2 ARRANGERS Malmö athletics clubs Heleneholms IF, Malmö AI and IK Pallas will arrange the EMG athletic competition. VENUES The Athletic event at EMG will take place at the following venues: Heleneholm Arena, Malmö Stadion throwing field and Pildammsparken. Heleneholm Arena will be the main venue for EMG Athletics. Heleneholm Arena is at Ystadvägen 23 (bus 8 - stop Sevedsgården ). NB! Entry to parking area only from Eriksfältsgatan by Aura badminton hall. The arena is a fully equipped 6 lane track and field arena with newly renovated tracks (8 lanes up to 110 m). Dressing rooms will be available. The arena has 2 smaller stands for spectators. Malmö Stadion throwing field will be used for hammer throw and the first event of the Weight Pentathlon (hammer). This will be the case for all age groups. Malmö Stadion is at John Ericssons väg (in the same area as EMG Centre) (bus 3 - stop Stadion ). The throwing field is situated to the south of Malmö Stadion across Stadiongatan. Dressing rooms will be available in limited numbers. Very limited access for spectators at the throwing field. Road race walk will take place in Pildammsparken, a park across from Malmö Stadion on the opposite side of John Ericssons väg. Dressing rooms will be available in Malmö Stadion in limited numbers. ATHLETE ACCREDITATION Accreditation of athletes will take place at EMG Centre at the Stadion area every day from 7.30 am to 6.00 pm starting Thursday August 28. At accreditation the athletes will receive - Backpack with participant handbook, bib numbers, maps, offers, sponsor gifts etc. - Accreditation pass which will give the athlete free entrance to the EMG Centre with entertainment and participant service, transportation, medical service, discounts Other information concerning athletics will be found at Heleneholm Arena.

3 TRANSPORT At Weight Pentathlon the first event, hammer, will take place at Malmö Stadion throwing field. After this event the athlete will be offered transport by minibus to Heleneholm arena where the Weight Pentathlon will continue. EMG has its own bus route, which is running between EMG Centre and the different venues. Read more about this in the information that you will get at accreditation. REFRESHMENTS At Heleneholm Arena there will be possibilities to buy sausages, salads, sandwiches, drinks, etc. There is a restaurant and a café at EMG Centre. MEDICAL SERVICE During the competition at Heleneholm Arena, Malmö Stadion throwing field and at Pildammsparken there will be paramedics to handle acute cases with support from physicians. For minor injuries such as scrapes, small cuts or bruises, treatment may be carried out at the arena. Medical service will be available at EMG Centre. INFORMATION Results and information will be given mainly in Swedish and English. There will be an information desk for Athletics at Heleneholm Arena. DRESSING ROOMS There are dressing rooms at Heleneholm Arena and at Malmö Stadion. Valuables can be handed in for safeguarding in a special tent at Heleneholm Arena and at the start of the Road Race Walk.

4 TRAINING AND WARM-UP AREA Malmö Stadion can be used for training the whole period with the exception of Tuesday September 2. The indoor arena Atleticum (near EMG Centre) can also be used for training. NB. Please respect that there will be other organised training in these arenas during this period. Malmö Stadion throwing field can be used for throwing training when the field is not used for competition (all days except Saturday, August 30, Thursday, September 4 and Friday, September 5 ). The athletes will have to bring their own throwing implements and must also be responsible for safety precautions. Medical assistance will not be available at training. The grass area east of the power plant by the Heleneholm Arena can be used for warm-up before the competition at the Arena.

5 RULES OF COMPETITION - GENERAL The competition will be conducted under the rules of IAAF (the International Association of Athletics Federations) with the addition of the rules of WMA (World Masters Athletics). SAFETY JUDGES Safety judges may require an athlete to discontinue the event if the competitor - is endangering her/his own health or safety or the health or safety of others - is an obstacle to other competitors - is judged lacking the necessary skills or technique for an event - behaves in a disorderly manner. The safety judge will first issue a warning to the competitor (yellow flag). If no improvement takes place it will lead to a disqualification indicated by a red flag. The competitor shall then immediately discontinue her/his participation in the event and leave the arena Safety judges can also report to competition referees if they observe that rules are applied in an incorrect way by athletes or officials. Safety judges will wear a special vest. EVENTS Athletes will not be allowed to substitute for another competitor in any event. If you participate in events that clash in the time schedule, you should inform the event referee in the event that starts first. It might be possible to get a permission to make your jump or throw last in the round if you are coming back before the current round is finished. Do not leave the competition area without permission from event referee. BLIND AND DEAF COMPETITORS Blind and deaf competitors who require assistance will have to arrange this themselves. Blind athletes or athletes with visual impairments who require an attendant shall report this at declaration for track events and in call-room for field events. Blind athletes or athletes with visual impairments who require an attendant are not to receive any advantage in relation to other competitors. The attendant may only be positioned behind or on the outside of the competitor. A tether may be used but not to pull the competitor- At the finish line, the attendant is not allowed to finish ahead of the competitor. If the athlete needs attendant at running in separate lanes, the outer lanes will be used. Deaf athletes or athletes with hearing impairments may get assistance at the tracks to indicate that the starting gun has been fired.

6 START NUMBERS All athletes will get two identical bibs with start numbers that shall be worn on the front and on the back. Exceptions: In throwing events only one bib will be used and it will be born on the back In high jump and pole vault it is only necessary to wear one bib either on the front or on the back. Special bib numbers with chip for timing purposes will be used at the marathon race. The bib must not be folded, cut or obscured in any way (failure too observe this might lead to disqualification). HIP NUMBER Participants in track events longer than 400 m will receive hip numbers that must be worn on the right hip for photofinish purposes. The hip numbers will be distributed at start ADVERTISING All advertising on athletes clothing must be in accordance with IAAF/WMA rules. DOPING TESTING There will be a number of doping tests carried out and these will be handled in accordance with the rules of WADA. It is recognised that some masters might need medication containing substances that are prohibited. The use of some of these can be allowed, if you can show suitable medical evidence that confirms that you must use this medication for your health and there is no substitute that only contains permitted substances. The athletic federation of your home country can give you more detailed information. If you are selected for doping test you must be able to identify yourself and show necessary medical evidence if you are using medication containing prohibited substances. Participants currently banned for infringements of Drugs/Doping rules will be banned from all sports at the EMG

7 PROTEST PROCEDURES Protests will be handled according to the rules of IAAF/WMA. Protest must be lodged initially with the event referee within 30 minutes of the end of the event. If you are not satisfied with the referee s decision, the athlete may appeal to the competition jury within 30 minutes after the decision of the referee is made public. Protest concerning competition results must be made within 30 minutes of the posting of the official results. The athlete must make the appeal/protest to the jury on special appeal form, which you can get at the competition office. The appeal must be lodged at the competition office and be accompanied by a deposit of 40, which will be forfeited if the appeal is not accepted. RESULTS Results will be posted on a board at Heleneholm Arena and at EMG Centre. Results will also be presented on EMG website ( There will be a special result service at decathlon, heptathlon and weight pentathlon. RESULT LISTS It will be possible to buy a daily result list at the EMG Centre the day after the events. MEDAL PRESENTATIONS The top three finishers in all events will get gold, silver and bronze medals. Medals will also be presented if there are fewer than three competitors in an event and regardless of the level of performance. The medal presentation will take place at Heleneholm Arena for all events just after the event. RECORDS As the competition is conducted according to the WMA rules records can be recognized. For a record to be validated you must submit it with all required documentation to the responsible organisation for master athletics in your home country. If you believe that you have broken a national, European or World record, please contact the competition office to get the necessary documentation and officials signatures.

8 TRACK AND FIELD COMPETITION RULES The competitions will be conducted in accordance with IAAF competition rules with addition of the WMA rules. Examples of WMA rules that deviate from IAAF rules: - In any race (single events or combined events) individual athletes who are charged with a false start, as determined by the head starter, shall be warned. Individual athletes who are charged with their second false start in the same race, as determined by the head starter, shall be disqualified - Competitor are not required to use starting blocks or a crouch start or have both hands in contact with the track for the start of any race. - Hurdles and steeplechase barriers must be cleared in a continuous motion thus ensuring that both feet must be off the ground at least for an instant. It is not allowed to climb the steeplechase barrier. The hands or the feet may touch only the top surface of the barrier and no other part of the body may touch any part of the barriers. - Both feet must be off the ground during the vault in high jump and pole vault. - The competitor is allowed to touch the landing area before clearing the bar in high jump and pole vault but may not use the landing area to any advantage as determined by the Field Judge. - It is requested that 2 hands are used at all times when throwing the hammer and the weight. - When a field event competition includes competitors in different age groups, such groups must be considered as separate competitions for the purpose of deciding which competitors shall be allowed to advance. There may thus be more than 8 competitors allowed 3 additional trials. - When a high jump or a pole vault competition includes competitors in different age groups jumping and vaulting in the same competition pool, and there is only one competitor left in an age group, that competitor shall have the right to have the height of the bar raised in terms of applicable IAAF rule, even though other competitors in other age groups may still be jumping/vaulting. Said competitors must continue in the normal progression and may not jump at these special heights. At javelin competition the new IAAF rule (Rule 187, 17 (b)) will not be applied. The rule demands that the thrower leaves the runway 4 m back from the end points of the throwing arc.

9 IMPLEMENTS All implements except poles will be provided by the organizers. However there might be a limited supply of poles. Competitors may use their own implements provided that these implements are certified by the organizers. Throwing implements must be certified at the latest 1 hour before call room time at the competition arena (Heleneholm Arena or Malmö Stadion throwing field). The implements will be returned to the competitor after the event. Personal implements (except vaulting poles) must be available for use by any competitor during an event. Starting blocks will be provided by the organizers. The use of personal starting blocks is not allowed. Spikes must not exceed 12 mm in length in javelin and high jump and 9 mm in other track and field events. DECLARATIONS Participation in track events must be declared by signing the declaration list, which is placed on the board outside the office building at Heleneholm Arena. The declaration list must be signed at least 90 minutes before the start of the event. When the time limit expires the list will be removed and a competitor who has not signed the list will not be able to compete. Declaration is only necessary before the start of the first round. If a competitor is not able to compete for whatever reason although she/he has signed the declaration list or qualified for the next round, she/he must report this to the competition office not later than the call room time. Failure to do so might lead to disqualification from further competition at EMG.

10 CALL ROOM PROCEDURES Call room procedure will be used at all track and field events. The athletes will be required to report to call room prior to their event dressed in their competition uniform and ready to compete. You have to report to call room not later than: Event Decathlon, heptathlon, weight pentathlon Throws, high jump, long jump triple jump Pole vault Hurdles and steeplechase All other track events Time before event start 30 minutes 45 minutes 60 minutes 25 minutes 20 minutes In the call room it will be checked that - competition uniform is in accordance with IAAF rules - shoes have correct number and length of spikes - the athlete is not bringing any unauthorised material into the arena (e.g. cell phone, radio, tape-/cd-/video recorder or similar entertaining electronic devices) If a competitor will compete in 2 simultaneous events her/he shall report this in call room. When competitors have reported to call room they will not be allowed to leave the area on their own. All competitors will be marshalled to the arena unless they have a special permission to do it in a different manner. Competitors will have the opportunity to continue their warm-up when they are taken out to their event.

Semi-final Final Heats Qual P 4T P 3T P 4T 1 If there are fewer declaring athletes than expected the following procedure will take place: If only final is needed the race will be run at the scheduled time and preliminary rounds will be cancelled. Otherwise the preliminary round will always run at the scheduled time. Semi-finals might be cancelled, while final will always run at the scheduled time. Information about cancellations will be posted at the board when the declaration time has expired. The information will also be available at call-room. The assignment of lanes after preliminary round will be based on the results of the previous round according to IAAF rules. FINISH While finishing in longer races than m the participants will be requested to cross the finish line at the outer lanes (will be marked). In track events longer than m competitors may be restricted to the 2 outer lanes if they have not finished the race when there is only 5 minutes until next start.

13 RELAY There will be arranged relay competition (4 x 100 m and/or 4 x 400 m for men and women) the last day of competition (Saturday, September 6) if there is enough interest. Relay teams must be entered using the official entry form available at competition office. The entry form must be submitted at the competition office latest Friday, August 5, 4.00 pm. The fee will be 5 Euro per team and event. Start lists and time schedule will be posted at the board Friday, August 5, 6.00 pm. The age of the youngest member of the relay team will determine to which age group the team will belong. The team members do not have come from the same nation. Athletes wishing to participate in relay competition can express their interest on the board at Heleneholm Arena. 16 COMBINED EVENTS DECATHLON AND HEPTATHLON The order of events will be the same as for seniors. Hurdle rules and implement specifications are the same as defined above. Each competitor has three attempts in throws and long jump. Starting heights in high jump and pole vault will be the same as defined above. The competitor can request to start one height lower than the official starting height. In combined events the increments will be 3 cm in high jump and 5 cm in pole vault for all age groups. The points are calculated according to the current WMA point system. It is required that the competitor makes at least one serious attempt at each event to be able to continue in the competition and to be included in the final classification. WEIGHT PENTATHLON The order of events in weight pentathlon: Hammer-Shot put-discus-javelin-weight The rules for hammer throwing will also be applied for weight throwing. Each competitor has three attempts per event. The resulting points are calculated according to the current WMA point system. It is required that the competitor makes at least one serious attempt at each event to be able to continue in the competition and to be included in the final classification.

17 ROAD RACE WALK The Road Race Walk will take place at Baltiska vägen in Pildammsparken (close to Malmö Stadion) with the start close to the crossing with John Ericssons väg. The course is m on paved road (8 laps for women and 16 laps for men). The length of the course is certified. There will be one refreshment station at the course. Personal drinks must be delivered at least 1 hour before start. The bottles must have the participant s start number and name. There will be a special table for personal drinks at the drink station. All walking judges are certified.

18 MARATHON Marathon runners will do 4 laps (half marathon runners 2 laps) on a 10 km course in the southern part of Malmö. The start will be at the running track in Heleneholm Arena + 2 km before entering the 10 km course. Finish line is also at the running track in the arena. The total length of the marathon (and half marathon) course is certified. The course runs along paved bicycle paths without traffic crossings. See map next page. There will be 2 refreshment stations along the course, which means that drinks are available each 5 km. Personal drinks must be delivered at least 1 hour before start. The bottles must have the participant s start number and name and at which refreshment station the bottle should be placed. There will be a special table for personal drinks at each drink station. A special start number bib will be used. The bib contains a chip, which is going to be used for electronic timing. Runners who are not using this bib will not get any result.
