3 Ka Wai Ola: Bringing Back the Lo i In ancient times, the ahupua a of Wai anae Kai was the poi bowl of the Leeward Coast.
4 Ka Wai Ola: Bringing Back the Lo i In ancient times, the ahupua a of Wai anae Kai was the poi bowl of the Leeward Coast. Water diversions for sugar left the valley without its natural streams, overrun by koa haole trees and invasive grass.

Water diversions for sugar left the valley without its natural streams, overrun by koa haole trees and invasive grass. In the late 1970s a group of community members began working to bring water back to the Wai anae Valley.

9 Ka Wai Ola: Bringing Back the Ko ā In ancient times, healthy watersheds meant healthy oceans, including sophisticated fishpond systems that provided sustainable food supply. Reef management meant taking only what was needed, ensuring an abundance of fish for today and tomorrow.
