JUDGING CATEGORIES Line Choice: Each competitor chooses his/her line or route down the course. High scores are given for choosing difficult routes. Difficulty is determined by steepness, exposure, air, snow and course conditions. Control: Competitors must remain in control at all times. Any loss of control will result in a lower score. Skillful recoveries will reduce penalties. Fluidity: Constant direction towards a goal. This includes continuity, pace, and smooth transitions between sections of the course. Falling or stopping can have a negative impact in this category Technique: Competitors are judged on style and turn quality relating to big mountain freeriding. Style & Energy: This encompasses the pace, energy and creativity with which a competitor attacks or descends his/her chosen line or route. Style focuses on freestyle execution of maneuvers. JUDGING FORMAT 1. Line choice score will be established by the head judge and concurred by the rest of the judging panel. Line choice is not relative to how it is ridden. Line Choice is the difficulty of the terrain. All other scores are directly related to Line Choice score. 2. Scores in the other categories control, fluidity, technique, and style & energy may only exceed the line score by 3 points. 3. Falling and unsuccessfully landing jumps, cliff drops, or airs of any kind will have a significant negative impact on the judging categories control, fluidity and technique.

4 4. Tricks, and freestyle maneuvers are awarded in style & energy, technique, fluidity and control categories. Juniors may only go 3 above line score in this category. 5. Control is the second category judged. If a competitor loses control in a no fall zone, determined by the head judge, scores in the remaining categories will not exceed the Control points by 2 points. 6. No fall zones are not allowed in junior events. If an area has enough consequence to be considered a no fall zone it should be closed to juniors. FORMAT 7. Falling and unsuccessfully landing jumps, cliff drop or airs of any kind will have a significant negative impact on all judging categories. 8. Athletes can be scored plus 3 of their line score in control, fluidity, technique, and style/energy. 9. No Fall Zones. Control is a factor within the criteria. If a competitor loses control in a No Fall Zone, (determined by the head judge) scores in the remaining categories will not exceed the line execution/control/fluidity/ points by 3 points. 10. Cuts. Competition organizers will make competitor cuts after every run. 11. Inverted aerials are up to the discretion of the host site/ organizer. 12. Time Limit. Each course is assigned a generous time limit by the judges after the forerunners. The time limit must be communicated to the starter and to the athletes. Competitors who do not cross the finish line in the allotted time will receive a zero score in every category. 13. Both Skis. Competitors who do not cross the finish line with both skis will receive a zero score in every category. Extraneous equipment ok. 14. A race official/scorekeeper will collect scores from judges. 15. All decisions made by the judges are final and may not be protested. 16. The Competition Director, due to weather and/or visibility may cancel a run or day. The announcement of cancellation should be performed at the completion of an entire run or before the start of a run. If the circumstance arises that it is necessary to cancel a run part way through the field, the Competition Director will be allowed to resume competition the following day. 17. If weather conditions exist so that the snow conditions vary greatly over the course of a

5 run, it will be up to the discretion of the Competition Director. TERRAIN ENHANCEMENT 18. Terrain enhancement is decided by the event host, head judge, TD/competition director. 19. If terrain enhancement is allowed, it will be announced on the first day of registration. 20. Athletes and coaches must abide by terrain enhancement guidelines set by the competition host. 21. If no announcement has been made, athletes and coaches may not alter terrain. ATHLETE RESPONSIBILITIES 22. Athlete must have proof of individual insurance at the time of registration for the duration of the competition. 23. Athlete must have safety equipment determined necessary by the host site/organizers. 24. Competitor and both skis must cross the finish line. 25. Competitors are not required to cross the finish line with their poles or any other nonessential equipment. 26. Judging continues into the finish area. Falling or entering the finish area out of control will negatively affect a competitors score. i.e. in a manner that affects spectator, crew or personal safety. 27. Competitor Bib must be worn on chest during competition and during inspections. 28. Competitors that miss their start order will be disqualified. 29. Competitors who miss their start and believe it was due to circumstances outside of their control (force major) must file a formal protest with the Competition Director. 30. Competitors must finish their run in the finish area and time will not stop until the athlete does so. 31. Athlete must attend all mandatory meetings.

6 COMPETITOR CONDUCT 32. Competitors must observe all rules and codes of conduct of the Host Site. 33. Competitors must act in a professional manner and exercise good judgment. 34. Competitors must attend mandatory meetings and other mandatory events. 35. Competitors will treat each other, promoters/organizers, sponsors, and the general public with respect and courtesy. 36. No competitive member shall violate any local, regional or federal law while participating. 37. Competitors will refrain from use of abusive language or behavior. 38. Competitors will abide by all rules and codes for any competition entered. 39. Competitors must always observe the Skier Safety Code and slow skiing areas. There will be no cutting of lift lines unless allowed by the host site. 40. Competitors agree to complete all forms and paperwork accurately. 41. Competitors will have personal insurance during all events entered. 42. Competitors will honor all contracts entered upon willingly. 43. Competitors will not slander sponsors in any way. 44. Competitors will in no way steal, deface, or destroy sponsors or organizers equipment or signage. 45. It is the responsibility of the competitor to make their start time. 46. It is the responsibility of the competitor to find out the time limit for a venue. ATHLETE GUIDELINES II REQUIRED TO COMPETE 47. Health insurance 48. Helmets 49. IFSA Membership 50. Waiver signed by legal guardian (unless 18 years in US and 19 years in Canada). Coaches may not sign waivers.

7 51. Lift tickets for each day of competition (not included in registration fee) 52. Attendance at athlete meetings is mandatory III SAFETY EQUIPMENT 53. Helmets are required 54. Event host has the right to require additional safety equipment such as back protectors, beacons, avy kits, etc 55. Athlete must have safety equipment required by the event host 56. Additional safety equipment is encouraged. Examples are: back protectors, hip pads, and mouth guards. 57. Athlete must have proof of individual insurance at check-in and have it available for the duration of the competition. COMPETITION RULES 58. Competitor and both skis must cross the finish line. Competitors who do not cross the finish line with both skis will be disqualified. The ski does not have to be on the foot of the athlete and can be carried across the finish line. Poles, goggles, helmet cams, etc. may be left behind on venue without penalty. 59. Competitors are not required to cross the finish line with their poles or any other non-essential equipment. 60. Judging continues into the finish area. 61. Falling or entering the finish area out of control will negatively affect a competitor s score. 62. Competitors will not enter the finish area in a manner that affects spectators, crew or personal safety. 63. Competitors must finish their run in the finish area and time will not stop until the athlete does so. 64. Inverted aerials are up to the discretion of the host site/organizer. 65. 8 66. Starting positions will be determined by a random sort and not reflect the number assigned. 67. If a competitor is disqualified for riding in a closed zone, the competitor will be notified within five minutes upon completion of the run. COMPETITOR RESPONSIBILITY DURING COMPETITION 68. It is the responsibility of the competitor to make their start time. 69. Athletes must understand their riding ability level. 70. Junior athletes shall consult with their coach about line choice. 71. In case of crash and/or loss of equipment, the athletes shall refrain from riding additional features that may further delay the competition. 72. Helmets are required at all times when inspecting, competing, or riding within the venue. 73. Competitor bib/sticker must be worn during inspection and competition. 74. Competitors who miss their start and believe it was due to circumstances outside of their control must refer to the starter. The starter will consult with the technical director. The technical director has the final say. An athlete may run last if there is ample time. 75. Ride in control and obey all slow signs when riding outside of the venue. X VENUE INSPECTION 76. On venue inspection is mandatory for all athletes at all events. 77. During inspection athletes must be aware of everyone else around them. 78. Slow riding, is mandatory during venue inspection. 79. the technical director and/or any judge may disqualify a competitor from the competition for riding fast or recklessly during inspection 80. Athletes may not session a line during inspection or jump/drop any features on the venue. Both infractions may result in disqualification from the event 81. In blind areas, it is advised that athletes verbally announce themselves to make others aware of their presence. 82. Athletes are to be respectful of fellow athletes, coaches, and officials during inspection.
