The Waves advanced to the NCAA Championships in 1981 and 1982, losing first-round decisions to Texas A&M and California, respectively. Nina Matthies took over the program in After competing as an NCAA Division I independent team for several seasons, the Waves became part of the WCC prior to the 1985 campaign. Under Matthies guidance, Pepperdine has posted a record of (.607) during her 24 seasons. Her teams have recorded plus win seasons, including a cumulative mark of (.667) since The Waves enjoyed one of their best years NICOLE SANDERSON ever in 1990, rolling to an impressive 25-6 record and defeating nationally ranked foes such as Louisiana State, San Diego State, UC Santa Barbara and USC.
