8 EDITORIAL REGULARS FROM THE CEO'S DESK By the time this is in your hands, several Australian Teams will be back in the country, having savoured intense international competition. Congratulations to all who performed to their expectations at the USA National Championships, California; World Open Water and World Championships, Shanghai; Para Pan Pacific Championships, Edmonton; World University Games, Shenzhen; and World Junior Championships, Lima. Depending on the postie the Team at the Commonwealth Youth Games, Isle of Man; will be getting ready, competing or coming home... the appropriate wishes to them too. The National Head Coach, Leigh Nugent, and the various Team Coaches will be leading all in resetting their sights for the 2012 Olympic Games, London. No doubt, many other Coaches around Australia will be also setting their charges for - first things first the Trials. Adelaide will be the place to be for hot swimming. Before wandering from the High Performance arena, special congratulations to Brant Best on his input into the success of Australia s latest World Champion the Missile. James Magnussen would want him duly recognised. And the other World Champion: the Australian Men s 4x100 Freestyle Relay Team hats off to their Coaches too. One year on and feedback has been overwhelmingly positive for ASCTA s additional, free Member services: SwimTIPS and Inside Coaching. Congratulations to editors ; respectively: Barbara Nolan and Michael Ursu. To that suite has been added another popular publication: SwimBIZ. ASCTA views enhancing Member services as critical. To that end, it is important that those Premium Members receive more than just the vote and the Licence Premium Members will now be receiving the DVD of the last WA Coaches Conference. Shortly, they will also exclusively receive a DVD of Dr Ralph Richard s collection of stroke drills. More exclusives to follow for the Premiums: DVDs of the asctaqld, asctansw, asctavic and 8 asctawa Conferences. Premium members will shortly also be receiving an ASCTA lanyard and plastic sleeve to carry their premium cards in when on pool deck so that they are more easily identifiable. This leads into a big thank you for all those at Branch level who have (Queensland and New South Wales) or will be soon (Victoria and Western Australia) contributing to highly successful State Conferences. With such commitment and expertise, ASCTA remains lean, efficient and effective. Importantly though, where Branches are small, ASCTA is now taking the lead to ensure such valuable events happen nationwide. The first annual SwimSOUTH Conference has just been conducted in Adelaide. The second annual SwimTASSIE Conference will run in Hobart in September. The Perth event in October, sees the combining of the annual Swim Australia event, SwimWEST Conference, with the WA Coaches Conference will see the inaugural SwimNT Conference. This is the result of positive partnering between ASCTA, its Branches and the respective State Swimming Association. A lot can happen in a year! Also one year on, the performance coming out of the relocated asctaoffice has been nothing short of incredible. Service across all business areas has gone up to a new level. The other core communication and dissemination of information has also risen; with regular, high quality media such as the Swimming in Australia magazine, E-Splashes, SwimTIPS, SwimBIZ and Inside Coaching. ASCTA s venture into Teacher Accreditation (Swim Australia Teacher program - SAT) continues to exceed expectations. The recently launched SAT of Learners with Disability accreditation course, with its video-laden CD-ROM, has been a great hit. Next cab off the rank will be the SAT of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse. More world leading products from ASCTA. SWIMMING IN AUSTRALIA With the SAT program nearly in place, a renewed focus is to be placed on Coach development. Already a number of discussions have taken place with key stakeholders to gauge opinions. Many more are still to be sort (members input is most welcome of course please send your thoughts to me). ASCTA, together with SAL and the various State Swimming Associations, want to ensure that we have the world s leading Coach development program operating on our shores. PS. Please note that the asctaconvention 2012 (24 April 1 May) includes Anzac Day. To incorporate this unique occasion, the usual program will be suitably modified and some Anzac themes included. Start your planning now to be at the Sofitel Gold Coast for the world s leading swimming professional development event. PPS. As I pen this piece, Swimming Australia Limited (SAL) will be holding a Forum in a few days time. Strategic Planning and Governance is the agenda. This is will be the first such event in around a decade. From the discussions should flow vision, strategy and operations to take the sport of swimming in Australia to grand new levels of excellence. Best Wishes, Ross Gage ASCTA Chief Executive Officer FINAL.indd 8 6/09/ :37:21 AM
