. The Drugs Policy advocated by WMA and IAAF will apply to these Games. Copies of the current Rules and Regulations can be found under the Athletics component of the Games website. Only officials and Field Event competitors are allowed on the infield. Competitors and officials must move around the outside of the track when proceeding from one side of the ground to the other. The Competition and Race Directors have the authority to halt, delay, defer, change or cancel events if affected by adverse weather conditions. Proof of Age Photo identification is required as part of the check-in process at the Games Accreditation Centre. Proof of age as stated on your entry form, must be shown to receive your Games Registration Kit Bag and Accreditation Pass. You may be required to produce photo identification as proof of age by sport officials at any time during the event. For all athletic events your age group is determined by your age on 5 October Both men and women competitor age groups commence at 30 years and proceed in five-year increments. For example: 30-34, etc.

3 Weight Pentathlon 30+ and 30+ Hammer, Shot, Discus, Javelin, Weight Personal Equipment Personal throwing equipment must be submitted to the Technical Officer for compliance with the Rules and Specifications of WMA, AMA and the IAAF, at least one hour prior to the event. Personal throwing equipment must be available to all competitors for general use during the event. Pole vaulters will be provided a limited range of poles for their event. They should endeavour to provide their own. Heats and Finals Where there are insufficient entrants to run heats, the event will be run as a final at the scheduled final time. Finals will be drawn according to the following: If 2 heats are held the first 3 placegetters and next 2 fastest times will qualify for the final. If 3 heats are held the first 2 placegetters and next 2 fastest times will qualify for the final. Starting Starting blocks will be provided. Personal blocks are not allowed. Crouch starts are not compulsory. One break per athlete is allowed without disqualification. Directions at the start for events 400m and below shall be "On your marks; Set; Gun (or approved substitute). For events 800m and over the starting instruction shall be "On your marks; Gun (or approved substitute). Spike Lengths Maximum 6mm spike for Track events. Maximum 9mm spike for Javelin and Jumps. Lap Scorers All competitors in events 2000m and longer are required to nominate their own lap scorer to the Lap Score Organiser. Lap scorers must report 20 minutes prior to the scheduled start time for the event. Please inform the Lap Score Organiser 30 minutes before the start if you are unable to provide a lap scorer. All competitors must hurdle with a continuous motion thus ensuring that both feet are off the ground for at least an instant. Failure to do this will result in disqualification.

4 Field Events Competitors will compete in the order shown on the start sheet except where the Referee rules otherwise. In throwing events, Long and Triple Jumps, the best eight competitors after 3 rounds will be eligible for a further 3 trials. When there are less than 8 competitors in an age group all will be eligible for 6 trials. No competitor will be allowed to enter the competition after the commencement of the fourth round. Competitors leaving an event in progress may only continue in the event at the current round upon return. Competitors joining the Pole Vault and High Jump after the start of competition must commence at the height at time of entry. In the Hammer and Weight Throw, competitors must release the implement using both hands. All warm-up trials for Field Events must be completed before the scheduled start time of the event and as directed by competition officials. High Jump and Pole Vault Both feet must be off the ground during the attempt. Pentathlon and Weight Pentathlon Competitors will be allowed 3 trials only in throws and the Long Jump. Competitors are allowed 2 breaks before disqualification in sprints. Failure to start in any 1 event means that the competitor has abandoned the competition. Race Walks All Race Walk events will be judged according to IAAF Rule 230. Race walking is a progression of steps so taken that the walker makes contact with the ground, so that no visible [to the human eye] loss of contact occurs. The advancing leg shall be straightened [i.e. not bent at the knee] from the moment of first contact with the ground until the vertical upright position. Results Daily results will be available under the Athletics component of the Games website: Results will be available in The Advertiser newspaper throughout the event. Make sure you pick up a copy of The Advertiser to keep up to date with all the latest Games information. Results will also be posted at the City of Adelaide Games Village. For Track and Field, results will be posted at the rear of the seating in the Stadium on the large glass window as soon as possible after the completion of the event. Non-Stadia results will be available under the Athletics component of the Games website:

5 Records If you are registered with an Australian Masters Athletic Club or a club affiliated with a Member Association of Athletics Australia you are eligible to break records at these championships. If you think you will break an Australian or World record please notify the official when you report in. If you do break a record please notify the officials to ensure all information required is recorded. Results, with wind readings, and any other relevant data will need to be forwarded to the relevant bodies as soon as possible after the completion of the Championships. It is the responsibility of the athlete to ensure this occurs. For Field events and multi events, athletes will need to ensure that distances are checked against a steel tape. Appeals Process Any protest arising from the competition shall be made to the Referee no later than 30 minutes after completion of the relevant event. Any appeal against the Referee's decision shall be in writing to the Jury of Appeal and accompanied by a deposit of $50, which shall be forfeited if the appeal is considered frivolous. Any protests concerning an athlete's right to compete must be lodged with the Referee before the start of the relevant event. If the matter is not promptly resolved, the athlete in question shall be allowed to compete "under protest" pending subsequent decision.
