Richmond River Sailing & Rowing Club NEWSLETTER 27 Oct 2015 From the (interim) Editor and Web-Master If anyone takes some good photos on a Sunday, especially on the beach could you please them to me markpierce2481@yahoo.com.au by Mon evening, so I can include them in the Newsletter Also, any news, especially Idle Gossip, please send to me by Mon. Evening Cheers, Mark Congratulations Maurice and Ollie they CLEANED UP at Harwood Single-handed Regatta last Weekend!! They came 1 st and 3 rd in the juniors, in their Lasers (sorry guys, I forget who was 1 st ), with a Landenberger between them. Here they are, at Harwood, with VJ Lethal
WINDY WEDNESDAY It blew 30 knots from the South last Wednesday. Congratulations to all the members who store their boats in the yard I don t think that any boats blew over. So all must have been well secured down KITCHEN HOORAY, the new kitchen is operational, and looks great Thanks to all who went on Saturday to the Working Bee (Apols from the Editor I forgot take pics!)
THANKS New member Bree kindly volunteered to fill Brendon s shoes, while he was away today. Thanks very much, Bree, for organising the junior and transitional boats and trainees. Rescue Roland volunteered his time today, as always, despite dealing with some serious family health matters thanks heaps Roland Actually, this great bic pic was taken by Roland 2 weeks ago Ed
SAILING LAST SUNDAY 25th The predicted 8-12 knot NE breeze freshened to a gusty knots, which kept us all busy. Most made it around the course; a few withdrew; quite a few capsized; one boat was christened on the dreaded rock-wall (it was red Ed ;-)) Seventeen boats raced 8 Cats, 4 Gennakers, 3 TS s and 2 Monos. The Singlehander Regatta at Harwood attracted quite a few of our regular racers. SAIL RACE REPORTS RRSRC Club Racing Sunday 25 Oct Trailerables Report Sunday 25/10/15 from Colin Hinwood
Only 3 boats all 550 s shared a knot Nor Easter on the course up to the Coastguard Tower, & a triangle past the Club. Great sailing conditions, & with some away regattas drawing our boats away, the course was sparsely populated. As the tide turned to run in, Missingham pushed up some peaky swells at the Top Mark, meaning a bear away set saw the boat picked up like a surf boat & scooting even before the kite hit the top. Had to then get the boat powered up across the wave to gybe the hell outa Dodge to miss the sand point where the waves were breaking. Great course, max fun. Incy knows every little trick on this course, & put in some good upwinds, & sneaky 2 sail downwinds, but failed to allow for a wave tugging the Top Mark towards him, & parked for while to untangle. ex created a new technique, involving a whisker pole attached to the end of the jib track, to goosewing a Screecher, & so match Incy by sailing square to avoid the current. Plitty Slick!! All 3 boats pretty well stayed together, with Gunter in the Tower hooting at about an hour 20, so a nice sail. CAT REPORT (from Phill)
What did I say about all the cats being able to be on the line for the start. Well last Sunday we were rubbish...again. More excuses of course as my watch battery went flat just as the first flag went up so I decided to follow Geoff Benson. And Geoff, who is usually a good starter got tangled on the wrong side of a larger cat (2 foot extra I believe) and was doing his 360 when the flag dropped. Ned was seen purposefully hanging around the line early on but by the time to go he was 150 metres upstream staying out of trouble. That left Will and Brandon in the two As a free line to pursue at will. No practice for the A class world's where there are 150 cats two deep on the line. Oh well I could always talk about the beautiful weather we are having when the 7 knot forecast doubled into something more exciting. The course produced an excellent work to the north wall and a few wave assist rounding. Only complaint was that the reach from the bottom bouy to Mobbs bay bouy was too short. Geoff managed to miss out on it and only found out when he passed John, who obligingly told him to go back. Not a good day for our Tweed 4.5 friend. John on the other hand is getting faster every week, so won the day on handicap. Maybe something to do with his lousy first race which gave him a good starting handicap. Mr and Mrs consistancy Chris and Nola lead the series after four races with a 3rd and two 4ths and now a second. Norm took up Roys offer and crewed on the F16 but was not converted. Way too much work with the spinicar in the fresh conditions! "Always in control" Roy said but it looked pretty exciting from where I sat. Regards Phill

MOWING/YARD CLEAN-UP Phil, Rowing John, Will & Mark gave the yard a good work-over on Wednesday 14 Oct. Moved ALL the boats, and mowed behind them. Mowed everywhere, including nature strip. Next Mowing Day Wed 11 Nov, am..all welcome... If anyone can t make it on Wednesday mornings, but feels an uncontrollable urge to zap those untidy weeds, please do grab the club mower and whipper-snipper, and go for it. We regular mowers won t be upset ;-) The newly-levelled patch of ground in front of the club has been re-sown with grass-seed by Rear Commodore Chris, and Phil. Thanks Guys. With the current warm, dry weather, the area needs to be kept moist. If you re down at the club, and it looks dry out there, please grab the hose and give it a sprinkle and please try not to walk on it. 25 Oct update: Rear Commodore Chris has put more seed down, as some of it didn t make it so please keep sprinkling it, and NOT walking, driving etc etc on it thanks
MEMBERSHIP FORMS Membership forms now on website please complete, and return to letter-box in club asap. Please transfer payment to club bank don t bring cash or cheques to club. Unpaid Memberships, and Boat Storage fees are now overdue. ******************************************* IDLE GOSSIP *Is there another older Tasar, with original Dacron sails, joining the club? Is this the start of a Tasar Fleet? Danielle s Tasar is for sale (see Marketplace section, below). Snap it up now, and be in the vanguard of the Great Tasar Revival!! (Note: Despite being an older boat, with original sails, Danielle s boat has consistently been up there with the most modern, fastest NS14s, in our club racing Ed) A bit of Tasar action * Rumour has it that another Castle 650, is coming to the club. That would make 3 Castle 650 s, and 2 Castle 550 s *Are there more A-Class Cats on the way to the club? And is there room in the yard to store them? Storage pressures are building. If you have a boat in the yard with unpaid fees, keep a close eye on the car-park next to the club. Rumour has it that your boat could find a new home there
