3 7 Steps for an Easy & Safe Commute 1 FIND A DESIGNATED BUS STOP Official stops are marked with a CAT bus stop sign, a unique five digit number, and supplemental routing information. To find a bus stop near you, check out the route maps contained in this guide. Bus stops are represented by dots and icons. Please keep in mind that drivers are only allowed to pick up and drop off at an official CAT bus stop. ARRIVE EARLY There s nothing worse than missing a bus by 30 seconds. When walking to a bus stop, give yourself a few extra minutes. A bus will only pick up passengers who are actively waiting at a bus stop. 3 HAVE YOUR FARE READY While you are waiting at your stop, take a moment to prepare your fare. If you are using a 24-Hour Pass, smart card, or ID please have it ready to scan through the farebox. Having your fare ready will help expedite the boarding process and ensure the route stays on time. BOARD THE BUS 4 When the bus arrives at your stop, give exiting passengers a chance to get off. Once clear, all boarding passengers should enter through the front door. The driver will collect fares through the use of an automated farebox. If you plan on purchasing a 24-Hour Pass, verbally let your driver know. The farebox will dispense the requested pass once you have deposited your money. 5 PICK 6 REQUEST 3 2 A SEAT Once your fare has been paid, please take a moment to find the nearest seat. If all seats are full, passengers are encouraged to move towards the back of the bus. Doing so will keep the entrance doors clear and allow additional passengers to board. If the bus fills during the trip, please give your seat to the elderly and persons with disabilities. A STOP As the bus nears your stop, let the driver know you want off by pulling one of the bell cords located above each window. When requesting a stop, please pull the cord early enough to allow for a smooth stop. Failure to do so may result in the bus skipping your stop and serving the next stop. EXIT THE BUS When possible, passengers should exit the bus through the rear doors. If you must cross the street, please wait for the bus to depart and then cross behind. Unlike school buses, transit buses do not have the authority to stop traffic. Passengers should be mindful of their surroundings before crossing. 7 Transfers When traveling on a CAT bus, your starting and ending locations may not be served by the same route. To reach your final destination, you may need to transfer to another bus. Passengers are allowed to ask drivers to hold a connecting bus. The connecting bus may only be held for two minutes past its departure time. If a passenger originally paid with a Single Ride fare, he or she will need to pay again when boarding the second bus. Transfers are allowed at the following locations: (If applicable, drivers may elect to drop passengers off at the Omni bus stop on Ridge McIntire Road to catch their route at the Omni bus stop on Water Street) Barracks Road Shopping Center Fashion Mall Jordan Hall To request a transfer, alert your driver as you board. Please keep in mind that transfers are not guaranteed. Strollers Once seated, passengers are required to fold their strollers. Folded strollers should be kept out of the aisleways and clear of the entrance and exit doors Mobility Devices Time Points When looking at the timetables contained in this guide, you ll notice that certain bus stops have assigned times. These times are called time points. If a bus arrives early, the bus must wait until the printed time to depart. All CAT buses are accessible to persons with disabilities. Let your driver know if you need help getting on and off the bus. To ensure safe travels, all mobility devices are secured through the use of a four point tie down system. ADA Paratransit Services Passengers who are not able to use fixed route service due to a disability or ailment may qualify for paratransit services. Applications can be downloaded from CAT s website or picked up from the. Paratransit service is provided for destinations within 3/4 of a mile of fixed route service. During these times, CAT may make adjustments to its routing schedule. Such changes include detours, reduction in frequency of service, and/or the temporary elimination of certain routes. Decisions to reduce service will be pushed out through CAT s mobile app, CAT s Facebook page, and to the local media. LEVEL 1 CAT routes operate as scheduled. LEVEL 2 Route 1 will detour the upper portion of PVCC and Monticello Road. Instead Route 1 will travel up Monticello Avenue when returning from PVCC. Service to the Stultz Center will be maintained. Route 3 will not serve Altavista Avenue, Belmont Park, and portions of Avon Street. Instead Route 3 will travel up Monticello Avenue. Route 4 will detour Ridge Street and Cherry Avenue between Ridge Street and Roosevelt Brown Boulevard. Instead Route 4 will travel on West Main Street. Route 6 will detour Ridge Street and Brookwood Drive. Instead Route 6 will use 5th Street. Route 10 will not serve the Social Security Office. Route 11 will detour Rio Road between Melbourne Road and John W. Warner Parkway. Instead Route 11 will travel on John W. Warner Parkway. LEVEL 3 The following routes will not operate: Route 1, Route 4, Route 6, Route 8, Route 9, Route 10, Route 11. Route 3 will only serve East Market Street, Water Street, Ridge Street, 5th Street, and 5th Street Extended. Route 5 may not serve areas north of Commonwealth Drive. Route 7 may detour Kroger on Hydraulic Road, Kmart, and Hillsdale Drive. LEVEL 4 The Free Trolley and Route 7 will operate on a limited service schedule. All other routes are suspended.
