1 Appendix D Entry Blanks 1. General. This appendix is intended to provide examples of entry blanks for various tournament formats. Use for format only. These entry blanks have not been checked against the sanction checklist. 2. The Foothills XII Open Gold Dollar Upset. Page D-3 a. $5 - $15 in $1 coins paid for any upset. b. Calculate the cost on a completed tournament before you offer this on an entry blank. 3. Atlanta Giant Round Robin a giant round robin tournament as referenced in Chapter 7. Page D-5. When printed for mailing, the entry form would be on the back of the section for the address label so cutting off and mailing the entry form would not lose important tournament information. a. The field is split in half. The highest rated players in one half and the lower rated players in the other half. The lower rated players don t get the opportunity to play the top players but the split makes for more significant matches in the preliminary rounds. b. The only criteria to win gold dollars is to upset a player whose USATT rating is higher than your own. The rules for winning are: 1. Gold dollars will be paid to winners of all upsets, regardless of player rating levels. The winners must have USATT rating. 2. Winners of each and every upset (no matter how many during the tournament) will receive gold dollars. Five gold dollars will be paid for upsetting an opponent whose rating exceeds your own by one to 149 rating points. Ten gold dollars will be paid for upsetting an opponent whose rating exceeds your own by 150 to 499 points. Fifteen gold dollars will be paid for upsetting an opponent whose rating exceeds your own by 500 points or more. 3. The gold dollars will be paid immediately upon confirmation of match sheets showing upsets. 4. In addition, the Grand Upset Winner (the player accumulating the most gold dollars by the end of tournament play) will receive an added bonus prize of twenty gold dollars. 5. Ratings used to determine the upsets will be the USATT ratings of record as of 6:00 p.m., Thursday, August 1, USATT unrated players may not advance beyond the second round robin or win gold dollars. The Zermelo computer program is used to control match seeding alignments, optimum club separation of players in roundrobins and to settle round-robin ties. The main color of playing clothes must be different from white. DIRECTIONS: Approaching Knoxville from West and South: Exit I-40 at exit 388A (James White Parkway); veer right at first Parkway exit to traffic light (Summit Hill); turn left, go approximately 1/2-mile; turn left on Martin Luther King Drive; go approximately 1/4 mile and turn left on Cruze St. Phyllis Wheatley YWCA is 1/2 block on the right. FORMAT: Round Robin for two rounds of play, followed by crossover play for first and second place and head-to-head matches for third place. All play will be best of five, except championship finals will be best of seven. First round byes will be given to maximum of 4 top seeds above 48 entrants. 1st Round: Eight preliminary groups of six will play to determine the next round of play. The top four rated players may receive automatic byes to the 2nd Round Championship round robins. 2nd Round: This round shall consist of two groups of four players for each six divisions: A, B, C, D & E. The championship division will have a maximum of two groups of six players. 3rd Round: The finals for each division shall be determined by crossover matchups between the two top finishers in each divisional group. Divisional group one 1st place finisher will play divisional group two 2nd place finisher & visa versa. The winners of these two crossover matches will play for overall 1 st and 2 nd place. The two losers of these initial crossover matches will play for 3 rd place. In matches where there is a rating difference of 800 points or more the match may not be played. The higher rated player will be awarded the win. Minor modifications to the format can be made, as needed to accommodate or facilitate play, at the discretion of the Tournament Director. Gym opens at 7:30 a.m. and all players should be checked in by 8:30 a.m. Pretournament meeting starts promptly at 8:45 a.m. Default time is start time plus five-minutes for all called matches.
