The camera is triggered either remotely or automatically to take aerial shot and can be attached directly to the kite, but is usually secured to an adjustable rig suspended from the kite line. With this elevated view, pilots can capture landscapes, objects, architecture, and people in entirely new ways. The beginning of KAP dates back to the late 19th century. Aerial photography from kites is, in fact, one of the oldest forms of remote sensing of the Earth s surface. The KAP Foils developed by German kite enthusiast Ralf Beutnagel are reliable and very stable lifter kites for a camera rig. They have been used successfully since 2006 and have impressed many Kite Aerial Photographers by their flight characteristics. The wind range of the KAP Foil is fairly wide. HIGH-TECH FABRIC FOR OUR KITE SAILS The decisive quality features for a high-quality kite fabric are light weight, tear-resistance and a resilient coating. Ripstop-Polyester and Nylon Ripstop means fabrics that have been woven with a special technique and that are particularly tear-proof. Grid-like reinforcement threads are integrated into the thin fabric at distances of 5 to 8 millimetres. Benefits of modern Ripstop fabrics are their extremely light structure, low wetness elongation and very high tear resistance. The most important fibre that is processed into Ripstop fabric is polyamide; the fabric produced with this is called Ripstop-Nylon. Polyester fabric is also processed into Ripstop fabric. Polyester takes up only little moisture, is highly UV-resistant, maintains its shape even when wet and can be coated very well. Transparent Mylar-Laminate Mylar-laminate is a high-quality layered composite that is produced of several layers. The core layer is made up of a highly resilient fibre fabric. The special benefit of Mylar is a high resilience and extreme form retention. Processing of Mylar film also gives any sail a particularly technical and high-quality look. 044

45 FRAME OF SPACE AGE COMPOSITES The frames of all "HQ Sportkites" are constructed solely of state-of-the-art composites that are used in aviation and aerospace as well. Carbon Fibre Carbon fibres are a high-tech material that is particularly suitable for applications where a low weight is needed at a concurrent high stiffness. Carbon fibres are stiffer than steel, lighter than fibreglass and twist less easily. Kites with carbon frames therefore fly particularly precisely. Fiberglass The strength properties of fibreglass fibres correspond to those of metals, but at a much lower weight. Fibreglass fibres are also extremely flexible and break-proof. Dyneema (Spectra) lines Their extremely thin, light-weight fibres with very little stretch make Dyneema the ideal lines for stunt kites. At the same weight, Dyneema fibres are much more tension resilient than steel. The minimum elongation of the material (less than 5%) ensures maximum control of the kite, while the very small line cross-section minimises air resistance. The surface of our Dyneema lines is very smooth, so that they will not block or even "saw through" when turning in. The fibre is extremely resilient to abrasion, moisture, UV radiation and chemicals. Polyester Polyester fibres are more cost-efficient than Dyneema. For "HQ" beginners stunt kites in the entrance price ranges, refined, braided polyester lines are used. The natural elasticity of the fibres is drastically reduced by the pre-stretching of the lines. Polyester fibres also permit a small line cross-section with a reduced air resistance. The remaining extension after stretching deflects wind gusts better than Dyneema does. Twisted or braided lines? In cheap "no-name" kites, low-quality lines are often used that will twist very quickly.
