Explore the significance of a variety of multifaith lights and candles. Increase understanding of the Easter candle and the story behind it. Science Light and Sound - Investigating the nature of light and sound. Light travels from a source. It cannot pass through some materials and this leads to the formation of shadows. Light is also reflected from surfaces such as mirrors. We see things because light from them enters our eyes. Sounds are made when objects vibrate although the vibrations are not always visible. That pitch and loudness can be changed. The vibrations from sound sources can travel through a variety of materials including solids such as wood and liquids such as water. Technology 1) Money containers The children will continue to make their money containers using textiles. This is to be based on their design and plan form last term. They will use cutting and sewing techniques to make the container and will progress to evaluate their container according to the list of criteria they wanted to include from their plan. 2) Lighting it up This term s focus is on control technology. The children will look at how objects such as toys and torches are illuminated and will design and plan to make their own object that is illuminated via a circuit and will then use control boxes to create a sequence of instructions to make the object light up. They will then evaluate the object using the list of criteria they set up during the planning process.

Other pilgrimages, including Lourdes (Christian) and the River Ganges (Hindu). Science Changing Materials Explore the characteristics of materials and how they can be changed. Building on work from Year 4 look at solubility in terms of a reversible change and see that you can recover the solid by evaporating the liquid. Go on to investigate factors which influence how well substances dissolve. Describe rocks and soils based on characteristics such as appearance, texture and permeability. Investigate how we can separate mixtures using techniques such as sieving and filtering. Think about other reversible changes such as melting, evaporating, condensing and freezing. Explore non-reversible changes, especially burning. Technology 1) Musical Instruments The children will continue to make their musical instruments using wood, plastic and other materials practising cutting and joining skills whilst using appropriate tools. Their model instrument will relate to their original plan and design and the children will evaluate their model according to the criteria set up during the planning process. 2) Bread The children will taste different types of bread and analyse what the bread contains.
