2 What s it About? Curriculum Enrichment Week, 17th 21st July 2017 Curriculum Enrichment Week (CEW) is designed to give you the opportunity to learn outside the traditional classroom setting, to try something new or develop your skills in an activity or subject area in which you have an existing interest. In this brochure we set out the range of activities that will be on offer for you to take part in. Please complete the following steps to ensure you get your preferred options for CEW. 1) Speak to your parent / carer about what activity you would like to do. 2) Complete the attached Google Docs form which you can access below. You will be asked for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice activity. 3) If there is a cost for the activity, make payment via Parent Pay ASAP. A 10 deposit will secure your place (excluding the English, Arts or Bake Off weeks, which are 5) You may also make the full payment at this time if you wish. 4) If the activity is free, your place will be allocated from the Google Doc Form. 5) Places are limited and allocated on a first come first served basis. 6) Final payments for CEW will need to be received by Friday 24th March 2017 >>>>FOLLOW THIS LINK FOR THE GOOGLE DOC FORM Please note: Year 8 and 9 students who are already signed up to the residential trips do not need to sign up for CEW. 3 Surf s Up Week Newquay Learn to surf with the Quiksilver Surf School! All abilities welcome, from experienced surfers to those who just want to give it a go. This includes all tuition, equipment and use of the on-site facilities such as hot showers, lockers and indoor male/female changing rooms. You will have at least 2.5 hours every day with the Quiksilver Team getting gnarly! 30 Places 115 More Info: Mr Edwards or Mrs Baker

4 Learn to surf with the Ticket To Ride Surf School at the fantastic Perranporth Beach. Perranporth has fantastic waves which are great for learners all the way up to the more experienced surfer and this year Perranporth hosted the National Surf Championships! All abilities welcome, from experienced surfers to those who just want to give it a go. This includes all tuition, equipment and use of the on-site facilities. You will have at least 2 hours of surfing every day followed by beach games, picnics and ice cream! Surf s Up Week 110 Perranporth 30 Places More Info: Mr Jones

5 Arts, Crafts and Creative Week Do you love arts and crafts? Then why not join this exciting week of all things creative? You will have the chance to learn and improve a variety of art and craft skills including creating soft toys, working with mixed media canvases, printing and much, much more! This is open to all year groups and abilities and will leave you with something to take away at the end of the week Places More Info: Mrs Millington

6 Animal Week Places More Info: Mrs Stephen This is a fun and informative week based on the welfare of a variety of animals in our seas, on land and in the air. If you love animals and want some unique hands on experiences then this is the activity week for you. We will be canoeing down the River Fowey, volunteering at Duchy College, snorkelling, making bug boxes, horse riding and learning about foxes, birds and invertebrates at Feadon Farm.

7 More Info: Mr La Borde Places Science Enrichment Week is all about exploring Science in a different way to what you would in your lessons. Throughout the week, you will have the opportunity to explore the rocky shore; discover unusual species and habitats; consider aspects of marine conservation; work closely with a range of drones including their maintenance, programming and operation; plus many more Science related activities. 8 Horse Riding Week More Info: Miss Trerise Places Horse riding along tracks and aross the beach whilst taking in the wonderful scenery around Reen Manor with the chance to ride different horses. A real must for any equestrian lover.

9 Babysitting Course 45 More Info: Mrs Stevens 15 Places Year 9 Only This course provides an understanding of the skills needed when babysitting. It includes the babysitter s responsibilities to the children they care for, their responsibilities to the parent(s), accident prevention, health & fire safety, appropriate food & drink for the under 7 s and baby care. Students will receive a Basic Food Hygiene Awareness certificate.

10 30 Plymouth Argyle Week More Info: Mr Round 100 Places Plymouth Argyle coaches are set to come into school and run various drills, activities and games to develop our future footballing stars. Thursday will involve a trip to Home Park, with a tour of the stadium in the morning. In the afternoon students will have use of a top class 5-a-side facility next door to Home Park. A final World Cup tournament will see who lifts the famous cup!

11 Action and Adventure Week Places More Info: Mrs Elliott An exciting week of Action and Adventure! Day one- getting wet and wild at the Retallick Flowrider and Aqua Park. Day two - checking out your ball skills at Football Golf. Day three - take to the slopes with Snowboarding, Sno-tubing and Tobogganing. Day four exploring Camel Creek adventure park. This week culminates on day five with paddle boarding and a banana boat!

12 Wet N Wild Week Fancy trying your hand at coastal water sports? Join Wet and Wild activities at Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre. Enjoy activities such as kayaking, canoeing and coasteering around St Austell Bay and Fowey Places More Info: Mr Varley

13 Coarse fishing Week Learn to coarse fish in Cornwall. Using both a rod and reel and a pole and float, you will learn to catch coarse fish at a range of Premier Cornish Fisheries, stocked with Roach, Rudd, Bream, Perch, Tench, F1 s and lots of exceptional Carp. The day will include water safety, fish care and handling, angling methods, and catching lots of fish in a fun, friendly and safe environment with the opportunity to progress into a Local Angling Club. 14 Kernow Week Celebrate all things Kernow and enjoy some of the best historical attractions that Cornwall has to offer. Go crazy at Flambards! Explore Bodmin Jail, Restormal Castle and St Catherine s Castle. 16 Wonderful Week! Spend a day upcycling vintage clothes, have a bake off, enjoy a dance and exercise day to work off the cake from the day before. Explore the shore and take inspiration from materials around you to show off your artistic flare and glamorise items of your choice! This is the week for you! 5 action packed days that allow you to experience life in the music scene with 4 industry based workshops including Performance workshops, Song-writing workshops, Sound & Lighting workshops and a recording session!

18 CEW Bronze Duke of Edinburgh s Award Expedition Week 9 Days (15th July - 23rd July) You MUST previously have spoken with Mr DeVilliers to ensure you are accepted onto this activity. We cannot guarantee a place if you have not done so prior to registration. 22 LITTLE EDEN WEEK More Info: Mrs Spurgeon FREE 15 Places Come and join Mrs Spurgeon to make a difference to your school s green spaces by transforming an area into something beautiful. You will have seen Little Eden. Think bigger and brighter! Throughout the week you will use recycled objects to add colour, plants and flowers to the centre of your school. Green fingers and imagination are desirable, but not essential!

23 Eco-Car Building More Info: Mr Matthews Places With fossil fuels running out, we are going to have to find new ways to power our cars. Over the week you will design, build, test and then race cars that are powered by anything other than the internal combustion engine. Maybe you ll go for elastic bands to give you an immediate burst of speed. Or maybe you will choose solar power, going for the slow but steady approach. We will also build a wind tunnel so that you can design and test the bodywork of your cars, to make them as aerodynamic and fast as possible. The week will finish off with a number of races, ranging from an Endurance Race (Who can go the furthest?) through to a Drag Race (POWER!!!)

24 FREE 50 Places Army Adventure Week More Info: Mrs Yeo An action packed week with the Army. Have you got what it takes?! This action packed week is being offered by the army here at Penrice. Take part in team building challenges, obstacle courses and much, much more.

25 Published in a Week 30 Places FREE More Info: Mrs Pitt Join us for a creative writing week. You will work with a published children s author, an illustrator and an agent to produce short stories that will be published at the end of the week. Mixing days in school with trips out, this activity is perfect for any budding authors out there.

26 28 Places 300 Life and Literature More Info: Mrs Tooley London 100 non refundable deposit Year 8 and Year 9 Only A fantastic opportunity to experience the sights of London. Day 1 will be school based, preparing for the writing workshop. Students will then travel by train to the centre of the city on day 2 where they will be based for three nights. The group will take part in a writing workshop at the Guardian Newspaper, visit the London Eye and a variety of museums including the Imperial War Museum, experience a London show, travel back in time at the famous Globe Theatre and even take time out to shop or observe the culture in Covent Garden. The cost of the trip includes the train to London, tube tickets for the week, accommodation and breakfast in the heart of London, packed lunches whilst out and about and evening meals at restaurants such as Planet Hollywood and Pizza Express. 28 Making Payment for CEW 2017 Trips Using Parentpay For all payments, Penrice Academy now uses a secure service called ParentPay as we no longer accept cash and cheque payments. You will have recently received a letter with details of your secure online account, unique username and password. Making a payment is straightforward and ParentPay holds a payment history for you to view at a later date; no card details are stored in any part of the system. Once you have activated your account you can make online payments straight away. Please visit to make a CEW 2017 deposit payment. Parents who need to continue making payments by cash may do so using the PayPoint network at local convenience stores. PayPoint payments are recorded by ParentPay and can be seen by logging into your ParentPay account and viewing your payment history online. The nearest PayPoint stores to school are: Asda Texaco filling station, Southbourne Road Please notify the Finance Office if you wish to use the PayPoint facility. We can then issue a barcode letter for you to use Paypoint facilities to pay deposits for CEW 2017.
